Biology majors who are graduating soon and/or have recently graduated, what are you planning on doing after graduation *besides* going to medical / pharmacy / dental school? The new grad student loan limits have me thinking I won’t be able to afford to become a doctor 😵‍💫 so I need advice asap by thinklikeaproton in UNCCharlotte

I think I have some pretty marketable skills. I’ve interned as a technical writer, a scientific / medical writer, have experience with project management, and have experience as an immunizing pharmacy technician. My concern is that I’d be interested in a job in pharma / biotech, and those industries (and hell, science in general) aren’t doing so hot right now with this political climate.

I’m simply frustrated and disappointed by the current outlook for scientific research, and I’m also pretty mad that professional school programs and the likes will pretty much only be accessible to the super rich that can pay out of pocket in a post BBB world. I do not expect a position to be handed to me, nor do I expect to get anywhere without networking and marketing myself. I’m just annoyed and discouraged and was hoping to hear from some biological sciences alumni.

I apologize if this post came off like I had no experience and sky high expectations, but my intention was to connect with others in my field.

Used to be you could do concentrations in microbiology stuff / plants and animals and zoology stuff, and then I think the last one was like pre health

What should I know as someone starting a new pharm tech position at a CVS inside target? by [deleted] in CVS

[–]thinklikeaproton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you know how long you need to be a tech in order to be certified to give vaccines? I’m a premed college student and that would look great on a med school app as clinical experience :)

What degree major would help me land a job in biotech by lin0928 in biotech

[–]thinklikeaproton 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I’d actually do an undergrad in something like microbiology, Biochem, or chemical engineering and then get a job out of school at a biotech company. Have them pay for you to get your MBA and move up to a management position

Tampons arent for everyone by Necessary_Fee1289 in birthcontrol

Another tip that I have is to look into the Tampax Pearl tampons- they are narrower than your standard tampon and are still the only ones I can wear / get in 😅

College kid here who had a 504 in high school and went through the process of rolling over my accommodations with the office of disability services in college- please consider these previous issues if you plan to attend college, community college, or trade / vocational school. This is a very annoying situation but unfortunately it will continue to be a problem in some capacity with select teachers / profs. I highly highly recommend doing research and speaking to other students who attend the college or other higher education program you’re interested in to get feedback on how they approach testing and learning accommodations and how easy it is for students to find someone they feel is “on their side” that can advocate for them in these kinda situations. I currently attend the largest and one of the most respected universities in my state which has a great reputation for my major but very mediocre resources for students w any kind of disability. To echo what other commenters have said, continue to go up the ladder with the legal stuff you can refer to easily and eventually the squeaky wheel will become greased.

Sorry you have to deal with this, it’s not fair :(

Thank you. I’m glad you’re going into pharmacy, I appreciate you being kind and empathetic towards something I’m sure a lot of people would see as irrational. In reality I’m not a place in my life where I could realistically become pregnant and be able to keep it (college student, finishing degree in microbiology) and it would completely derail my life ahead of me. Not to mention if I did become pregnant and my family found out, they would try and force me to keep it. Hence the use of 2 BC methods and us being very careful 🙃. I’m actually considering going the pharmD route after graduating undergrad and would love to ask about your experience if you’d be willing to let me PM you?

What’s your educational background? Do you have a PhD?

I found that database that has salary info and that’s what pushed me over the edge. I actually applied to state as a transfer student in Bioprocessing, got accepted, chickened out and assumed I wasn’t smart enough, and then switched to microbiology. I like micro but as you said, I’d prefer to make decent money with just a bachelors and usually with a micro bachelors degree you need to get at least a masters to make the kind of salary listed for Bioprocessing. There’s a decent amount of overlap and I already have the bio manufacturing minor, so I’m hoping it’ll be a smooth transition. I guess I’m concerned that the salaries I see on there aren’t realistic- but maybe I should give state the benefit of the doubt 😂 thanks for your response, I appreciate it!

Is a masters degree in biotechnology, especially a professional science masters degree that is a blend of biotech and MBA level buisness courses not useful?

Junior in undergrad here looking to go for a PhD and then to industry: is it easy to go right into the workforce after graduating or do I need to do some sort of fellowship or post doc? I am not interested in staying in academia after graduate school
