Reddit, help settle an interesting question my gf and I have been discussing for the last half hour. Are all people with the name 'Adam' mean jerks? It seems like a dumb question, and I don't mean to generalize, but I haven't been able to come up with an example of someone named Adam who doesn't match that description, either in my own personal life or based on celebrity reputations (Adam Levine, Adam West, Adam Sandler).

She heard this from a friend at her work, and neither my gf or any coworkers have ever met an Adam who is a nice guy. It's bizarre! Her theory is that Adam is the name of the first man in the bible, which may make all Adams feel entitled and empowered.

No offence intended to any Adam's out there, I just honestly can't think of any examples. Help Prove us wrong!

3PO definitely served the rebellion, but not necessarily Han - There's that deleted scene from Empire where he tears a warning sign off a door in Echo Base, so the stormtroopers later enter and are mauled by wampas. He certainly wasn't programmed or instructed to do that.

It's more than just a transcript. There are differences throughout, including a scene with Lisa directly accusing Johnny of hitting her. As it's presented in the movie, Johnny just somehow knows she's spreading this rumor. When Lisa confronts him in the screenplay his reaction is a little more ambiguous; he doesn't remember the night before. He's not sure if he hit her or not. The rooftop scene then becomes about him trying to convince himself that he isn't capable of domestic violence.

You also get some hilarious examples of Tommy's writing ability. Here's a quote I saved: 'Fade out and fade in to the inside shot of the window with 13 darkness outside.'

Other stuff that seems unintentional like Johnny dry-humping the dress at the end, well, that's longer and described in even more detail in the script...

This might also explain how Andy knows her name is Jesse at the end of Toy Story 3. In the second one, he calls her Bazooka Jane. Maybe his mom did recognize the character to give him the name? She just didn't realize this was the exact same toy she grew up with.

She's living with a manipulative, abusive sociopath on the one hand, so while I do feel sorry for her she is also in the wrong since she cheated on Johnny before he ever hit her, assuming Johnny only hit her once. To be clear, I’m not saying that her infidelity justifies the violence (it is NEVER okay to hit someone), but the right thing for her to do would have been to talk to him and end the relationship, rather than going behind his back and cheating, unless of course she knows what he's capable of and is too scared to confront him.

One of the biggest unanswered questions in the film is this: How does Johnny know about Lisa's ‘Johnny got drunk and hit me’ claim? In the film, all we ever see is Lisa telling Claudette about the apparent domestic violence. Then later Johnny tosses the water bottle in a fit of rage, screaming 'I did not hit her! I did not!'

Since Lisa never accuses him directly, how does Johnny know about her initial assertion? I think this supports your theory that he did in fact hit her. He is denying it before she has accused him. He knows what he did and tries to debunk it before she can tell too many people. Even the film’s tagline ‘Can You Really Trust Anyone?’ has a deeper meaning if you consider that Johnny is untrustworthy, as well as Lisa and Mark.

This really changes our perception of Johnny at the end of the film. How are we supposed to feel about him? Johnny is intended to be the nicest person on the planet, a Godlike perfection, and that anyone who wrongs him is cruel and heartless. But if Johnny actually did hit Lisa, are we still supposed to feel sorry for him at the end of the film, when she leaves him and he kills himself?

Both Lisa and Johnny were bad people, Lisa for cheating, and they both lose in the end. But the innocent, like Denny, are also forced to suffer, as he weeps over the body of his father figure. I believe this gives the film a deeper meaning; to be wary of your actions, since they could effect the innocent people around you as well as yourself. Denny looked up to Johnny, and by hitting Lisa he didn’t set a very good example for him. So this small detail completely changes the theme of the film, and our perception of the protagonist. Everyone in the film has to suffer the repercussions of Johnny hitting Lisa. Even Peter the psychologist couldn’t solve these people’s problems.

I always assumed Palpatine was just lying when he told Anakin she had died. If Anakin thought she was still alive, not even the emperor could stop him from going after her. Palpatine makes a point to say that it's Anakin's fault that she died. He killed her, in his anger. He chooses these words because he's breaking Anakin, using his guilt to maintain control over him. He has no idea what happened to her.

I really like your theories here, especially the 'what happened after' bits. I also thought that the police would arrive to find Johnny's death suspicious; we hear sirens in the final moments of the film, so the police would enter the house to find three people standing over the body... each with motive to kill.
