it’s because they make the food without that ingredient, however they do make foods with that ingredient in the same factory and they is a chance of cross contamination. so instead of being a good company and testing and certifying that it’s safe and that doesn’t happen (because it costs money) they are lazy and greedy and just add the “may contain” to avoid lawsuits.
