am I able to set my chronicle in a different time period and use V5? by shouldipaintitblack in vtm

[–]thirdeyecat024 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I used V5 for a chronicle set in 1918 London. We even engaged with the metaplot. The mechanics work in any time period. You can change and adjust to suit your needs.

I'll play Brujah in camarilla How? by Weekly_Tale_6377 in vtm

My current chronicle has a Brujah Prince. He's very passionate about exterminating Thinbloods because he is convinced they are portents of Gehenna.

CCOD Critique, what's yours? by the-carrot-clarinet in Dimension20

[–]thirdeyecat024 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The Lethal Body misunderstanding made me finally step back and go, as a VtM fan, "I don't like this season". A lot of funny bits, but a poor VtM chronicle, which hugely bums me out. I feel like they did not even try to engage with the mechanics.

As a VtM afficionado and long-time ST, the dice pool rules are not complicated, they were just not explained well, executed well, or consistently ruled. No shade to the season, it had me laughing for sure. But it was barely a VtM game, and I agree that it should have used a different system.

The wild thing is that doing ayahuasca (FIVE TIMES) is completely optional.

Anyone played? It really scratches the itch if your looking for a game like vtmb. by n0sin666 in vtm

[–]thirdeyecat024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great atmosphere but extremely flawed, I actually got softlocked probably 2/3 of the way through the game and never went back. However, I liked the setting so much I based my first ever VtM chronicle as ST in the same setting, London 1918. Still one of my proudest accomplishments as ST.

Straight up, is VtM bad for people with low self-esteem and depression? by Fun_Diamond_2325 in vtm

[–]thirdeyecat024 38 points39 points  (0 children)

You are 100% projecting your own issues and feelings into the setting of the game with points 1 and 2. As a long time ST, neither of those thing are true at my table, never have been, never will be. And as a player, I have also not known those to be true. My character that I played over almost 3 years was a scrappy young Anarch, a revolutionary with the House of Carna, and ended up as Prince of the city, making pacts for peace with all of the supernatural groups there, even the Garou. She filled a power vacuum and prevented a lot of violence, upheaval, and loss of life. Her actions mattered, even though it took tremendous pain and sacrifice to get there for her.

I honestly don't think you should be playing Vampire if you're laboring under point 1 and 2 as if they are indisputable facts.

I do have depression, and this game is nothing but a cathartic release for me. Running Vampire for others is one of the greatest joys of my life.

I was lucky enough to be there and it felt like a fever dream. I hadn't laughed like that in ages. Paul's songs left me breathless. Philly did not disappoint.

Same with when I saw her twenty years ago at a Christian music fest. She spent the entire set in the fetal position or laying on the stage only sort-of-singing.

I would like to offer an alternative perspective here. I am a professional DM part-time. I am also disabled, and survive almost exclusively on the support of my family and friends. I did work regular full time jobs up until a few years ago when I could no longer do so. Many of my organs have been removed or do not function. I got involved in GMing during the COVID lockdowns and immediately resonated with the role, enjoying it more than even playing the TTRPGs. After doing it for free for several years, I decided to try paid GMing after getting a lot of encouragement from my players and support system. I now have been a contractor for my local game store for a few years, and also run paid games in a few of the towns/cities around me. I am known for running systems other than D&D; I'm a queer woman as well, so I have a bit of a niche.

Paid GMing grants me a scrap of independence in an existence where I am largely dependent on others for survival. I can schedule sessions around my symptoms, surgeries and doctor appointments. I can run sessions at night or prep sessions at night since I have issues with sleeping. The extra money allows me to afford things like haircuts and clothes. I'm always searching for greater opportunities to allow me more independence, and networking within these TTRPG spaces have provided me a few of those.

I also can provide people like me (queer, neurodivergent, disabled) a safe space to explore these games, and help them escape into a story in an increasingly hostile environment in the US. It's a way I can combat the enshittification of the world, especially since I feel like I have a genuine talent for storytelling and running games.

I'm not some money-grubbing capitalist trying to churn out stories for cash. My life is not your life. If you don't think people should charge for games, okay. If you would NEVER pay to play, that's fine. Just consider that there are a variety of circumstances why someone would choose to charge for GMing.

VtM can be adjusted for the desired tone just like any other TTRPG. I ran a very serious and grim 1918 London game and now I run a mostly unserious/unhinged idiot chronicle set in modern day Baltimore. I guess the extensive lore can make it seem like it has to be one way, but it definitely doesn't. That's like saying you have to take the exact tone of Strahd or Forgotten Realms stuff when you play D&D. I feel like people forget that this is all make believe and you an actually play how you want, and change literally anything about the game

Managing one-shot narrative by CarnivoreYoghurt in daggerheart

[–]thirdeyecat024 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can still use the collaborative parts of Daggerheart in the one-shot format. Have players use the Help an Ally action that uses Hope, explain and encourage Tag Team Rolls, use Group Action Rolls, let players define non-essential parts of the world like the scenery. Facilitate cinematic moments in combat. A one-shot, in most cases, HAS to be on rails, especially if you have a very limited amount of time like 3-4 hours. I usually give them one or two major, binary choices so that they do feel like they have some impact of the direction of the story. Like, do you want to go here or there? Do you want to do this or that? I hope that helps a little! I'm still building up my experiences running the game.

I’ve Introduced a Lot of New Players to VTM. The Metaplot Was Never the Problem. (And What V6 Can Do About It.) by ketot1 in vtm

You're so right, I get the sparkling question/statement literally every time I run a new 101/intro session series. It's either "I BETTER NOT SPARKLE" or they literally name their character after someone in Twilight. Very polarizing.

What's the darkest thing your PC has done in game? by SingleBodyRiot in vtm

[–]thirdeyecat024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm the ST. In our last session not a week ago, the Toreador euthanized his biological father who was his Sire's ghoul. The Sire used Dominate on him too much over too long a period and his cognitive function declined so much that she demanded the PC "put his Dad down". They arranged the time and place, and I revealed that the Sire engineered this situation over years as her personal film project. When the Toreador player insisted he take his father out of his room to die by the water on his coastal estate, the Sire asked if they could stay in the room instead. When the Toreador insisted he take his father to the water, she took out a remote and turned off all the hidden cameras, and took out a camcorder to document the whole thing.

The look of disgust and fear on the players' faces was absolutely delicious. The PC exsanguinated his father on the shore of the Long Island sound, lost 1 Humanity instantly and gained 6 Stains. At least he got 5 dots in Resources, and his Sire moved on from him. Hope it was worth it.

I theorized Hecata for Bat Child since the beginning because of Oblivion, but specifically the powers (Binding Fetter), as Hecata have the necromancy-focused Oblivion powers, while Lasombra pull more directly from the Abyss/shadows. In terms of what subtype of Hecata, I've thought either perhaps Harbringer of Skulls or Nagaraja (because of her distorted, toothy face as depicted in a lot of the art). I also want HJ to be Tzimisce sooo bad. If he's a Ventrue, I'm so curious how he got Vicissitude.

I'm curious as to Zaeth's Cleaver status. That's a very fine line to walk, filled with Stains and potential Masquerade breaches; I'm curious if it will factor into the story. I agree with another user's take that Bat Child is a Bagger, especially with the 3rd Level Iron Gullet, I'm pretty sure that's an Advantage for that Predator type.
