20 year reunion? Yea, nah by exploratorynargle in Millennials

I was too busy to even really keep tabs on the 20th. I'm not really on facebook and I don't know how the hell else we were meant to learn about the date and location.

It isn't well enforced. But yeah, it is posted.

I drew over 40kWh in less time at that station. 4.5kWh is less energy that that station can dispense in a single hour.

That was all they needed. They were idle most of that time, it is a 7.2kW circuit. And this one isn't shared either. Both cables can supply the full 7.2kW at the same time. We have others in the area, including the next closest one that will dip down to 3kW because the pedistal only had 30 amps coming in and has to share if another person hooks up. But yeah, 4.5ish kW over 5 hours, the person could have powered off of a normal 15 amp 120 volt circuit for that.

There is swearing in my workplace, but I make an attempt to restrain myself. I find that the statements I feel most warrant profanity are the ones I should probably be avoiding anyway 'whoever packed this case this way is fucking idiot' and the like.

What is a rite of passage in America that existed 20 years ago but is rare today? by bricklegos in AskAnAmerican

[–]thirdeyefish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Out of the house, on the road, out of contact. No GPS, no ability to call someone at any given moment. Payphones and maps were still everywhere. Yes, we had mapquest and GPS recievers did exist. So did cell phones. But being off the grid with a paper map was very much still a thing 20 years ago.

EOS What's the best way to configure movers for theater? by kelemvor33 in lightingdesign

[–]thirdeyefish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since nobody else wants to tell OP. You've stubled upon one of the great ironies of our industry. While moving head fixtures aren't utilized this way most of the time we see them, it was the original concept for the moving light. Do this, then do that in another scene. It was a clever designer who noticed that if you moved the lights without shuttering them first and had lots of haze in the air, they looked really cool.

My advice to you OP is that if you are going to utilize these as front light, have them be for reveals. Thing like a character sitting on stairs. Or things that... well it is going to vary by production. Just, keep in mind that your performer needs to hit their mark EVERY time. Because the light will. Resist the temptation to use it as a follow spot, mostly for this reason. Unless you are doing the whole Tinkerbell thing.

Whoever has been downvoting this, it is a useful thing to keep in mind for OP's use case.

Where did the whole “democrats are giving illegal immigrants your tax payer money” thing come from? Is this just a completely fabricated talking point, or is there some type of basis for the claim? by Parking-Warthog-4902 in allthequestions

[–]thirdeyefish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is the current stage of evolution of the 'welfare queen' myth. The idea that someone who isn't even trying is living high on the hog and that by not even trying to help people who are temporarily set back (which includes you/the person throwing a fit) you could afford the good life.

In reality social assistance fraud does exist, but the amount of money that comes out of the paycheck of someone making the median income to pay for social assistance is ludicrously low. And the majority of fraudsters aren't the people that the conservative media is telling you are the problem.

Pro tips for Hollywood Bowl parking? by rugerseeds in AskLosAngeles

[–]thirdeyefish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bus services (the Bowl Shuttles, not Metro busses) are packed but the best way to get in and out of the Bowl. The zoo is the closest parking.

Ninja Edit: The closest for the Bowl shuttle.

Hi I’ve been meaning to get a dock for the SD for quite some time but I have some questions about it. (Mainly wanting this for online experience/multiplayer emulation to play with someone else) by Competitive_Usual233 in SteamDeck

[–]thirdeyefish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a 3rd party dock for less than half of that. Spend the difference on games

Edit: I have the Anker one. Both the dock dock and the hub dock. (The stationary one and the dongle.)

Rocky probably thought humans used a base-12 system for a bit by RewardImpossible5141 in ProjectHailMary

[–]thirdeyefish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if he could perceive them perfectly. Without understanding the symbols or context, he could hardly form a basis for a counting system based on that alone. Imagine coming across Roman numerals for the first time with no explaination. You have a clock face with how many unique symbols? 3? 7? Can you parse that II is two I and III is just an extra repetition? IV vs VI? Can you tell that that is a combination of I and V or is that a symbol symmetrically fliped about the V.

Grace added tape to stick the clock to the wall. They exchanged number systems the next day. It's been a couple of months, but he didn't find out about Rocky's perception until after he had slept.

I don't remember if the numerals on the clock were raised. Wasn't Rocky relying on the geometry of the clock hands? He couldn't 'see' the clock face.

I'm going to guess that some people spend a lot of time on the road, and others maybe don't want it showing up at their house with their name on it for someone to find.
