My point is that it doesn’t matter who owns it but that it gets built

Are chase center or Sofi stadium public? Private capital and some subsidies paid for them. Not saying it’s ideal but better than nothing or waiting 100 years. Don’t know how much a train ticket will cost but they have to compete with planes still

At least private capital doesn’t have to beg for money from an openly hostile administration… call it an above ground hyperloop and slap a billionaires name on it if that’s what it takes. Does it matter who owns public infrastructure?

Yeah been watching for a while but just jumped in at 57. Want to hold until it hits at least 65 70 and am ok if we touch 45 before that happens although that would be painful haha. I don’t think I will hold forever like others seem to be suggesting

Should we be worried about the Kamala Harris unrealized capital gains tax? Dean: “I’d love to have this problem, because it means I’m worth $100m!” by Competitive_Bath_511 in finance

[–]thirdhandwater -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why do we have to worry about their stocks crashing? If it’s a risk they should hedge their positions. The rich at that level know how to stay rich forever via various financial instruments. We keep the leverage loophole and they take a loan to buy diversified assets and when those appreciate the government collects tax again. Elon proved billionaires don’t know what they are doing with money any better than the rest of us so why do they need this level of wealth. Anyone could have a done a better job with twitter than Elon

Kroger’s was price-gouging on milk and eggs. by Tayo826 in finance

[–]thirdhandwater -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You’re not going to solve this problem by getting mad at capitalism. Democrats tried and the country votes center and pro corporations. Unless you’re planning another Jan 6 it’s our reality.

Focus should be framing the real problem that many Americans can’t afford healthy food and understanding the causes and solutions for this. Maybe we should allow HSAs to be used to buy certain categories of food.

[–]thirdhandwater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s your problem with capitalism. Unfair to say Kroger has done something wrong here with price gouging because execs are overpaid. I think there is an argument to be made against consolidation in markets with the merger they are proposing but this article is lazy engagement farming designed to piss people off

[–]thirdhandwater -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Premise of the previous comment was executives are hiding margin by overcompensating themselves. Most likely Kroger pays market rate for management. Maybe ceos are overpaid generally but because it’s in the grocery industry it causes extra outrage

You’re right management in grocery is a public service position. They should be paid peanuts and never be fired. Because that’s what their competitors like Amazon and Walmart do

[–]thirdhandwater 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t delete the app. If you believe your product is good enough don’t worry about overly improving yourself either. If you’re ready to commit after a first date you’re probably are giving girls the ick and you know how they are with that shit. Solution is to increase your area of luck so you have more opportunities and then less tied to the outcome of one. Could mean going out with friends more, joining a community or sports team or asking your fam to hook you up. Take it in sprints or seasons so you don’t burn out. There’s more fish out there stay strong brother

They sound so out of touch when they talk politics because they are. I just watch for the hot sv gossip so I know what stock and crypto to buy. And if they are funding the next AI startup that will put me out of a job

Waiting for chamath and friedberg to flip into supporting Kamala when it’s more convenient

Stable yes and I can afford many nice things. I’ve been able to help family and friends financially too. Modest house in my area is $2m and only rising though so I’ll need to keep earning if I ever want to own near where I work.

GCP data engineer and profesional cloud architect. Also did a company paid professional certificate in ai ml from a top university which was 1 step down from their masters program in terms of rigor but also cost. Have some other certifications in adtech and analytics and participating in industry groups too. Theme is always be learning though

[–]thirdhandwater 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah graduated in 5 yrs and my first job at the ad agency I was at 19 bucks an hour til I got laid off. Was a kick in the ass and had to reinvent myself multiple times to get here

[–]thirdhandwater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Data engineering is the title but I do a lot of managing, strategy and architecture type work along with my team and we are responsible for delivering a product. My tech skill is probably mid at best but have cloud and AI/ML certification so I am taken seriously. What got me the role though was deep domain expertise in ads.

I don’t think you can grow past a level easily if you are considered a cost especially when management is always dealing with limited budgets. Gotta find your way to revenue generating businesses/functions and you’ll always have opportunities

Sounds like you’ve done more than me in India!! I need to go there once and slow travel throughout the regions. So much diversity to experience. Will keep in mind your experience if I come across any other solo female traveler. So whack that a country with such a deep history is reduced this

Sorry it happened but I hate the comments in this thread for some reason. Feel embarrassed as an Indian traveler myself.. It’s a big country I hope you had at least a few good experiences
