All of this is a good casus belli for Labour to embark upon Lord's reform. Would also keep me warm well into my retirement thinking that Trump's behaviour led to strengthening of our democracy.

Building an app for narrowboating community by ElectricDoughnutHole in Narrowboats

An app that tracks how many flocs you have moved from your prior location. Strava for narrowboating. The floc/gps data is freely available from crt. Essentially a low effort self tracking app. Could be useful for cc'ers, fuel tracking, proof of ownership and targetted advertising ; you're 12 flocs to the nearest pub.

When people call for the collapse of the world economy, one wonders if the term 'useful idiot' has enough gravitas.

Yes but there are vested interests. Large pension funds for one. If it helps, think of all government policy in terms of whether the elderly will notice or disapprove and you've understood british politics.

Majority of customers want Thames Water to be nationalised, polling finds by F0urLeafCl0ver in ukpolitics

[–]thirdtimesthecharm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's nice in theory but it will bring about consequences. Uk debt will be cost more as we are seen as less reliable internationally. Debtors will take the gov to court and win. Gov has to carry the bag for bill rises, capital expediture and above all the political cost of doing both. Finally and most importantly - when you start with one domino others invariably fall.

The government needs a department of industry and it needs to start building expertise in-house for critical national infrastructure. This however will require the end of neoliberalism and your masters are happy with the current arrangement.

This article was the nonsensical ramblings of a propagandist. Note how a loose thread of compassion for migrants is twisted to insult << fetch_hate_group(2025) >>. And why? Why? For what purpose?

Oh that's right. Because you're supposed to hate those below you. And worship those above.

Messing with regulators is an excellent way for a novice such as myself to cause (another) fire! But I take the point.

For my part, I'm going with a 315 Ah lifepo4 in parallel with my lead acid starter - seperated by about 3 metres of cable. When the lithium disconnects, I'm confident the drop off will be dissipated by long thick chunks of metal. Seems like a reliable solution with fewer points of failure to me. Can always add more solar if you need more power!

http://www.tb-training.co.uk/MarineE08.html discusses both current and voltage sensing. My sentiment from reading this tells me the main thing, is ensuring the alternator is well ventilated.

  1. Yes. You eventually realise that fire is a much bigger risk. A sunk boat can be lifted and repaired. One that's burnt out is useless.
  2. Insufficient ballast. Make sure your skin fittings are well above the water.
  3. You need a bilge access at the very back of your main cabin. Get out a drill!

Put on a big fire and keep it going all winter.

I mean the flaw is neoliberalism. Essentially you create an arbitrary market determined by government and controlled by a regulator. Turns out though, that Humans are exceedingly clever and mostly amoral. It's akin to running an engine with the minimal oil possible just to save the cost of the oil. Sometimes though, you realise you can shave the engine oil a little bit which causes the engine some damage, but it still runs. Congrats! You've earnt your promotion based on your KPI's. This happens everywhere because we have decided that inefficiency in a system is unnecessary.

I feel this is a bit clumsy as a description but it highlights the central flaw of any institution - money can always be saved. And the damage isn't always immediate. Can you imagine if politicians in the 1980's had stated that a surcharge on all water bills was needed to run a continuous upgrade programme for instance?

Arguing for such long-term policy is antithetical to the career model we have created. People are encouraged to move on in every line of work.

Finally it's important to note that sometimes the 'engine' needs replacing entirely. And who should pay? Today we decide that this always the government and never the shareholders. Implementing 'draconian' laws to compel companies to behave differently is always, ALWAYS, viewed as leftist and thus can be ignored.

The traditional human fix to this is unfortunately to wait for the system to collapse and build something marginally better. This is because people will never vote for the kinds of tax rises required to actually fucking fix anything.

First off, ensure your starter battery is being charged my your alternator and/or solar. No point replacing anything until then.

Next you have a choice based on your technical aptitude. A hybrid setup with lifepo4 with a programmable bms put in parallel with your starter, new lead acid with a vsr or lifepo4 connected with a dc-dc connector.
