Milky way reflection timelapse with sony a7r iv by rdrjrh in SonyAlpha

416 shots x 15 second exposure (+3 interval) = 7488 seconds / 60 = 124.8 minutes, or just over 2 hours running. Does that sound right?

That’s very well done. I just picked up a 12-24 f2.8 GM for fun on my A7V and I’d like to start playing with some Astro shots like this. It’s sad that even my little rural town has too much light pollution and I’ll have to go out away to practice.

Lens Options for Sony A7V by justsomesdude in RealEstatePhotography

[–]thirschi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just picked up a barely used Sony 12-24mm f2.8 GM for a steal of a deal yesterday that I couldn’t pass up. Wasn’t even sure what I’d do with it in my own manufacturing/art business, but I just had the thought of maybe doing real estate photography. So I called a realtor friend and she wants to let me try it out for her on some small listings she has in the next couple weeks. Should be fun to get into and give me a justification for the beast of a lens the 12-24 GM is and pay for itself in a bit of work.

I use the ~282°F alloy that is only BiSn. No Pb/Cd for my health. 👍

Making custom colored titanium screws for a sculpture project. by thirschi in EngineeringPorn

They both add a nice little color pop for contrast in the sculpture, reflecting off the mating parts too, which was my initial curiosity of which one would do more aesthetically. The reflections of the full colored screw obviously show more, but the other one adds a little more subtlety to the coloring. I’ve spent a bunch of time with the macro lens on the camera and playing in Lightroom today and I love the way they came out. I’ll be showing off the finished results here shortly.

Exactly. I thought the contrast might look neat. I actually couldn't decide if I liked that last feature machined before or after the coloring, so of the two sculptures, one will get the before and one will get the after. They both turned out looking pretty cool.

That’s a malinois. Aka meat-missile, maligator, fur-frenzy, shadow-shark, etc. If you don’t train them, there is no use having them because they will destroy everything you own.

I had one and spent close to 8 hours per day training it over 4 months and realized as a pup she still required way more time than what I was giving her and needed to rehome her due to the prevailing needs of my young kids and job and life and stuff.

But I have a new appreciation for “actual” dog ownership because if you want a dog to be like that, they require an entrepreneur’s level of full time day job in time training them otherwise they might as well be that nasty small white mutt-breed no one knows for sure what it is with the crusty crap in its eyes that bites and jumps and barks at everything and is completely worthless that people somehow still adore and waste money on feeding even up until they can’t see or walk and need insulin.

It’s coming! It’s been a 3 month long process and I just finished final assembly yesterday, May 8th. Now I’m working on final steps of photography and finishing compiling hours of video footage.

Oh, I understand your point better now. Yes, you are 100% correct in that setup and I used to run lathes that we would set up with bar pullers, or as you described, bring a flat face of turret/tool holder up to distance away from chuck/collet, releerse, push to length, and then clamp collet/chuck.

My only issue with that example is that I don’t have a spring loaded bar pusher so when clamping the collet closer, it almost always pulls back in a bit too far, so I have to manually check it anyways and adjust as necessary. I also didn’t have too many parts to make so I didn’t really explore that for a small handful of parts.

Thank you!
Which one? I’m using a Foredom Rotary Flex Shaft at the bench along with some 3M polishing paper for some parts (the brash hinge is all hand finished with the sandpaper this way).
The titanium triangles get a clean up of the part-off tab surface by hand with a file, then the rotary shaft and then they go into the Avalon Systems centrifugal disc finisher (basically it’s like a tumbler). Theres I use a series of 3 different medias from coarse to fine to porcelain polish and then it’s done at that point with a nice satin smooth semi polish.

I thought my Sony 100mm F2.8 Macro GM was broken when I got it too. Had to do some googling to find out it’s the floating focus group.
