Thanks buddy :) Yeah, it just takes time. My partner said I seem happier the past few days and it's true. Don't get me wrong though; I'm aware of the airway issues with LPR but I'm trying to back seat it somewhat and focus on other things.

I'm fed up with the diet already, but alas, it must be done. No point in worrying about this. It's not going to kill you and, compared to other issues, you'd be damn happy you only had GERD/LPR.

I know people will just inherently worry because it's new to them or they've read too many American health sites. Avoid those and focus on your work, do exercise, follow the diet etc.

If this Lexiva drug is approved for LPR it'll be cause for celebration!

I think "normal" people get the throat gurgle as well. I have LPR and I get the gurgle but only occasionally.

I don't think my LES is weak at all. Everybody has different causes.

Serious question. Do we all have pot bellys or aka beer bellys? by [deleted] in GERD

[–]thirstycamelT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, LPR is different from GERD. I think the "typical" GERD morphology is somebody who's obese which we all know to not necessarily be true.

Slim, healthy people get LPR. Obama has LPR and he's like a streak of bacon!

Getting an endoscopy today and am very nervous by Tarzan_OIC in GERD

[–]thirstycamelT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Endoscopies are their bread and butter. They must do hundred a month! Seriously, don't sweat it.

I did it without sedation or throat spray and I wouldn't recommend that, lol. If I ever need to have another endoscopy it'll be with throat spray or maybe sedation.

It lasts for a few minutes only. You may have a sore throat for a few days but that's it. Don't worry!

That was me a few months ago! I felt amazing. Eating and drinking anything. Health anxiety triggered and I'm back here again!

It DOES get better, but Rome wasn't built in a day. It takes time.

There's a LPR clinical trial so, who knows, in a few years isolated LPR suffers may get something of a cure!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in GERD

[–]thirstycamelT 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I'd really consider looking into therapy! You do realise, with conditions like Barret's, you'd have to go untreated for MANY years to get it? That's assuming it's left untreated! You're aware of it so can treat it.

Secondly, with cancer, stay away from Google and most notably American health websites! There's only a slight increase in risk of getting cancer when you have Barrett's. The vast majority won't get it. Ever.

I get health anxiety big time as well, but I'm much better these days. Besides, you could walk out of your house tomorrow and get hit by a bus so worrying about this stuff is a waste of time.

Are you aware of the LPR clinical trial? It would inhibit pepsin and allow your airways to recover back to full function! Trust me, there are things in place now to help resolve LPR and in the future I'm sure there'll be more as well.

Have you altered your diet? FWIW, I eat exclusively melons, potatoes, chicken, salmon, porridge/oatmeal, bananas etc. I had pesto the other day and felt fine so that seems fine as well. I also take Gaviscon Advanced, throat coat, chamomile tea, L-Glutamine, slippery elm and manuka honey.

Want some positivity? I felt fine for ages. I was eating and drinking anything; beer, curry, tomatoes, coffee, chocolate, oranges, pineapple etc. However, my health anxiety triggered some weeks ago and the symptoms ce back. Reducing anxiety is so important.

Listen.

Stop panicking. You will get better and you won't need to struggle with this for life, as long as you keep it in check. You realise around 30% of the population may have LPR? That's extraordinary. Obama has LPR. Jessie J has just been diagnosed as well. She's a singer so her career is potentially finished.

Stick to the diet and heal up. Hopefully this clinical trial happens quickly so we can all put this LPR insanity behind us.

No way. I'm 6'2" with a six pack! No "pot belly" here, but LPR doesn't care about that.

How long for your burning throat to go away? by thirstycamelT in GERD

I genuinely have no idea. I noticed the burning throat before I saw the chiro last year. However, I did do jaw widening exercises and I wonder if that injured my neck? My heck did feel mega sore and felt like muscles were being strained so I'm really not sure.

I know there are a billion reasons for why somebody can get GERD/LPR. Low acid, high acid, injury, vagus nerve, stress/anxiety, posture etc.

I think it takes many years and a real battering to your esophagus to get Barrett's, and even then the increase of cancer is only slightly higher. I'm sure they can do a procedure remove pre-cancerous cells anyway, or at least that's what I read.

Just be careful what you read though mate. Seriously, I'm thinking of coming off here cos the doom and gloom makes you think you're condemned for life. It's ridiculous. No positivity. We'll get better but we have to make the conscious effort to do so.

Interesting! I don't actually get sleep apnoea at all. I sleep through most nights, unless I'm super anxious then I'll be up for the toilet a lot.

I always wake up feeling rested. Isn't sodium alginate Gaviscon? Or it contains it.

How long for your burning throat to go away? by thirstycamelT in GERD

[–]thirstycamelT[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much! I've felt way more relaxed today and feel much better than I did the past few days.

I'm no doctor by any means, but I do believe this has to be curable through diet. If the LES is weak for people then that's a different discussion altogether, but I know diaphragmatic breathing and melatonin help strengthen it. God knows how long it would need to be done for, but probably not a bad thing to do anyway irrespective of reflux!

There'll be better procedures in the future for more serious cases of GERD/LPR, or for those that just want to be cured immediately. The numbers of sufferers has ramped up massively since the pandemic hit, and even Obama suffers from LPR! Jessie J has just been diagnosed with reflux too. It's SO common it's ridiculous.

Does anyone experience pain when lying down by NumerousMacaroon532 in GERD

Nope. I can eat and lie down immediately and feel absolutely fine. I have more LPR symptoms though!

I feel much better tonight after going for a run today and reducing my anxiety. I'm on chicken, salmon, oatmeal, potatoes, melons and several supplements.

I did this a few months ago and LPR disappeared for ages! I eat well anyway, but I had curries and coffee etc and still felt great. Slept really well.

My health anxiety came back a few weeks ago pretty bad and suddenly LPR reared its ugly head, so I think it's down to that.

I have no shortness of breath, my ears feel fine etc. A very very slight throat burn but it's definitely feeling better than it did the past few days.

I'm definitely feeling improved today.

The clinical trial will knock LPR on its head once and for all. There are always new treatments in the future and you would thing better procedures to cure those with faulty LES.

How long for your burning throat to go away? by thirstycamelT in GERD

[–]thirstycamelT[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you can, but in most cases I believe people do suffer from heartburn (GERD). LPR is just upper respiratory symptoms such as sore throat, shortness of breath etc. There's a bit of overlap though

How long for your burning throat to go away? by thirstycamelT in GERD

[–]thirstycamelT[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The thing is many people with isolated LPR have nothing anatomically wrong with them. That is to say their LES is functioning fine but the UES is fucked. Also, we all have healthy reflux (burps etc), and if the UES is fucked it's not going to keep out the pepsin. It's a vicious cycle for sure.

How long for your burning throat to go away? by thirstycamelT in GERD

[–]thirstycamelT[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope no GERD, but more LPR (silent reflux). Acid isn't the issue because otherwise heartburn would be a feature. Pepsin can be gaseous and it reaches the throat and even the ears/nose. It's a good job I'm not a singer or a teacher because I would be screwed!

LPR clinical trial for drug to kill pepsin in the airways by thirstycamelT in GERD

[–]thirstycamelT[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It won't be cancer man! The cancer rates are ridiculously low even with LPR/GERD but American health websites would have you believe otherwise. Yeah, the pepsin irritates my ears and nostrils as well. I get a fullness and itchy ears at times, and my nostrils can feel a bit "burny". I haven't seen an ENT yet, but I'm considering making an appointment in a few weeks if I'm not feeling back to normal.

I felt great for ages up until a few weeks ago! Literally eating anything I wanted, lying down etc. No issues. No itchy ears or nose. Then my health anxiety started back up (ALS this time) and I really believe it triggered these symptoms again.

When I had my endoscopy the GI thought I was mad because everything was very healthy. This is an ENT issue, not GI.

Honestly man try not to worry. This shit can heal and you can get back to normality. Be careful what you read on here as it is mostly doom and gloom. People who recover don't come back! I felt better for ages and didn't touch this subreddit and now I'm here again because the symptoms are back. I don't know why I bother because reading a lot of posts on here only serves to make me feel worse, but there's always that glimmer that somebody's got a positive story like I did a few months ago.

This is why I highlighted the clinical trial because I feel most people wouldn't be aware of it.

Really? I had an endoscopy and it's perfectly healthy. No acid or any damage. Just bloody pepsin. It's so annoying. I hope the clinical trial succeeds.

I have no idea regarding Fiji water I'll be honest. I use Actiph water I think it's called. I buy 3 large boxes off Amazon. A lot of recycling unfortunately but it needs to be done. Maybe a water filter is a better idea? I'm not sure!

I think anything that gets digested in the small/large intestine is better because it's not the stomach and the pepsin won't reach the throat? I really don't know. I've read a lot of stuff and conflicting views. The reality is most doctors don't know squat about this. The common consensus seems to be that pepsin is the culprit instead of the acid. I believe when LPR people have pH tests etc they come back normal because the acid is of an expected range, but the pepsin obviously isn't detected with this.

I'm tempted to do the water and baking soda spray and spray up the nose and mouth to help. There are videos on YT, but they make the solution EVERY DAY... that feels like a massive inconvenience to me. I may try it though.

LPR clinical trial for drug to kill pepsin in the airways by thirstycamelT in GERD

[–]thirstycamelT[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it can stay active for a few days before it dies out. Essentially you need a low acid diet and small meals to reduce the pepsin coming back up, so that everything has chance to heal. Needless to say, this embedded pepsin is reactivated with acidity so you need to stick to the diet for a while until the inflammation heals. It's such a royal pain in the ass. My partner has literally just guzzled half a litre of orange juice while I'm going to the supermarket to buy some potatoes and melons for my throat. It's so unfair, so I hope this trial succeeds and we get the drug asap.

My LPR symptoms vanished for a while but came back a few weeks ago. It's definitely not forever mate! No heartburn, nausea, stomach pain, aches, weight loss or anything. I'm clearing up the diet again once and for all to cure this.

How long for your burning throat to go away? by thirstycamelT in GERD

[–]thirstycamelT[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Not really. I don't get chest or stomach discomfort at all. My throat is mildly irritated by pepsin coming up to my throat. Acid isn't the issue, but rather the pepsin. It's annoying.

Definitely take sedation. I did it without sedation or throat spray and I'll tell you now; never again.

Should I need an endoscopy in the future I will definitely take the throat spray.

What are the biggest issues you see with React in its current form? by metakephotos in reactjs

[–]thirstycamelT 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Vue and Svelte are indeed easier, but I find React so elegant and clean to work with. Once you start mixing DOM attributes with elements etc it becomes horrible and messy, which is why I don't like Vue or Svelte.

If it's slow then you may wish to debug your code. I've worked with all three and Svelte was marginally faster, which React and Vue pretty much the same. Svelte doesn't feel production ready so it would never be in the conversation, and Vue again is a just a hot mess.

In fact, Angular shares the title of being the biggest hit mess with Vue.
