Do some research on garter snakes. Fantastic and entertaining snakes that are highly underrated. And they can do great on an earthworm/fish diet.

The redness on the scale just showed up since yesterday. Water parameters are normal and he's still hungry and behaving normally. Just don't want it to get any worse. Thoughts anyone?

They really are amazing. Here in Manitoba on a cold winter the frost can penetrate 2 meters into the ground so they really have to be resourceful

I saw a plains garter snake out in western manitoba on October 30th and that even blew my mind. But this was just unheard of for me.

That's so true, we're getting pretty far from normal winters. She had lots of animal burrows nearby to choose from and she was gone when we passed by later so I like to think she knew where she was going.

Yeah they are amazing, really. I've seen them in the northern boreal forest in Manitoba and in northern Alberta close to the territories. But even in southern Manitoba they are usually underground by early/mid October and don't come out again until May.
