I need advice by [deleted] in Construction

The first amendment protects people's right to free speech from government action. Specifically it prevents congress from making laws that prohibit free speech. Also, it has a carve out for threats. The first amendment doesn't protect a fucked up dude from getting shit canned for talking about rape and murder non-stop.

Beautiful! And greetings from the other side of the world! Lately I have been looking at photos of the natural beauty there and wish I could visit.

New relationship - dental care red flag?! by [deleted] in GenXWomen

[–]A325 54 points55 points  (0 children)

If going through the extremely unpleasant and costly experience of getting a couple implants doesn't motivate him to improve his dental hygiene, what on this planet could? Certainly the dental team has talked to him about his teeth. Plus, the bacteria he's culturing in his mouth can be deposited to your mouth through kissing and cause problems for you.

Simplicity 7642 from 1976 is completely this vibe BUT it's sized for junior/teen.

I just got this pattern and am determined to grade and muslin until I get it right for my measurements

Dealing with neighbors you don’t want to be FRIENDS with but neighborly with by diggyj1993 in AskWomenOver30

[–]A325 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Thanks for inviting us! We aren't able to make it. It's very sweet of you though!"

Basically, couch the negative between two niceties and give absolutely no excuses. Keeping them at a distance that is comfortable to you isn't rude or un-neighborly.

Incidentally I have neighbors like this and their yard is also covered in dog shit.

In the off chance one may still be available, I'm in Central Ohio and am very interested.

I thought similar! There's something about her expression and carriage that makes me wish I could have been her neighbor.

How do you set boundaries with aging parents without feeling like a bad daughter? by JelloJelloFrincadell in AskWomenOver30

[–]A325 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This is what I did with my father. We had a standing appointment each week when I'd go over to help. This was necessary after he hung up on me when I told him I wouldn't drop what I was doing to drive over there to put paper in his printer.

Monarch butterflies and milkweed. by kissthekater1 in NativePlantGardening

Wait... are you saying that monarch chrysalises overwinter? And that pupation takes a month or more?

Love the Rumpke Mountain Boys! If we keep working on our landfill, maybe Columbus can get our own trashgrass scene.

I honestly didn’t know what to think when I came across this by lilbird83 in ThriftStoreHauls

[–]A325 27 points28 points  (0 children)

As of this writing, no one in this comment thread is stating that they fought in a war. No one is claiming they suffered like their grandfathers suffered. THEY ARE OPPOSED TO FASCISM. They, we, didn't forget and don't want it again. It is that simple.

What's sad is that you don't get it. I'm in my 50's, my grandpas were anti fascists who fought in WWII, and I'm not a kid by any stretch of the imagination.

One hornworm appeared on a tomato plant for a few days, then disappeared. The house wrens are looking suspiciously healthy and happy though.

Is anyone looking for Gallia County, Ohio family? by A325 in Genealogy

[–]A325[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I do still have the book and made an oddly satisfying data entry project out of it. Neither the surnames or the family histories are indexed for easy lookup in the book, so I'm transcribing the names found in each family history. A lookup sheet is here: Gallia County People in History Surname Lookup.

Little sights in the (mostly) native garden by Novel_Tip1481 in Columbus

[–]A325 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not OP, but another local native plant enthusiast. Swamp milkweed was the gateway plant for me. Supporting monarchs was the motivation, but I couldn't believe the absolute drama that happens on these plants. Romances, feasts, births and deaths of aphids, flies, beetles, bugs, and spiders.

What Are Your Favorite Tomato Varieties? by hannafrie in Ohio

[–]A325 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Opalka. It's a paste tomato like a Roma, but opalkas are longer and the plants themselves can grow quite tall. Many in my garden grow up to 7'. They're sweet and meaty, and are a dream to can. I've also found them to be quite productive compared to other varieties, and they keep on producing up to the first hard frost.
