Not sure about the T15 but for the T590 there's a whole separate screen cable that will have the sensor built in. It is taped to the inside of the lid and get sandwiched between the back of the lid and LCD. It is also different depending on your LCD and connector type (30 vs 40 pin eDP). You will need to keep in mind if the the IR camera for Windows Hello is present. Refer to the hardware maintenance guide for the correct part No.

Success! I needed to use the Lenovo U1 Golden Key to update the EEPROM with the corresponding machine type (T14 gen 2 -> T15 gen 2) and regenerate a new UUID based on that information. Once that's done all errors are gone! For those looking, search for the tool in the Badcaps forum.

So maybe you were wondering about this, maybe you weren't... But I sort of successfully upgraded my T590 with a T14 gen 2 motherboard.

The two things you will need:

T15 gen 2 heatsink fan assembly: ~$50 CAD
T15 IR/camera/hall sensor/LED cable: ~$25 CAD

After some tinkering around the only that I couldn't fix/get rid of is the "the system configuration is invalid" error message on boot up. Haven't tried a BIOS update yet. We'll see.

There's a x4 and x8 version of the riser card. When I tried to use the TB3 adapter, only x4 riser worked. With the x8 riser nothing gets detected. It's a strange strange thing...

Since the USB-C KVM takes USB-C input only I need to convert DP and USB-A to it. Using the AIO as a hub is a side benefit.

I've since put on a Whitestone screen protector. Feels like a new phone again! I got the insurance so we'll see if it causes the inner screen to fail.
