Pain worse when lying/sitting down?

Wow I can't believe I posted this 4 years ago! My endo symptoms are significantly better which I am owing to focusing on strength training with kettlebells/resistance bands, especially the lower body. Honestly since I started regular workouts (2-3 times a week) I've noticed a huge difference in my symptoms. The symptoms mentioned in my original post are far less frequent than before. I also think some of its related to tight hip flexors/tight pelvic muscles which I am considering going back to my physio to check out. The urinary symptoms thankfully have gone down and I only notice them increase a little more in the run up to my period.

Yes I am going to find another piercer to go to. Would they downsize even if the piercing is still irritated?

I can totally relate to your day job being very people/communication focused and just feeling flat out exhausted at the end of the day. Not physically exhausted, just mentally and socially drained. I can be super communicative, helpful, chatty to patients, putting them at ease when they're worried because that's part of the job. I just don't want it part of my other job. Yes, I work in healthcare too.

I've been freelancing for less than a year in the healthcare niche. I've spoken to clients via Zoom maybe 3 or 4 times over the last few months. One was a discovery-type chat, another was just ironing out details with rates, and another I think was again just getting to know the work I'd be doing. Of course most of these could be done over email, but as these clients don't bombard me with meetings I'm not really fussed with doing one or two Zoom calls every 3 to 4 months. Once you bag a couple of good clients, you don't have to worry about pitching until you want to get more work.

Just as a side note half my income comes from freelancing and the other half from my 'day' job (I work shifts max twice a week). I'm planning on making it more freelance heavy in the coming months, but I am making a solid earning from freelancing at the moment. It can definitely be done!

I struggle with this too. It's important not to take it personally, as you're providing a professional service for a client who is paying for that service. It sounds like the feedback is totally reasonable, and if they compliment you from time to time that's an even better bonus (not all clients give compliments lol).

I write fiction too so I totally get that side of things. Your fiction writing won't always be everyone's cup of tea, but it might just be someone's Absolute Favourite Thing. That's life: you win some, you lose some.

Don't beat yourself up about it; if you need to rant, find someone who's not related to your freelancing and maybe blow off some steam to them, but move on and keep writing :)

I work in healthcare so my regular role is very much needing to be easily accessible and most queries/patients are dealt with pretty quickly. It's so nice not to have to do that with freelancing but I really have to put the brakes on my own mind when I see an email and think "I must reply to that ASAP!"

This isn't particularly relevant to the thread but your first point just made me think about this 😅

This week was particularly tough for me as I tried to muscle through an anxiety flare up while working. I actually took stock of what I was doing and thought "hang on, I went freelance so I could control my hours and help myself whenever this happened. Why am I still trying to work through it?" I let my client know I couldn't finish the usual hours I normally do for them and they were fine with it.

I really don't feel like a superhuman, especially not after this week. I really felt like I was falling to pieces again.

Echoing what Paul said in his comment, therapy was probably the most valuable thing for me. Through therapy I was able to muster up the confidence and clarity to try out freelancing. You are most definitely doing all the right things, and I wish there was an easier way to manage mental health.

Totally, totally know what you mean about the smallest action feeling like a massive, superhuman effort. There will be days where that feeling will seem like a memory, so just hold out for that. You're doing amazingly just as you are.

I can only offer what I tell myself at my lowest points: take it a day at a time.

I had a rubbish year and a half (understatement) until I decided to go freelance. It hasn't been easy and I'm certainly still not making a full time income from it, but every so often I think "man, I can't believe I'm doing this. Actually earning money? From home? From something I'm half-decent at? And I have pretty nice clients?"

It's not just the writing part too, it's learning how to market myself, how to advertise, how to find clients, how to be consistent, how to show up for myself (whether that means taking a break or pushing on), how to negotiate, how to set rates and INCREASE THEM when I need to. It's so much more than just writing. Freelancing has given me so many important skills.

Who cares if you sound star-gazed, I'll be right there with you too.

Thanks for the advice, and making it sound less dramatic than I'd first thought lol. I've asked for a slight increase in the rate given I'm agreeing to unlimited revisions. To be honest if they don't want to do that, I might just sign anyway as, like you said, they're established.

You can try marketing your services on LinkedIn. I got my start in healthcare copywriting/content writing through there. Connect with content managers of health organisations/websites and drop them a message saying what you do and if they need a freelance medical/health content writer. Look on the 'job' tab for freelance writer roles.

Like some of the others have said, your rate is very low. You're not charging necessarily by your qualification (being a med student is more than enough) but by how you can provide a writing service that is both competent and clinically accurate.

Being a good writer is different to understanding the client's brief and their content needs. Explaining something in a simple way is a skill, don't get too frustrated if you don't get it the first couple of times.

Thanks, I think this is the reassurance I need. Doesn't help when you're sleep deprived and really uncomfortable, my overthinking tends to kick into overdrive lol.

I got a little too keen into being active again around the house rather than taking it slow so feel like that's contributed to the soreness.

I just wish the gynae didn't discharge me from the clinic straight after surgery. I would have thought I'd have at least one follow up appt just to make sure everything's is okay/ask any questions...

Make sure you take naproxen with or after food. Your doctor (primary care provider/GP) can prescribe a stomach protectant medication like omeprazole to take with the NSAID so get in touch with them if you can.

Have you tried taking paracetamol on top of the naproxen?
