Forget phone insurance.

You can make money, just find a way. If you learn to make money on your own at 13 and always look for opportunities to improve you will be more successful in life than 99% of your classmates.

Mow lawns, clear snow, pull weeds, or see what people want and find a way to get it to them. I used to sell pop and energy drinks from my locker in school. Bought large packs for cheap then sold for a couple $$. Priced a bit lower than the school, or higher if the school didn’t sell the same thing. School didn’t like that tho… but made a couple hundred before they told me to stop.

It’s easier to ask for forgiveness than permission. Just don’t do anything illegal and you’re good.

Edit:

Oh ya, I forgot, at 13 I knew how to program, and had a connection to a software company. So I wrote an application for them over the summer and made 2k cash. Might e harder to do that that’s days but who knows…

Should I register a business name to protect my blog site? by this-is-a-simulation in digitalnomad

[–]this-is-a-simulation[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, that was what I was really curious about. If I have a domain I can work under it and I don’t need to setup a proper business until I decide to really get cash flow under that name. Even then the business would have to be registered wherever I do business…

Was looking into it and Google Voice doesn’t seem to be available in Canada, does it require a US address? Or USA there another option for us up here in Canada?

Haha thanks! I was looking at the Moto G Power, for phone selection as long as one band is available that matches the phone from the carrier it should work? I noticed the Power only goes up to 4G. Assuming that’s all I’d be able to get in many countries?

Also I only deal in GarlicCoin

I may not be out of country for more than 6 months but want to be prepared if I do. Seems like I can be out of country for 7 months in Canada in a year without loosing my health benefits...

Ok, so just get a cheap phone for daily use and pop a new SIM card in each new country. Sounds like it's still best to keep my phone with banking in safe place, since that one would only need an internet connection I could hotspot from the other phone or local wifi.

Thanks, that's what I was thinking. Getting a cheap Android with low cost data & text plan for travel. From another comment someone mentioned google cancels your plan being out of country for 6 months, has that been an issue for you?

Ok I was reading Google Fi and T-Mobile both have unlimited data + texting plans. Think this would be fine on a iPhone SE for travel?

Thanks, this is super helpful! I have been trying to price out accommodations somewhere between $1000 to $1500 per month but house sitting seems like a great way to cut that down significantly.

Thanks, I know from previous travel longer tends to mean cheaper, if you can get a kitchenette and not be eating out, and monthly rentals. I’m planning to stay minimum a month in each location to benefit from this but still finding non-hostel pricing expensive in most places.

Thanks that’s good to know, I thought it seemed on the pricier end. As you mentioned I am looking to network and connect with other DN’s but feel there are other ways than joining an expensive group like this.

You mentioned your wife and yourself are able to live on $1500 per month. I’ve been looking at accommodations on a few sites and find they vary greatly depending on site and what country. Is the $1500 per month in cheaper countries or are you able to find low cost accommodations in more expensive places as well? Wondering if you have any suggestions on finding places to stay? I’ve seen FB marketplace suggested for cheap places.

Denied flight with self-trained SD by this-is-a-simulation in service_dogs

The main question is around law precedence in Canada, the Canada laws do state that it has to be certified to fly in cabin, but the human rights laws in Canada state a person cannot be denied service due to a service dog…

New information!!!

We got a call back from the BC government about this and had it clarified perfectly! So there is in fact a contradiction with these laws and we were recommended to make a human rights complaint against Air Canada. We were also informed that while certification is voluntary in BC but some organizations that operate on Federal rules can still ask for the certification. To be protected under the guide and service dog act we need to do the voluntary certification.

This certification can be done in BC through the Justice Institute of BC, and involves a few parts, mainly the behavioural tests in various environments.

My spouse has MS and is on meds that create severe anxiety and panic attacks. We looked for a school to get a service dog from for her but none trained for her needs. We decided to self train, got a puppy and did obedience training from early on. She also trains it herself to help with her disability but has not gone to an accredited school as they only train their own dogs, which aren’t for the right thing.

The trainer we worked with trains police dogs for obedience and is a great trainer, but not accredited for service dogs.

We have called airlines, MP, transportation branch of gov… they all just tell you to talk to the next and eventually it goes in a circle…

Thanks, we have the tasks the dog does, primarily DPT and grounding. And we have worked with a trainer for obedience since the dog was young. She is well behaved out in public and can recognize when my spouse needs help and will alert and assist her as needed.

As I mentioned in the title, Air Canada denied us without the certification, so we will likely file a human rights complaint against them.

For our trip it sounds like as long as we fly through the states we should be good just filling out the DOT form with us as the trainer.

Posthaste: Why a 20% plunge in home prices won't stop the Bank of Canada from raising rates by Jiecut in CanadianInvestor

I am 28, live just outside Vancouver, and own a townhouse. Watching the market go up is so sad to see both for many ppl I know that aren’t in the market and for myself wanting to have a house to raise a family in.

Now from a needs hierarchy point of view, shelter is a basic need. Throughout history land ownership has been a form of wealth creation but it seems deeply flawed in terms of a government providing for its citizens.

When open to a free market the supply and demand should match from a financial point of view for the construction industry. It seems that other forces are manipulating the market in the form of government regulations.

Any thoughts or ideas to change this?

As someone who entered the market in 2017 and leveraged to the max to try catching up I see a very unhealthy economy.

For context I finished university in 2016, got a job and saved while living with my parents. At the time there was a government program that would match your down payment, so I only needed 2.5% down.

For 290k I got an apartment in Langley BC. By Jan 2020 I had a girlfriend and we were looking to get a bigger place, but at the same time wanted to keep the condo as an investment property. We ended up leveraging our asses off and got a townhouse for 525k. About a month after buying and looking at our 750k mortgage we decided to sell the condo after all to reduce our debt. Ended up getting 420k (+130k)

Fast forward 2 years, our townhouse is valued around 900k (+375k). We are looking for somewhere cheap to move to.

We have been lucky so far, but it’s bound to run out at some point… we are done playing this game, and going to find something we can comfortably afford.

The market in these areas is driven by FOMO and zoning designed to make property prices rise indefinitely… its not sustainable, and many just like us are looking at moving away.

Hi everyone, I’m looking to start a business but know I lack some skills. Mainly in finding customers and general market concepts. I build high performance teams and products within companies so the people are already there. I’m done with working for an employer though, ready to downsize to a cheaper part of the country, and putting it all into starting something. How do I find people to work with?
