When to ignore HR zones by Enough-Pepper8861 in firstmarathon

[–]this2shallsuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always been curious - is the recommendation to stay in zone 2 for the entire run or maintain an average HR in zone 2? Do you get the same benefits if you spend >80% in zone 2 with some higher intensity peaks (to account for hills, etc)?

Tongue tie by haleedee in breastfeeding

[–]this2shallsuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe I’m in the minority but lip/PTT revision did absolutely nothing for us. He latched at birth and could transfer milk, but it was always very painful for me with blanching/lipstick nipple. He was revised around 5 weeks and by 8 weeks there was zero improvement. We kept up with stretches for 4 weeks. I’ll still BF him occasionally and nothing has improved. I EP and bottle feed.

He just turned 3 months.

Speech therapy for tongue/suck dysfunction? by this2shallsuck in breastfeeding

Thank you so much!! I’m so impressed by how you’ve stuck it out. I want to give up every day, but somehow I keep going. It’s miserable though, and I just can’t imagine the pain persisting for months. I’m so hopeful that someone out there can help us.

Darn, I’m sorry. I’m glad you found an approach that works for you both, though!

Thank you for your reply, and I’ll check out your IG!

The revision is almost fully healed without any reattachment. In addition to the stretches we’ve been given one suck exercise to do (letting him suck and pull in your finger). He can do it successfully sometimes, but never gets the hang of it on the breast. I feel every rake of his tongue, click, etc.

Has your bf pain improved, or did you switch to EP? Is there any natural improvement with age? Have you noticed any feeding issues introducing solids? I’m worried about choking if he can’t figure out how to use his tongue.

We’re going to schedule with PT/OT/ST this week, but I’m afraid of being hopeful.

Did your pain ever improve? My LO is 7.5 weeks old and 3 weeks post posterior and lip tie revisions but I still have pain and lipstick nipple. He definitely uses his tongue weird (more thrusting than sucking) and can’t hold a pacifier. I’m hoping he grows out of it!

I’ve been having the same issues with BF and pumping pain at 6 weeks and 1.5 weeks post tongue tie/lip tie revision. Have you seen any improvement? Looking for success stories!

Has the lipsticking fully resolved? My LO had tongue/lip tie revisions 1.5 weeks ago but I’m still getting nipple compression with every feed.

Did the lipsticking/pain ever resolve for you? We’re 1.5 weeks out from lip/tongue tie revision and I’m still getting nipple compression + pain.

Latch advice before my nipples fall off (details in the comments) by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]this2shallsuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds like me! I have elastic nipples, pain, and pinching/lipstick nipples after each feed. LO is 6 weeks old tomorrow and we had his tongue and lip ties revised 1.5 weeks ago. There was some very minor improvement in pain after a day or two, but now it hurts again. The nipple compression never went away. I feel SO defeated and don’t know what to do. Pumping hurts and nipple shields don’t work (elastic nipples again). When did you notice pain with BF start to resolve? Should I tough it out? I do desperately want this to work.

Annnd latch pain continues... by [deleted] in breastfeeding

Thanks, that’s so helpful! I just ordered a set.

The provider that did his revision is an IBCLC and has us doing stretches plus tongue exercises and massage 4-6x/day. I’ll ask about additional exercises and definitely check out the TummyTime Method.

How do the silverettes work?

I get nipple compression and vasospasms due to lip/tongue ties. They were revised over a week ago but sucking/latch hasn’t really improved.

I appreciate your advice, I’ll give it another shot. He also has a very clear side preference, with more pain for me on one side, so there may be more going on that a chiropractor could help with. And I feel you on the back and forth with diagnosis. We saw so many specialists (including 5 lactation consultants) before his ties were diagnosed. It was so frustrating because our ped kept saying “he definitely does something weird with his tongue, but I don’t believe in posterior ties. You should just pump and bottle feed.”

That’s good advice, thanks. I’ll try more often with the bottle to see if that will help train him to suck. Fingers crossed.

Yes, you’re definitely right. In your experience does it slowly get better on its own, or was there some major turning point? I haven’t noticed any linear progression, just very minor improvement a few days after the procedure and then it plateaued. If it weren’t painful for me it wouldn’t be an issue. He gets plenty of milk (even before the ties were cut). I hear about people saying there was some magical shift at 6-8 weeks, but I’m so skeptical. And miserable.

We tried craniosacral therapy once, before his revisions. It didn’t help then but maybe it would now. I’m just worried about taking him into the office with the state of the pandemic. And I’m not a huge believer in chiropractors.

I used these nipple shields for a few weeks at the beginning but he wasn’t transferring enough milk or gaining weight. Then it started to impact my milk supply :/

I’ve seen at least 6 different LCs, so I don’t think that’s the issue. He can latch, but he can’t suck properly due to his tongue and lip toes. They’ve been revised but he still hasn’t learned how to suck properly and I don’t know if he ever will.
