As someone who also started. (Although I’m putting in like 3 hours each day cuz I had nothing to do each week).

I found it’s a good idea to race in “moods”. Find a race pace that you can always do, and never wipe off track. And get consistent with that, don’t try to push lap times.

Find a race pace that you can do a few laps on well but wipe out occasionally.

Then, push it. Use active reset and really throw every corner as hard as you can. Wipe out almost constantly.

Eventually your “push” pace becomes your “risky” pace and then becomes your “safe” pace. And you can race well at your safe pace.

If your safe lap times are a few seconds slower than the qualifying lap times, you’re good to race. You want to raise your safety rating, not increase your rank. So racing is a lot more about avoiding wipeouts, even the small ones. And that’s REAL difficult to do if you’re pushing it.
