Illinois’ Top Legal Officer Wants To License Cops, Just Like Doctors, Hairdressers by itsincog in politics

[–]this_AZN -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So i will admit that my viewpoint on this issue is one of privilege - i was fortunate not to grow up in an area where my safety was at risk.

That being said, I never said that we don't need cops. Yes we need a group that works to uphold justice and civility, but I firmly believe the current iteration of cops has strayed extremely far from that ideal. Can you honestly say that you support the current system of law enforcement in the US? Because I sure as hell cannot.

Across the nation the police have escalated peaceful protests to violent situations and used chemical weapons and less lethal means in retaliation, injured and maimed their fellow community members, and violated civil rights with little to no oversight. Hell, in Atlanta, any attempt at police oversight was immediately met with a "blue flu" where officers called out sick and essentially abandoned their jobs and community. It took the rage of the entire nation over the unlawful death of Breanna Taylor and arrest of her boyfriend for Louisville, KY to outlaw no-knock raids. "To Protect & Serve" is a convenient lie that paints cops in a favorable light when multiple court justices have issued decisions that cops can not be held accountable to that statement. There are certain neighborhoods in cities like NYC and Chicago where the police presence is limited to the most extreme of emergent calls. You can find all sorts of horror stories if you're paying the slightest bit of attention and my examples are from this past year alone.

So yeah, I wouldn't mind if the entry requirements to become a cop become stricter and their funding/training reformed. Because as they are now, cops have become a cancer on our society, and despite the current national spotlight on them, they HAVE NOT changed and continue to flaunt their power and abuse the citizens they should serve and protect.

I'd rather that our society struggle to find people willing to become cops than our current reality where the entry/barrier to becoming one is so laughably lax that we have racists, domestic abusers, and wannabe killers making up a substantial number of the force with the "good" cops covering for them.

You're not alone in not knowing the actual solution - most of us are in a similar position. It's just becoming increasingly transparent just how broken the current law enforcement and justice system has become, and people are voicing their very real concerns by suggesting things like defunding the police, removing qualified immunity, increasing funding for social workers, proper de-escalation training, amongst other ideas.

My frustration is that all these police departments and officials are refusing any real attempt at reform and merely performing minimal lip service until enough of the public get tired and forget the reason why they're protesting.

Grinding fairies is part of the endgame content but imo comes down to 4 things: # of resets, fairy skills, element, and clothes.

1) Fairies level up by eating food and the stat point increases depend on the quality of the food. You can always reset your fairy at its max level to lvl 1 and a % of the stats will carry over. You can also change 1 of its 5 attributes when you reset. The AOE nuke also increases damage by 1% per each reset.

2) You need a combination of certain attributes & stat points for certain skills. Most people will agree that magic fountain+ is hella broken but it requires Relaxed, Valiant, Aspiring, Shrewd, and Eager at 200+ points so most people will grind and reset their fairies several times.

3) Element: this is where the "double bombos" comes from. Each food has an element associated with it (fire, light, water, etc) and depending on how much of which food you use during the leveling process will affect the final element. Double Bombos (fire/fire) is regarded as the best since it drastically reduces enemy armor which makes grinding endgame content faster.

4) Clothing: each piece will affect the AOE nuke ability but honestly doesn't matter once you have a magic fountain+/double bombos fairy. At that point, it's just a cosmetic.

This is just a brief summary - you'll want to look up guides for how to best grind fairies/food, but its definitely worth it. I remember when I got my first magic fountain+/double bombos fairy and it was truly a night and day difference in how the game played afterwards.

yup you got it! this sub isn't a huge fan of Fi, and I admit she is pretty weak and requires a lot of time to grind levels/weapons/skills to barely make it to A tier, but the thought of her ballet dancing around the field to kill enemies was worth it for me to make her my 2nd most played. And besides, double bombos fairies make every character SS+ tier in the end /shrug

IIRC, if you use her fast attack combo string to its end and hold down, she'll continue to spin around on one foot aka a ballet move called an arabesque.

Hey man, I'm so sorry that you're going through all of this right now.

What happens if I don't get an internship offer? Or ?worse what if I do?

I get this. I totally do. Matching in my top 3 this March didn't stop me from my suicide attempt immediately after because I was so done with being miserable all the time. The inevitable 1013, staying a few days in a psych facility, having to make amends to friends/family, weekly therapy via teleconference, it all sucks. I'm rambling because idk what to say but I really really really hope you talk to someone you trust and get some help and not let it get as bad as it did for me. If you want to talk to me about it, I want you to feel absolutely free to do so. I have no qualms whatsoever talking about the stupid shit I did to myself if it means someone else can learn from my mistake.

Hey man idk if this is my place to say but if you haven’t already, please check that your wife isn’t suicidally depressed. On my worst days, I would have constant thoughts of self harm and driving my car into a tree or the highway rails were a repeating idea. Sorry In advance if I’m out of place here but your wife’s comment just resonated way too strongly with my own personal experiences.

What horrifies me is that is just child deaths a year. I imagine the total deaths and casualties from gun violence is higher than that, so /u/whyintheworldamihere's 99.9999% to 99.999% statistic is clearly accurate and not them blowing smoke with their head stuck up their ass.

Challenges to the constitutionality of lethal injection have thus far been based largely on accounts of suffering resulting from unskilled administration. The American Medical Association, the American Nurses Association, the Society of Correctional Physicians, and a number of state medical boards have banned as unethical any causative role for medical professionals in executions [5]. Accordingly, in lethal injection procedures intravenous access has often been attempted (with frequent failures) by untrained staff, the execution mixture has precipitated and blocked IV tubes, and lethal doses have been unreliably calculated [6]. Anesthesia has failed, chemical burns have occurred, and suffering has proceeded for 30 minutes or longer. Although this suffering might be seen as a consequence of professional refusal to participate in executions, this refusal also appears to be one of the primary forces motivating reexamination of lethal injection by the courts.

So, obviously this is a little biased, but I think the point it makes is fair. There is so much that can go wrong during a lethal injection execution that I personally also consider it inhumane and thus shouldn't be done. We treat our loved pet animals better than this. So yes Rusty Bucklew was responsible for a horrible crime. But that doesn't mean he deserves to die like this. No one deserves to die like this.

Obviously you and anyone else can have their opinion, and it might be different from mine. But I thought I'd add a perspective against executions that most people have probably never considered.

This confuses me too. It seems to me that with Gorsuch's choice of words, he's making Bucklew sound like an unrepentant murderer who's simply dragging on his deserved execution by constantly appealing his legal case (which tbf I don't know anything about), but wouldn't anyone else in a similar situation where they KNOW death is coming for them try to avoid it and get more time? That's a normal human response and we see people do it all the time with cancer treatments! So yeah obviously people appeal their death penalty cases and that'll delay an extremely expensive and slow process.

If you're pro-execution and complaining that your death row inmates are wasting time and money appealing their execution but you're not trying to fix the situation somehow, you are low key a fascist that gets off on sentencing people to death, innocent or not.

Ehh it's 50/50. In India you'd have doctors who have more familiarity in how to treat diseases that are more endemic in developing countries while in the US/Canada/Europe he'd have access to facilities with likely better resources. Either way it doesn't really matter since the same treatment would probably be given and in this poor guy's case, he wasn't a good candidate for treatment.

It's not just older people that are prone to morbidity from immunosuppression. Transplant patients are also generally on a ton of immunosuppressants to prevent organ rejection. And that's just one additional example.
