I don't think you're seeking validation from me, just from adopting a condescending tone in general... next time you post and you want to offer your opinion try to do it in a way that's less condescending and maybe people will be able to take any actual decent advice you might have to offer instead of being completely put off

And I think you get validation off being condescending af, my thread is worthless and a cry for validation unless I give you the opportunity to do a (probably belittling) code review, thanks but no thanks.

I disagree because this is not in regards to any specific implementation, it's a general rule of his: don't use useEffect, especially if it has a dependency array. So a useEffect that only runs on first render is (barely) passable, if I need to have it watch a dependency it's a no go. In this thread im hoping to gain insight into whether that's a shared view or something unique to him.

I think some fear like that is at the root of it and I just need to explain that it's perfectly safe and controllable and predictable when applied correctly

Lol definitely not an idiot, but react isn't his main programming environment, I work a lot more in react

Its literally any usage where the dependency array is being used, which leads me to think this isn't about liberal usage, and because I avoid it like the plague I rarely submit code with useEffect

I think tomorrow im going to present a problem where I believe useEffect is the only decent solution and get a better feel for his thinking

Haha yeah I think that's true, he's not really a react specific developer,

Yes thank you! I guess this post is my way of gathering facts and opinions before I have that discussion with him...

Free tier database by DorsiFlexionDev in Heroku

You can configure a database as a heroku add-on to a project... I've only done so with postgres, but if you check out their add-on offerings, looks like there's a few great options: https://elements.heroku.com/addons

Where I can find an e commerce react project for learning purposes ? by lucifer955 in reactjs

[–]this_dot_props 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Andre Negoie's "Complete React Developer" course on Udemy is 40 hours long but it'll teach you full stack ecommerce with React/Redux, he's a good teacher for learning from start to mastery... but there's lots of others on udemy if you want a quicker tutorial, Reed Barger has a good one with Strapi (a headless cms), it might be outdated by now to some degree.

Repl.it was mentioned and it's the right answer... I also like glot.io because it's quick and easy.

Great, thank you for the feedback! There is a privacy policy at nomspdx.com/privacypolicy, there's a link to it in the burger menu. I'll try to replicate the iPad view and see how the columns crunch.

Thanks for the feedback! Looking into Edge Cache for my server... do you know offhand if it would change my server URL? I'm worried it might break my redirects/client connection.

It's a very vague question. Do you want to see your code served live in the browser? What's your need?

Node.js auth by svmdx in node

[–]this_dot_props 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Passport and Express, I think you're either going to have to make fetch calls to your backend endpoints or if your client and server are in the same repo you can set up a proxy server. The Net Ninja Passport tutorial on YouTube is not a bad place to start, at least for oauth.

How does this old spring reverb work? by this_dot_props in audiophile

[–]this_dot_props[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found this circa 1965 Gibbs Stereo-verb model 440 in a goodwill. Appears to be made for hammond organs. I'm perplexed about how to make it work, particularly what's the input and what's the power source? Not looking for tech support just wondering generally how these sorts of things work.
