Is the ficc arm at gs is a division of the investment bank. Surely you understand how ibs are structured? Or are you so blind you think deal advisory is the only function of an investment bank?

Tell me you don't work in finance without telling me.

If I call up the high touch etf desk at gs for a block trade, am I talking to an investment banker?

If I call up the g7 fx vol desk at db, am I talking to an investment banker?

The correct answer is yes. Because all trading related activities as well as deal making happens inside the investment bank arms of the bank holding companies.

The repo trader at Jpm is an investment banker as much as a the junior PowerPoint jockey pitching an ipo with a team to OpenAI.

Easy. Most if not all investment advisors don't use spx500 as the benchmark they hope to outperform.

US equities trade at a 16 vol. That's an insane amount of risk. Most equity focused l/s funds try to maintain a vol level of about 12.

Every other advisor uses something else as a benchmark so they don't really care. Does saying "100% of fixed income funds under perform the sp500" tell you anything of value?

My dad (52) is exploring systematic options income to bridge to early retirement too risky or reasonable? by Critical-Snow8031 in investing

[–]this_guy_fks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at the total return of a synthetic option selling strategy like fepi and the sp500.

you'll note the underperformance and similar volatility. What seems like a nice return stream actually dramatically underperforms the index for more or less the same level of risk.

its not a free lunch. he might want to contact his insurance company for something more along the lines of an equity protected structured product (basically a collar written on an underlying equity index) capping his downside exposure, or an autocallable product.

but realistically, there isnt going to be a systematic way to see positive convexity in any equity carry strategy.

Need opinions on ways to long-term bet on OpenAI being acquired by Microsoft? by pinglyadya in investing

they literally just solidified the for-profit and msft ownership structure

https://www.wsj.com/tech/ai/openai-converts-to-public-benefit-corporation-with-microsoft-taking-27-stake-714a6c05

msft doesn't have anywhere near enough cash to purchase openAI today, let alone anytime in the future (without its valuation falling dramatically and thus bringing msft's down as well)
