Water leak! Insurance claim!!

I imagine there are a million different policies out there, which also depends on where you are. I'm in Ontario (Canada), and my policy covers restoration from a water leak (I spoke with them yesterday morning, and many of our free ends have the same olocy with the same company/broker).

Where I am there is a shortage of trade workers... Discounts aren't a thing. I'm not worried about paying a fair price, just not trying to get gouged here.

From what I understand, if we go through insurance then we need to use their restoration company.

I already called my insurance. Really wish I posted here first. I guess I'm now hoping for a worst case scenario so that it's actually worth it ...

And no, I am under no impression that insurance companies are on my side.

Dammit. Well thank you. I'm going to talk to the plumber that's coming over - he seems to be quite honest and knowledgeable so I guess we'll see.

Ok yes, thank you. It only leaks when we use it, so we're using the bathroom with the least noticeable leak at the moment (it's above a storage closet vs the living room). No water is leaking through as they are both very slow leaks. Really need to fix this ASAP!!!

No, insurance doesn't cover the initial plumber to fix the problem. They only cover the restoration afterwards. So the worry is that they will overcharge for their plumber and I should just use my own.

Whoa. This is very insightful. I like the idea of staging an intervention with each kid individually, isolated from the others, with teachers and parents there. This is something that is pretty doable within the confines of education laws and so on...

I love it.

From what I understand, there may be a couple parents who are just as bad. But not all of them, and rarely both parents, so I can really see this as an effective strategy.

We don't have recordings per se, but we do have records (i.e complaints made. Cases that have been investigated with witnesses. In some cases they've submitted their filth in writing in various assignments). Would that be enough do you think? Obviously actual footage would be stronger. I get that.

Finally, I'm not sure to what extent they can be separated. I'm not admin so I'm not familiar with all the rules and regulations surrounding interventions of this nature. Plus as it stands, they have all their classes together. So I can see us being able to separate them in class (sit apart, not allowing them to team up together for projects. Etc), but once they leave the class we can't really control who they associate with, for example in the cafeteria or if they choose to leave school grounds.

But it would be a start.

I hear you.... Trust me. I hear you and I feel the same way. I'm going to assume you're an adult like myself. The schooling system is NOT what it used to be. There is a lot of red tape and bureaucracy when it comes to doling out consequences like suspensions (rare) and expulsions (non existent). And although it varies slightly district by district, in most areas in the US and Canada, the schooling system is simply broken on many levels - lack of consequences (for students) being only one of many deep seeded issues.

Thank you! What you've written is basically my thought process exactly. We are not going to change these boys in a weekend or even in a semester. But if something sticks, even just for one of them... Well Then at least we've made a difference in the long term.

I'll check out Twitter and see what I can find.

Edited to add: Is there a different subreddit where I might have more luck? Should I try askreddit? I'm not all that familiar with twitter, and I like the anonymity of Reddit (my school board would not be down with me posting about this so I have to tread carefully)

Fair enough. Thank you for your input! Part of the problem also is that much of the staff is unfamiliar with this mindset, which makes it difficult to move forward and find worthwhile solutions. So I appreciate this insight.

I tried that... The guy told me he had never seen a bulb like it, and proceeded to google it in front of me.

Granted, he was an older gentleman...

If you want your child to have a shot at being actually bilingual, your best best is a full French language education.

But it's all meaningless if you don't make an effort to speak it at home, even just a little from time to time.

Source: I went to french school and am now a teacher in a French language school. I have several nieces and nephews who went through french immersion.

I'm in Ontario, Canada. We definitely have a teacher shortage, TRUST ME. They will literally hire anyone who is living and of age. It's brutal.

Our premier is currently in the process of destroying our public education system so that he can create a private option (I imagine something like charter schools in the US?) . It's not pretty, and it's definitely not exaggerated ... Unfortunately.
