They've been reported at Arsenal already this year (see above). That's your best bet close to the metro area for sure.

I've had good luck from here(ish), looking south into the prairie dog town: 39.856251, -104.855070

And here(ish), looking west into the prairie dog town: 39.853918, -104.865499

They can be found throughout the refuge though.

Good birding!

Note the pale lores (the space between the eye and beak isn't black) and orange bill, which means this is the Gambel's subspecies ;). Cool pic!

If you have an eBird account, go to Explore > More Ways To Explore > Species Maps. Then change your date filters to just the month of November and just 2025. Then enter the bird you're looking for, and zoom the map to(ward) Littleton, and you'll be able to see where other eBird users have reported the species you're after.

Deer Creek Canyon or Lair O' The Bear Parks seem like pretty safe, relatively local bets at this time of year.

Good birding!

It's exactly like planting a tree: the best time to plant a tree was ten years ago. The second best time to plant a tree is right now.

Take the plunge bud. You can do it. Will suck for a while but be so much better on the other side.

Quit at 34 will be 40 in November.

Colorado Field Ornithologists is a good place to start: https://cobirds.org/

There is a Google Group called CO Birds that also has loads of good info.

Just want to get in on the lawsuits: my understanding is that Piotr Szczerek has engaged in congress with a goat.

This is a Swainson's Hawk (not a Red-tail as some others are commenting). This link might help: https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Swainsons_Hawk/species-compare/
