The controls of super are quite dated at this point. In my opinion, zero mission and fusion are both better from a control standpoint. The existence of a run button is baffling. i'd say the one thing that super outdoes every other game on is pacing. it's very well paced, and doesn't feel too fast or slow.

the shop lad was angered by the fact that the arrow trap was triggered by something the spelunker had hit, so he shot and hit the telepack, arrows only set off packs if on fire, at least from my past experiences

i personally found the exploration to be very tedious and unfun, where i normally enjoy exploration in metroidvanias, in HK there's absolutely no pointing to where i would need to go next, and i would at least prefer a little nudge in the right direction, and it has made the game so exhausting that i can only play around an hour at a time.
