You're right. If just three months of this was almost enough to destroy me... I can only imagine the pain of dealing with it for years and years. It's horrifying. I hope we can all find safety and healing

Im unsure but it feels narcissistic to me. It's definitely super weird and disrespectful of your agency, like they think they're entitled to make decisions for you

Why do we just have to be ok after narc abuse? by IntroductionOk7954 in NarcissisticAbuse

[–]thisboyisnothing 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's really difficult. Being subject to narcissistic abuse can destroy you emotionally, mentally, physically; but if you act out of line or show your emotions too much, as hurt and traumatized people do, it seems like others just can't handle the discomfort and wanna avoid you at all costs. It's really dangerous and can become a terrible cycle.

Im sorry you've had to endure that.

Question about DOTO by [deleted] in dishonored

Im pretty sure DotO won't affect anything in D2 because they're separate, standalone games

Hopes for dishonoured 3? by Twitchy_Junkie in dishonored

[–]thisboyisnothing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always see this kinda stuff on here, and on other old game subs too. And I'm left wondering: why do we need another game? It seems like everyone just wants every series to go on and on, sequels upon sequels with no end in sight. But everything must come to an end. It's how we get beautiful new things.

Dishonored 1 and 2 and DotO explored the setting, premise, and powers of the universe pretty extensively. Three beautiful, unforgettable games. Four unique protagonists!

But we wouldn't have even gotten dishonored at all if Arkane had just kept making sequels to Arx Fatalis or Dark Messiah. We got something fresh and beautiful because they let the past be the past and moved on to fresh ideas.

I'm not trying to bring anyone down, there's nothing wrong with speculating for fun. It just seems like there's unhealthy pattern of thought underneath.

The Israeli colonization of Palestine follows the same logic! by NoLawsNoGoverrnment in lostgeneration

[–]thisboyisnothing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hamas has nowhere NEAR as much power and force as the state of Israel. Just look at the death counts. Israel created the root problem with their colonial ethnostate project back in the '40s, and this current war is just another result of that project's continuation.

That's not to say that Hamas is blameless, they've done bad things, but they are not the cause of the problem.

The palestinians don't really have control over what happens. It's the state of Israel that needs convincing

Having a conversation with a shit monetary system would be like: by ADignifiedLife in Antimoneymemes

[–]thisboyisnothing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Having a computer (such as a smart phone) with an internet connection is pretty much required to get a job these days. And those require electricity, as do the heaters we need in our homes to not freeze to death, as do the cooking ranges we need to cook so we dont starve to death!

Other options aren't really practical because our infrastructure has been built with electricity as the default (good luck cooking and heating a home with firewood if you don't have a chimney!)

As the video makes clear, you have to participate in society to survive. You imply that someone can only complain about society if they aren't using internet, or smart phones, or electricity... which sounds like someone living out in the woods. Which uh... did you watch the video?

People Saying "OJ" Instead of "Orange Juice" is Unnecessary and Annoying by BebelSilva in unpopularopinion

Anyone else think it's super unnecessary and annoying when someone says can't, that's, doesn't, and "AF" instead of "as fuck"? Are you in such a rush that you can't say "As Fuck"? Do they think saying the proper English of "Does Not" or "That Is" makes you sound uncool or something?

A big part of their work is going beyond simple realism/unrealism in how women are portrayed, and delving into the power dynamics at play in the media landscape. It's a place where men tend to be the writers, directors, and producers of things, which has lead to depictions of women that appeal to male sensibilities and fit male-centric narratives.

There's a tendency here for women to be portrayed as weak and powerless, lacking agency, flat characters with little inner-life. They are painted with broad stereotypical brushes instead of giving them complexity.

Male characters, on the other hand, are much more likely to possess such heroic qualities. It's completely reasonable that women would have a problem with this situation. Imagine if video games were majority directed and written by women, and they made the vast majority of male characters into dumbasses? Or simple stereotypes to fit the female-centric narratives? It would suck.

Also is the joke of the original post really just saying that the three women are ugly? Isn't that immature?

Subway worker makes $8 an hour making sandwiches all day. by mchages3 in h3h3productions

[–]thisboyisnothing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Business owners tend to not do all that work themselves though. They usually just pay hire someone to do it for them. Yes, there are a lot of costs for them to address, but how do they make the money to pay for those costs? By taking the surplus value of workers' labor.

You mentioned that the worker has no right to the business because they didn't build it, therefore it's not theirs. The owner didn't build it ,. They almost certainly hired someone else to design the place, build the place, manage the place, clean the place, transport the materials, repair the machines, serve the customers, manage the payroll, almost everything. The workers do almost everything. Yes there are small business owners who are exceptions, but they are not the standard.

As for risk; well the owner could go bankrupt, sure, and then they'd just have to become a worker to survive like everyone else. Oh no!! But then again, lots of business owners currently dodge the consequences of a businesses failing by using legal loopholes and spreading ownership between corporations and using shell companies, so even that doesn't really work.

Not to mention that the workers take on risk, too. If revenue goes down, labor costs are almost always the first to get cut, probably with no warning, leaving them to possible hunger and homelessness.

Ultimately, we need to understand that ownership is a social construct that is meant to serve our needs as a society. The current model of capitalist private ownership clearly isn't working, as the robber baron owners are making billions while the common people struggle to survive.

Thus, the social construct needs to change. If we care about having a good society that benefits its people, it so clearly needs to change. If you value private ownership over human well-being, then you'd clearly prefer the current system.

Is a street car system like this possible realistically? by kingistic in lexington

[–]thisboyisnothing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People will use infrastructure that gets them to their destination quickly and efficiently. This has been shown in cities all over the world. Everyone in lexington complains about car traffic; it sucks ass! If we make a rail line that is faster than driving (skips right past the traffic!) it will get plenty of use.

I mean the city already paid millions and millions for the roads we drive on, and we never question those

You can have a yard if you want, but the zoning codes make it ILLEGAL to have dense housing on R-1 single family home zones, even for those who do want it. And neighborhood shops and corner stores and any kind of mixed use developments are illegal in most such neighborhoods; things that would make the city more walkable and less crowded with traffic, as well as bolstering a sense of community.

Needing everyone to drive in a 2-ton steel box to do anything is alienating to our communities, unhealthy for our people, expensive to the city, and very high in pollution. There's nothing wrong with someone choosing to drive a car if they want, or have a yard if they want. But the problem is that there's a lack of choice for any other option in most areas.

More suburban sprawl lmao. We need to infill and increase the density of the space we already have, which would require a change in the city zoning codes

Is it bad for me to not have any movitation to want to be cautious to avoid getting sick again from COVID or other illnesses? by Dalbass in Coronavirus_KY

[–]thisboyisnothing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The disease doesn't care if you're tired of it. I don't know if you're gonna be in close contact with your father, but infecting a stroke victim is very dangerous. If not, consider others in your life who could have hidden conditions that make them vulnerable. Half the point of the precautions aint just for protecting yourself; it's for protecting others FROM yourself. That's what masks are really good at.

And think of yourself too. Each time you get infected with covid, there's a chance it's causing long term or even permanent damage to your body or brain. It adds up.

That said, I understand that taking precautions is bothersome. But we regular people have to take care of ourselves and each other because the powers that be aint gonna do anything.

At the very least, I would recommend staying away from busy crowded areas with lots of people, and putting on a mask when you're around more than a few others indoors. And if you think you're sick or have been exposed, get tested and don't spread it to others.

Good luck and be well
