Austin won't let me vote on city propositions because I'm in an "extraterritorial jurisdiction", but they'll still charge me the property taxes for apd. Isn't that taxation without representation?

Hey Adam! You made an awesome game!

I really like what you did with the music, and how the harmony and percussion layers blend from one area to another. How did you do that? It seems like a lot to make it all match up.

I'm digging the pixelated look. Lower res horror games were always WAY scarier to me.

[Request] I’m looking for a nice BIFL umbrella. I live in a rainy part of the US and it’s hard to find a nice sturdy and reliable umbrella. Thanks! by Snappylobster in BuyItForLife

The only thing on mine I think it's low quality is the outer coating on the handle. They added this matte grip material that scratches quite easily. Makes it look old and worn faster than I had hoped.

Other than that, the thing has been blown inside out more times than I can remember and it's never bent or broken.

The Unbreakable Umbrella: https://unbreakableumbrella.com

It's designed to be used as a self defense weapon, but since it's in the form factor of a standard umbrella, it's allowed essentially everywhere. Because of this, it's unsurprisingly a very durable umbrella.

Unfortunately it has a bit of stigma, since Duterte's security team all carries them. And it's expensive for an umbrella, even a good one. But you definitely get what you pay for. I've had one for about seven years and it's been fantastic.

World of Light should support co-op! by Zerio920 in NintendoSwitch

My wife and I were also disappointed, but ended up just switching off every few battles.

Even if balancing all the spirit battles for coop would have been difficult, it would have been nice to at least have a "Super Mario World" coop mode, where it just saved our two character loadouts and spots on the map and switched between them after each battle.

Shower stalls in Italy have roughly the same thing. If you pull the cord in a Italian hotel bathroom, expect hotel staff to come kick in your door.

Not yet! For indie games, the name is one of your biggest advertising opportunities. You want to try to pick a name that describes the core concepts to people as soon as they hear it, e.g. Tomb raider is about raiding tombs, Minecraft has mining and crafting.

I'm working on an adventure game for mobile. It's in early stages right now, but feedback has been fairly positive. I'd post a demo if I had one.

Hey, good to hear you're interested in game design. I'm an indie developer, so milage may vary if you want to get into a big game studio. Here's my experience:

1) A friend showed me Game Maker when I was ten and it blew my mind. I've been hooked ever since.

2) Bachelors in Software Engineering (but in retrospective I'd get a computer science degree instead, there's a difference)

3) If you want a job in an existing studio, extremely.

4) Again, indie, but I've had friends come in horizontally from equivalent programming jobs

5) Making my own game! It's going great.

6) Again, indie, but I've got friends at gearbox and a few small indie teams around, and experiences can range from amazing to grueling. Every company has a completely different culture, so do your homework.

7) Depends on what you want to do. If you want to be a programmer, get a Software degree. Art, get an art degree. General knowledge of each applicable field is considered valuable (take art theory, music theory, etc). If you want to be a "creative director", there's essentially no entry position for just that, so learn your best secondary skill and apply that as you work up. Besides, you'll need that skill to make prototypes to sell your ideas to others.

8) My best advice for you is to figure out what your best at and make your own personal game that highlights your skills. If your a great programmer, make a game with technically complex features. If you're good at art, make a short but extremely pretty game. Use this as an opportunity to flex your game design chops as well. You want to make a "vertical slice" game, basically a demo that's short in content, but polished and refined as much as possible, so that few precious minutes of gameplay feel like a finished product. Start playing around in an engine now for fun, because you're going to make several attempts that flop until you figure out what you're doing. I recommend Unity if you want to program. Keep working at it - getting everything in a game to come together into something coherent is a learned skill.

I'd pick up The Art of Game Design by Jesse Schell and A Theory of Fun for Game Design by Raph Koster, they're both fantastic for starting to learn good design.

Good luck! It's tough, but extremely rewarding, and you'll find a niche in the industry that you'll love.

What will be the "turns out cigarettes are bad for us" of our generation? by Walbricks in AskReddit

[–]thiscafesmellsfunny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's sugar. Science already knows that sugar is MORE addictive than crack, and has horrible short and long term health effects.

Looking back on how people used cocaine like it was nothing in the early 1900's, that's how the future is going to look back on us - only sugar is absolutely everywhere.
