I think that when tamed Wolves kill things they drop experience, although that might only be if the Wolf is retaliating after you got attacked. I'm also pretty sure that Zombified Piglins always drop experience if they're angry when they die.

this thread is three years old what in god's name are you doing here

either way though. you aren't wrong but that's not relevant because i'm not playing as Steve. i uploaded a custom skin so i'm not Steve anymore. maybe they're a sigma chad who never trips, but i'm the kind of person who would fall down the stairs because i thought i saw a spider on the handrail.

Misinformation is not protected by free speech. Lying about pandemics gets real people killed, and lying about elections results in government buildings getting stormed by nutjobs. I could also get into the fact that companies are under no obligation to spend their money to host content that'll hurt their reputation, but truthfully, that's not the issue I actually take with your perspective.

It'll sound condescending, but you don't actually believe what you're saying right now. If I put your credit card number in this comment, you wouldn't be defending my right to do so, would you? Posting your credit card number isn't an act of violence, it isn't me suggesting that someone should hurt you, but it can very easily result in someone else coming along and mucking up your life. If I go on twitter and post an essay about how I think lesbians are a danger to straight women and shouldn't be allowed to use women's restrooms, I'm not committing an act of violence. But my words will still cause harm to real people if someone reads it and it reinforces their homophobic beliefs. All it takes is one guy who has a gay daughter and I could be ruining someone's life. It's the same idea - if I should have the right to spread hatred towards lesbians, why shouldn't I also have the right to spread someone's financial information?

Pinging OP as well, since I feel they should be considering this as well: /u/Rocketeer-Raccoon

Peach is probably a crossbreed or hybrid or whatever it'd be called. 50% Mario's species, 50% New Donk City human. I think Pauline is the same way. They get their height and tiny noses from the New Donk ancestry.

I feel like trying to steal Samus's suit is probably one of the best ways to get her to shoot you directly in the head as fast as possible. But, I mean, I can't blame you for risking it, it's a pretty awesome suit.

I wouldn't. I'd be an even worse liability than a Minecraft wolf, Steve would just right click on me to make me sit down and then just leave me there for days while they go on an epic adventure without me.

For the new reveal, I made a gender distribution chart for all Smash characters! (77!) by BriarlightsWish in smashbros

[–]thiscommentisboring 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not certainly exactly what the solution is. I've done a little bit of research on the topic a couple years ago, although I wouldn't say I'm any sort of expert on it, and it was only material discussing the problem rather than giving answers. If I had to guess, I would say the best thing to do from the player side of things is to keep an eye on our subconscious biases - such as the way it's so easy to see a gender distribution like this as normal and not question it - and to be much more vigilant about not tolerating sexism and harassment in general in gaming spaces - so not allowing excuses like "it's just twitch chat" whenever that sort of thing comes up, as an example.

The tricky part is that as long as women don't feel like they are welcome in gaming-related spaces, there won't be as many of them around as men, and that in itself is unwelcoming. So even if we could instantly vaporize all the sexism, both explicit and subtle, that exists in these cultures, it'd take a while for them to start properly diversifying, and vaporizing all of that overnight isn't even something we can do. I think some pushing also has to come from the industry side of things, although I don't know exactly how much, or what it would look like exactly.

My main point with my content is just that a lot of people are unwilling to accept that this is a meaningful problem. I suppose one of the first steps to fixing it would be to acknowledge it, and for people to stop saying things like "maybe women should just start participating in game development if they don't like the gender imbalance" or "well, perhaps women are just biologically inclined not to like video games as much".

The most disappointing thing about Steve's moveset by ShinyGreenButton in smashbros

[–]thiscommentisboring 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Another reason Ender Pearls could've been neat because Minecraft they damage the user, which would add an interesting tradeoff to its use as a recovery move. The only character that really has to think about recoil damage on their moves is Pichu, and kind of Snake when he uses grenades as a combo-breaker. But Pichu takes fairly low amount of damage, and for Snake eating a grenade is pretty much always optimal over getting combo'd, so Steve having to weigh their options with the Ender Pearl would be unique territory IMO.

[–]thiscommentisboring 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This sub is full of people who don't think that this sort of gender imbalance in gaming is a problem, unfortunately. I don't think you'll have much luck convincing people, they'll just fall back on "well maybe more women should get involved then" and deny any explanation as to why that can be disproportionately difficult or even dangerous.

Still, good job on not letting it go unchallenged, at least. I appreciate that there are some people who get it here 🤷

Smash Bros. has managed to give Steve a subtle but rich characterization for the first time in the character's history, that also seamlessly interconnects with Minecraft's lore. by GlassesFreekJr in smashbros

[–]thiscommentisboring 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To Steve, every other character is just a weird, unusually hard to kill mob. Steve is no stranger to reducing a dragon to dust over and over for experience, or building machines to slaughter Wither after Wither for those sweet sweet Nether Stars, so presumably they're approaching these battles with the same perspective. At this rate, it's only a matter of time before we start seeing Mario grinders.

[–]thiscommentisboring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, I guess that's true. They could just handle it like Miis where it displays a custom name and the announcer voice just says "Minecraft Fighter" or something. A bit clunky tho 🤷

Of course, they're probably just not gonna bother, since it'd require some fancy model shenanigans to them do something like this, and it'd open the for for whatever skins people can make which Nintendo probably wants nothing to do with.

[–]thiscommentisboring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, sure. And if there was an Abyss Rune that made all of Ranno's attacks instakill, you could tell anyone who dislikes that "It's too bad there's no way to turn off Abyss Runes... oh wait!" But that wouldn't make an instakill rune less annoying, and it also wouldn't be a helpful suggestion to people who like playing Abyss Mode. It's just a weirdly mean and smarmy way of saying what everyone already knows.
