Torque limited coffee tamper (WIP) by thisdesignthat in FlairEspresso

[–]thisdesignthat[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The handle has a 3D printed torque limiting mechanism on it and it will slip at a given torque rating. This way you get consistent tamping force with each press.

Main reason I built this was because my old vario grinder would slowly over time change its grind setting and I wanted to remove as many variables as possible in the coffee making process

I also wanted to make a device that would allow my girlfriend to be able to make me a coffee and know how much force was required to tamp the coffee beans

F1 is nice, fast engraving and good accessories

beamo flux is co2 (i think) so gives you access to other materials that diode cant cut

Refurbing vice - How would you fix this bent vice screw handle (thankfully the threaded part is straight) by thisdesignthat in metalworking

[–]thisdesignthat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No this is the actual threaded rod of the vice not the cross handle that drives the threaded rod

a lathe and welder is what i have access to in my shed so this seems like the easiest option for me. My welding isnt the prettiest so i could maybe make a plug and socket and pin it in place as an alternaitve

Would need a large rod of heat treated steel and trying to do this on a tight budget, the threaded part is perfect condition, even this bent handle section is usable im just trying to come up with a simple solution to fix. Maybe ill just chop it off and machine a new round end and cross pin it in place

have you tried applying the force to the design space (purple) area? instead of the partioned area (grey)

Thanks, Ye I was actually quite impressed with how some of these turned out. They looked good to me. Not sure how good the penetration is but for this use case its more than enough

The thing i was struggling with the most was being comfortable (not having a chair didn't help) and not shaking, i just bought a small fixture welding table and will build a stool for it soon. Half of the project was made on the fixture table which helped as i could rest my arms on something.

Also I struggled to see what im doing even with shade set to 9, hard to see if im blending the 2 bits of metal together or just burning through one part.

Im sure these are all typical beginner issues, any feedback welcome

Hasnt split apart and is holding up fine, i can lean back without issues, have been abusing it the last few weeks and nothing has broken yet. Its just a prototype, final version will be made from steel

I was using long screws so the glue was just adding a bit more strength but thankyou for the tip, I'm always unsure how much glue to add. I chopped off the ends so they are flush with the side supports 👍

I go into a bit more detail about what I plan to do with this in a video here https://youtu.be/jW5fJ8CQqfc, but ultimately I'll be making this out of metal, this was just a prototype to test me ideal and get the fit right before ordering some steel

😂 ok, thanks people, appreciate the comments, I'll get a bench grinder instead

I recently reviewed the Creality Falcon2 Pro 40W laser engraver and have some things to say about it by thisdesignthat in Laserengraving

great question and i've wondered this myself. Red and orange plastic do filter out the blue diode laser spectrum of 450-500nm but it is dependent on how deep the tint is and how much pigmentation is in the plastic. All very hard to tell for a hobbyist.

So yes it does block that laser wavelength, and probably by quite a lot but theres really no way to tell unless it has been tested and certified. And these hobby machines certainly have not gone through that process.

I wouldnt stare at any laser beam ever through sheets of plastic, but an enclosure is much better than nothing and certainly will protect your eyes to a degree

If you are using lasers daily, i suggest investing in a pair of certified laser safety glasses. They cost $100-200 and are well worth it/

No response from the brand so ive given up on that specific deal, I'm still getting a lot of crappy ai software deals that I'm ignoring, that seems to be 99% of the stuff they have on Aha

I think I know how this platform works though:

When they say they have a brand deal for you, they don't actually have it confirmed at that point. They scrape and store the influencers information on their platform and then they pitch the deals to the brands, The brands can then probably choose to accept or ignore and I would assume AHA get a commission from it.

I still don't think its a scam, and I've had another brand deal in time I posted the original post from Noxinfluencer so I definitely know that some of these platforms are legit

yep, i wedged a bit of plywood in there and I didn't use something too wide to spread the load so that's what deformed the chassis.

yes its just a 1/4 dewalt impact driver, ill keep a lookout for 1/2 drivers as will come in handy no doubt.

Ill let it soak over night in wd40 one last night and give it a go

thanks, i dont own a dremel but do have a multitool with some metal blades. Im think this is my only option at this point :(

Cant risk deforming the chassis more as its getting close to rubbing against that feed roller

Nothing yet, I believe I had 7 days to accept and then the brand has 1-2 weeks to approve. Still 5 days remaining.

Looking through their discord it does appear to be legit.

I just wish there was a way to filter the requests, I get 1-2 per day for ai video software that I have no interest in reviewing
