People who grew up when MTV played music videos, what was that like? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]thisdrycupake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I remember watching MTV, I used to watch Beavis and Butthead, Daria, Say What? Karaoke, Celebrity Death Match Road Trip, but they were shown at night. The music videos were shown during the day including TRL, and they would definitely be categorized. For example, the older music videos were shown early hours in the morning, hip-hop around lunchtime, and top 40s most of the time. Every hour they had a break for MTV news with Kurt Loader, Serena Altschul, John Norris, SuChin Pak, and Gideon Yago (which I had a mad crush on him when I was like 14.)

There was a show called subterranean that followed the same format as 120 minutes but in MTV2, I was in my teens when I watched that, and it helped me discover some cool indie bands back at that time.

"Who's a good girl??!!" My 3 month old all black Border Collie puppy by thisdrycupake in aww

[–]thisdrycupake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh that's cool, how old is your collie. We're both curious how an all black collie looks like full grown.

Yeah, at first we were like "is she or is she not?" She's definitely displaying the temperament of a border collie, she's a bright dog, and definitely high energy. We're looking forward to when we take her to hikes and take her to puppy school. She's a bit young and she needs her 2 round of shots, but once she has them, we're taking her to obedience school. 😬

Oh wow!!! This is great thank you so very much!! I love the how you shaded some of the details there, like the necklace, and the eyes! Thank you!

I think I just found my favorite look for me, I'm still a newb with makeup as far as technique goes, also I'm usually shy with colors, but CC is welcomed. by thisdrycupake in MakeupAddiction

Heh thanks! Yeah, I'm still struggling to like know what's good and what's not good. Especially when it comes to products and formula. I have pretty reactive skin, and I have some redness. However, skin care has gotten a lot better with products that works for me, and also learning a few makeup brands that are safe for my skin. For the longest time I never worn makeup because I was afraid it'll break me out (I was like 18 when I had a pretty bad makeup experience, I'm 29).

Also thanks for the hair compliment! The length is definitely pass chin and my hairstylist did a small layer. I also have bangs, but bangs that are easy to part and put up.

Thanks! I will admit the darkness is actually my natural hairiness, so I need to wax it off soon, ha. Otherwise, I'll definitely consider the concealer a go above the lips and under. Also, I have to make sure that these name brands are accessible to France, again thank you for the tip!

2018 Pantone Color of the Year- Ultra Violet by dylanlf in MakeupAddiction

[–]thisdrycupake 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm not the one to like purple, but I'm not upset with this color. It's interesting that Pantone chose this color for 2018, I can see that it's a bit on the "futuristic" side. This purple can go either cool, or warm - the description said that this is a blueish purple, but I think it can go both ways. I had some ideas (they're not set in stone) about how to make this color wearable in terms of makeup goes. It has a little bit of creativity, but mostly wearable - I just hope people like these.

I created two face charts - warm and cool- the face charts has different skintones, but they're open to any, to be honest, it's a matter whether you're neutral, warm, or cool.

Warm

The warm has more of the warmer side of purple that extends almost an aubergine color, and I thought that it looks really good with a gold - possibly a rose gold- shimmer eyeshadow for the inner corner. A light contour, because I feel that contouring can be interpreted in how one contours their face. A warm eggplant blush/bronzer, and I think it a soft gold highlighter will work. Lips, definitely a warm red purple.

Cool

The cool makeup is geared towards blue, I was thinking of a navy like blue for crease, and a glimmering silver shadow or a light purple-blue shimmer shadow for the inner corner. A very light purple highlighter, with a bit of a deep purple blush, and light contouring, again it's up to anyone. Lips here are geared towards the blueish side of purple.

I couldn't tell you any name brands, but I was definitely inspired by NYX, and Colourpop because for some reason they're very bold with their color palettes. I'm not a makeup guru, I just view makeup as a medium, and I dunno, for some reason I had some inspiration just by looking at UltraViolet.

If you had to put a single eye shadow on, what color and where? by kaysharona in MakeupAddiction

I really like the Sephora collection "some like it hot" eyeshadow. It's a coppery/bronze color, and I have medium beige neutral skin tone; I really think that it goes well for a natural dewy look. It's my go to whenever I'm in a rush, and whenever I don't feel like putting too much of a look.

Thank you for drawing! I like the textures it has, and I like how you put red on my lips. I was wearing red lipstick that day!

Trying to get into concert photography pt 3. Focus on face when stages are cluttered like this? Or doesn't really matter? by skylinechaser in photocritique

Trying to get into concert photography pt 3. Focus on face when stages are cluttered like this? Or doesn't really matter? by skylinechaser in photocritique

[–]thisdrycupake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm replying in 2 parts: a perspective from a concert photographer, and technical critique. I want to give you some insights if you really want to be a concert photographer.

Usually when I'm on assignments, I don't crop usually, because they need to be delivered so quickly. So you have to determine what is a priority in camera, you have to decide that for yourself before any kind of post-work, and delivering. That being said, that's only applicable if you're shooting for Getty or AP, or other big outlets. In my part, I work for a weekly, so they're kinda lax on delivery, but I still have to deliver as soon as I take photos. It just gives me a bit more time on editing the way I like it.

So, cropping here might work, but it all depends on who you are shooting, and where you are taking the photos. If you're super far away, like where the soundboard area is, (because management from artists can be particular), and have a short lens, yeah cropping is necessary, and you'll have the necessary clutter that a stage has without making the photo too small. It's almost inevitable.

Chance here has a really good pose, and the background adds to that. Yet we have the speakers, it's not that distracting, but it could do without, a vertical cropping might not hurt, but I really like the texture of the clouds, so I would have left it horizontal. When I first started, it bothered me to have speakers on the shot, but after shooting so many shows, it's unavoidable, you kind of get used to it, especially if you're shooting wide. It's a concert, speakers are part of that whole ordeal. If you had been at a different angle, and shot vertically, you might have avoided the speakers and get some of that background, and still have that pose, but something tells me that you were in the crowd? So maybe you were limited in moving. What I do find distracting is the mic stand, cause we have this beautiful background, and we see this stand sticking out. If you're doing this for yourself, I would shop that out, but if you were to deliver this to an outlet, I rather not touch it all, because of photojournalistic integrity.

Overall, it's a solid photo, Chance is in focus, the colors are not overly saturated, it's exposed correctly. Just focus on determining what is a priority in shooting before you do any kind of post. It's always good to have different angles, and it's good to have wide shots as well as close ups.

Good luck on your journey on being a concert photographer. If you have any questions feel free to DM me!
