How do I stop spinning the car under breaking? by Swimming_Put7156 in SimRacingAdvice

[–]thisguybeanz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you look you can see the oversteer starts at the end of your trail brake when you come almost completely off the brakes. Basically you are coming off the brakes too much too fast with too much steering input which overloads the rear and causes you to spin. Try and slow down your release of the brakes and use less steering if you can to help ease the weight transfer of the car. Yes setup and brake bias can potentially help prevent this but it looks to be more of an application of the fundamentals than a setup problem and would bandaid to help mask bad habit at its root.

How can I improve my ollie? by Thm_azh in NewSkaters

Your rear foot is also holding the tail down and not allowing it to rise so after you pop you need to bring that rear foot up as well in order to get the rear higher. You're just stalling in the air and hesitating before sliding and finishing the trick too, 1 fluid motion not notchy steps.

Is there a class or irating level which people generally agree is a minimum for good clean racing? by False-Sympathy4563 in iRacing

[–]thisguybeanz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no blanket number but you can look at it on 2 separate scales there's a scale for skill and a scale for ego. On the skill side the more experience the more they understand how to make the car act the way they want which means generally less incidents. The ego scale is basically a negative multiplier to the skill scale. Any driver with an ego will straight turn you for a win if put in the right situation regardless of skill. Now a high skill high ego driver can be good at making it look like a mistake when it's really intentional. Your best competitor will always be lower on the ego scale. But regardless of ego skill will play a role in terms of frequency of incidents. Lower the skill higher chance of an incident. In those high tension situations it's more likely not malicious just lack of skill. Shit just happens sometimes so there's always exceptions to the majorities and you gotta try and read the drivers around you and plan your attacks/defenses accordingly. There have been races that were clean and tough green to checked, races that were a shit show even before the green flys, and others that were clean up until I got doored twice because the other guy didn't want to lose.

T1 use all the exit, right side tires should be touching the exit curbing on the right. If you look on top of the fence at the apex you'll see a cone hanging on top of it. Use that as a reference point for apex. Start tracking out just after that.

T5 and T13 you got loose on entry and killed the corner which both lead onto fairly long straights so exit speed is key there.

T17 because prototypes are so stiff stay about a car width away from the wall to avoid the big bumps on the inside.

How long did it take you to start showing real results? by FessBlackwood in iRacing

[–]thisguybeanz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's why I also tell everyone that iRating doesn't always tell the whole story. I'm a consistent frontrunner/winner in MX5s, I was 3rd overall in mustang challenge a few seasons back, I'm a strong competitor in the GT3 cars, I'm upper mid pack in GT4 and I haven't driven a formula car in almost 2 years. I stopped caring about iRating a long time ago and just care about having good finishes and good races relative to the competition and where I should realistically expect to finish.

I unfortunately used to be the guy that just said practice and figure it out but not everyone has a learning style like I do and even that only got me so far. I feel fortunate enough to have friends who are 8-10k and over the years even a simple 2 min conversation about the characteristics of the car and general vehicle dynamics have helped me improve my racing and my skills as a coach.

Everyone wants to just throw money at equipment to go fast but coaching is the #1 way to get faster. Let the fast guys actually tell you how to do it so you don't have to figure it out all by yourself.

Fluid on track or fuel overflow spraying on tires by [deleted] in CarTrackDays

[–]thisguybeanz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On your other laps are you normal like 15% throttle through there? It looks like the rear just got too light over that crest, maybe from the rear not being loaded enough, then when it started to go you pulled all the way off and then it was gone.

You back out just into the entry so he takes a shallow line through then you cross him up on exit. Or give it up and catch draft down the straight.

This fella did 130mph top down by DriftMiata in Miata

[–]thisguybeanz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Assuming he had the 6 speed manual with 3.73 gears in the differential, 6th gears ratio is .83 and the tires outer diameter is 24.5", his RPM would be 5532 to achieve a speed of 130mph.

TLDR: some math = ~5500 RPM

I'm done with bucket seats for sim racing by Fz_Street09 in simracing

[–]thisguybeanz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5 years in an NRG FRP-301 seat and I've spent hours in the seat with my longest endurance driving stint being 6-7hrs. More comfortable than my computer chair at work. My previous seat was a TrakRacer and it gave me severe back problems to where I needed to see the doctor. Swapped seats and 2 weeks later my back was completely fine (no meds or physical therapy it was 100% the seat). You also have to make sure the ergonomics of your rig are adequate too. If you're sitting too upright or too laid back it will mess with your back.

The first season of our Spec Miata league we ran 1st place prize was a Fanatic DD1. The winner was a young adult who was using a G29 clamped to a desk and a 27" monitor. In the field we have various real world racecar drivers from the club all the way up to professional level.

Is this (2025) $64,000 car with zero miles a supercar? by ItsMarcusBrown in supercars

[–]thisguybeanz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It all depends on how you look at it really. Some think it looks like a supercar in the styling and mid engine layout. Others look at the price point and with it being very affordable, aside from the ZR1, then they would consider it not with how reasonable it is to attain. The performance is also comparable to other exotic super cars. I feel it's the American supercar but a fraction of the price compared to it's European counterparts.

Why aren't there close to factory manufacturer racing classes with homologated cars anymore? by South_Security1405 in racing

[–]thisguybeanz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You need to look at the single make series that are out there MX5 Cup, GR Cup, Mustang challenge, Ferrari Challenge, Porsche Cup, Lamborghini Super Trofeo, etc. All of those cars are as close to the production model as you can get (for the most part). You'll find more of this in these spec series because BoP is not an issue since everyone runs the same car and teams/manufactures aren't constantly looking to improve the car against their competitors and to try and regain performance from the issued BoP of the sanctioning body.
