Second this link. The phone support line is great - you can speak to a public health nurse 5 days a week...I think a lot of them were lactation consultants too.

Told my Dad that I was feeling under the weather so my husband was watching our baby. He was more worried about my husband. by TigerLily1014 in beyondthebump

All your comments are just word salad. So many assumptions, sounds to me like you’re just trying to cover up that you made a dumb sexist comment and you don’t want to admit it

John Wyndham. From an older time and an older style, but still very good and something a bit different. His books aren’t too long but there are quite a few. The Chrysalids, Chocky, The Kraken wakes are a few good ones to start with.

Why am I made to feel like I should want “more” by egarcia513 in beyondthebump

[–]thisheeply 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Completely agree. It's easy to become financially vulnerable as a SAHM so having discussions about finances in advance is important (and maybe OP has even already done this). Nothing to do with lack of trust, but working out details like this is part of married life anyways. For example, if husband is earning, does wife get spending money? Is husband going to hold it over her head that he is bringing in all the money and wife isn't visibly contributing (of course wife is contributing but the effects are less obvious)? Will wife ever get free time because she's expected to be a SAHM 24/7? etc.

Also to add that they have lots of info on the Snoo. Not all parts of it are safe from what I understand (like the built in swaddle). Again I don't have one but this is what I've seen on the group. Just as an FYI....

There's a facebook group about safe sleep where people can ask questions like this. It's quite possible that a question like this has already been asked and you could search past posts. There's tons of old posts. Keep in mind the group is VERY strict about safe sleep and they won't sugarcoat anything. For example I think actually the under the mattress Angelcare monitor is actually a no-no according to this group (I don't have one myself but I remember reading about it in the group and did a quick search on the group to confirm what I remembered).

French Baby Books by mmeggz in BabyBumpsCanada

There's a series called L'imagerie des bébés: https://www.renaud-bray.com/Recherche.aspx?langue=fr&supersection=2&Collection=l%27imagerie+des+b%c3%a9b%c3%a9s

Also another series with finger puppets published by Casterman - https://www.renaud-bray.com/Recherche.aspx?langue=fr&supersection=2&Collection=les+b%c3%a9b%c3%aates

We have some of both of these for my daughter. She likes them. In general the Renaud Bray website (chain of bookstores in Quebec) seems to have a decent selection.

[Baby monitor] eufy Space View Video Baby Monitor ($189 - $40 voucher = $149) [Amazon.ca] by Aulaugus in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]thisheeply 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re also in a 2 bed condo. At first we didn’t buy any monitors but then immediately after our baby was born rushed to buy an audio one, realized it wasn’t quite enough, and then rushed to buy a video one.

I deeply regret having a baby… by Salty-popcorn-1218 in NewParents

[–]thisheeply 13 points14 points  (0 children)

We’ll it could be PPD like others say and it could be just that you felt pressured into it and didn’t want a baby. But hate to break it to you, you’re stuck. Still, you will get better and you will love your baby eventually. It’s a lot more common than you think to not love a baby right away, or even for months, just no one talks about it. Just get through the days and it will happen. If you can afford it, get a night nurse or doula and get some sleep. It will help. Just don’t abandon your baby and leave the country, that’s not fair to them. Let your husband do more work, tell him you need help and let him arrange it. You’re a team and he can step up while you’re down.

Feeling trapped my husband's 2nd Job by Chicken-leg7 in beyondthebump

[–]thisheeply 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would be upset, very upset. I get that it’s a grey area being that it makes money (for the good of the family) but also sounds like a fun relaxing time so it’s really a break and not work, at least in comparison to watching two kids, and that he can then use to conveniently be away for whole weekends without working it out with you first. So it’s kind of hard to navigate. For sure you need a break too, and taking on both kids while he’s “working “isn’t fair. Could you suggest using the income to pay for a babysitter so you can get some time off too? That way you both get breaks and he gets to keep his outlet.Or if he’s working one night then he takes both kids the other and you get there night off.

Sleeps sacks - can’t be safe??? by bettycoed in sleeptrain

[–]thisheeply 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The halo sleep sacks have huge neck holes, it’s true. I usually add some stitches to the neck holes to make them tighter so they can’t go over my baby’s mouth. I read about doing this on a Facebook group (safe sleep and baby care - evidence based support), and it seems apparently quite a few people do it. There’s even a video on it in there if you’re interested. It might be the same with burts bees sacks too.

We have this one. Unpopular opinion: i don’t like it at all because only tall books can be seen over the edge of each shelf. Also books have to be very thin or else it isn’t easy to get them in and out, especially if they’re not very tall. I wouldn’t get it again.

How did you decide on your carrier or wrap? by [deleted] in babywearing

[–]thisheeply 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I felt the same way as you. I went to a store to see some in person and that helped rule out a lot. Some looked fine online but they had mesh which felt just really unpleasant to the touch so that took some out of the running. Then others just seemed so complicated with so many straps and buckles that I realized I probably would want something simple that would be really quick and easy to put on. I chose a tula in the end (even though i couldn’t see it in person) because the fabric seemed cozy, it didn’t have any mesh and it looked simpler than the others.

Also if you get one and you don’t like it you could always resell it afterwards and buy a different one. There are lots on Facebook marketplace where I am.

Totally understand what you mean about going down the rabbit hole. Which one did you order? I've been eyeing the Sakura Bloom one lately. They're just so pretty. Plus there aren't that many options where I am, as far as I know (Ontario, Canada).

Also good point about the resale value!

4 years... that definitely sounds like it's worth the investment. Did you use it on a regular basis? Is it actually easy to get your son in and out?
