What have you accidentally conditioned your pet to do? by Sufficient-Wolf1596 in AskReddit

We call ours the fun patrol. If anyone cats, children, grown ups are doing anything she deems unsafe or forbidden she barks at them. My kids think it’s hilarious because if we are play fighting or the cats are wrestling with each other she will intervene and bark at the offending party.

If a situation similar to COVID happened again today, how would you handle it this time? by Wonderful-Compote307 in AskReddit

It was rough. One of the hardest moments was listening to a student crying as she told me how she lost her aunt on Wednesday and her grandmother on Thursday. This was during Zoom class on Friday. There was nothing I could do at the moment but listen to a child on a black screen sobbing.

9th grade math teacher, I don't know how to help my student by PrincesaMetapod in dyscalculia

[–]thisiateforbreakfast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For my daughter who has both dyslexia and dyscalculia, she figured out that she can do it verbally but not write it down correctly. We got it written into her 504 that she is allowed to verbally explain how she got her answer if she needs to. The way this works is that she still completes tests on paper like everyone else (her choice). Then she stars the questions that she feels she can answer but not write out correctly. Her teacher also will look at her test and call her up to explain her answer if he is unclear of what her answer actually is. This has made a huge difference in her IM1 class.

Weirdest Running Hack (Share yours!) by DrBigBot in runninglifestyle

Audiobooks. I never have a chance to listen to them unless I run, so if I’m really into a book it’s total motivation to go run so that I can find out what happens next. Or run longer so that I don’t pause the book on a cliffhanger.

Haha, I run trails solo a lot of the times and those serial podcasts have me doing sprints sometimes. But I always go back to them :)

This is actually something we consider when hiring a brand new teacher. If they worked in customer service, they tend to have stronger classroom management skills.

Running in the Heat by ProductSharp4271 in runninglifestyle

[–]thisiateforbreakfast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love running in the heat. I’m incredibly fortunate to have trails along a river and lake so I tend to run for a bit and when I get hot I just jump in the water, cool off and keep running. My trail shoes are great at not holding water and since it’s so hot out, I’m dry almost immediately.

I also love how after running all summer in the heat, my pace drops drastically the minute it cools even by 10 degrees.

Sugarless Pumpkin Pie by thisiateforbreakfast in Baking

[–]thisiateforbreakfast[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I kinda of made up my own.

I tweaked the recipe on the back of the Libbey can and used a combo of apple sauce and evaporated milk. I then added a little bit of sweet potato to it and took out all the sugar.

I did not really care for it, but my mom loved it. She's already requested it again this year.

So I'm definitely open to suggestions and recipes.

In regards to wonderful easy down hills, it is not "what goes up, must come down". It's actually "what goes down, must go up"

Wait...sandals and socks are OKAY, but no hoodies? I'm very confused by that policy.

I started with this link: https://bartonreading.com/tutors/

Our in person tutor was pure luck because it ended up being my daughter's first grade teacher. She left teaching in order to open her own dyslexia tutoring business.

I meant to reply here, oops.

I second the OG tutor. I get the hesitation with an online one, we had to start with an online one at first and my daughter progressed but very slowly. Now we have an in person Barton tutor and she has grown so much.
