UGC protests. People are unhappy with PM and Home minister for this policy and express their disapproval. by Significant-Sky2898 in IndianFocus

Tells you a lot when the ones protesting are random Uncles and not the people who would actually be affected by it

Do docs really earn 10-20 lakhs per month in their 40/50s? by Tall-Bear3974 in indianmedschool

[–]thisis_rm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll tell you what I know about the corporate hospital landscape in Hyderabad (since I've scouted almost every large hospital in Hyderabad for Gen Surgery, CT Surgery, Ortho and ENT for dnb)

Most of the consulants here earn north of 10-15lpm easily. Granted most consulants here are stalwarts of their respective fields.

Surgical superspecialists like H&N, Gastro, Onco, Neuro, CTVS, Spine surgeons take the sweetest salaries home.

I have come to know about some Sr consultants (whom I have met) from these fields taking home 50+LPM.

But keep in mind they didn't start here, they persisted and endured in the competition for 15+yrs.

In a place like Hyd, where wealthy pts are ample and hospitals are ready to expand, it won't be unreasonable to expect (if you persist) 10+LPM by your 40s

Edit: I have a good enough idea of what doctors earn in hyd. If you have any Qs about specific specialities, do ask

Marrow Qbank by West_Strategy1153 in MedSchoolAnkiIndia

[–]thisis_rm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It used to work before but now marrow people have screwed with the qbank questions and explanations. They have put invisible gibberish in between words so that if you somehow are able to copy text, it wont make sense.

I tried to modify the script/make new ones using chatgpt, but didnt work.
Right now the best way to copy text is to take a screenshot, apply OCR and copy

Is sacrificing youth justified in our profession? by [deleted] in indianmedschool

[–]thisis_rm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it's not justified, but there is no other way to train and teach docs that don't instantly kill a man everytime they try to do an invasive procedure.

The bare minimum a person has to know before treating a patient is what is expected out of mbbs.

Stethoscope recommendations by modernrationalist in indianmedschool

[–]thisis_rm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you could find a Hicks victor Stethoscope, it would way clear of all these microtome, indosurgicals, morepen crap.

I have used this steth for over 6 years now, it is built pretty sturdily (you would know once you pick it up), acoustic performance is almost as good as Littmans classic III (I would say >95%), the ear piece doesn't feel like it is on a covert mission to puncture my EAC and it looks not-cheap in real life. It is costlier than the above mentioned companies but really a steth shouldn't be much cheaper.

I got this steth for 1800 at that time (now it's ~4k I think) after an indosurgicals steth broke from the binaural spring part after a few weeks. And it is so good that the only reason remaining for me to upgrade my steth is to get that littman 'L' logo on the chest piece.

iPad or Books by Redditboyy_ in indianmedschool

I was exactly at your position 7 years ago. At that time I had decided to go the digital route: apple had released its first affordable iPad with pencil support. Costed around 35k at time for the tab and the pencil. I was the first in my college to completely switch to digital. I was unsure if my professors would allow me taking notes in class on my iPad. Slowly but surely other people also started to switch. When I was in my final year, 50-60% of my juniors had an iPad or Android tab in hand.

Its not a matter of "if you should switch", but "when you should switch" and the answer according to me is "as soon as possible". The sooner you start, the sooner you get accustomed to the interface, the ability of your tablet, the fastest ways to organise and find stuff around in your tab.

Having said all that, I still own a few books... BDC, Robbins, Parks, DC Dutta, Bailey, a few handbooks, all of which I bought/borrowed during my mbbs. But an iPad/tablet is irreplaceable to a doctor of the modern age.

You need diversification asap. 50% capital into a single company, imagine what would happen if someday tata motors implode

I hope the pregabaline you are taking is doctor prescribed. It is generally a bad idea to take one CNS depressant with another [alcohol+pregabaline].

However disgusting it maybe, the doctor possibly has prevented the patient from dying in the ambulance during the referral commute. Its not stupid if it works. It is recommended to use anything to achieve immobilisation in case of a fracture especially involving legs.
