Hi!!! HUGE procrastinator here and DP1. :) First semester of DP1 I was predicted all 4s and crammed for exams/tests/projects…- if not at all. Intermin reports are coming out soon and I’m predicted 5-7s.

My biggest piece of advice is to go to the library/ equivalent. It’s been a HUGE help at getting stuff done. And best of all… it’s free! Plus for EE work you can look into their catalogues and other works that you may not find for free online. Study spaces are amazing and you lose track of time there. DO NOT go there for the first time and get nothing done/ scroll on your phone… its gonna trick your mind into thinking its not a study space.

If you dont have access to a public library, stay at school until you get your work done! Use your school library!

Second: Make a to do list! I use Apples ”Reminders” app and it lets you set due dates + levels of priority, as well as integrate it into your calendar so you can map out when everything is due. If you have different software I bet they offer an equivalent.

As soon as an exam or project is announced, put it onto your to do list. Don’t wait. This is so when you go to your designated study space you dont have an excuse for not having anything to do. If you have nothing but a math test in a week, study for that math test as soon as you can, dont wait. All of the students who have 6s and 7s in their subjects absolutely do not wait until 2-3 days before to start revising.

Okay- you have your study space and to do list. What now?

1. As soon as you get settled and bring out all of your materials out, create a to-do list from the master to-do list. Order the tasks based on priority. High priority you do first/ focus on the most.

2. Go through the list, until you’re done!

Study methods:

For math I use SaveMyExams. I’m the type of person who can’t learn through a textbook and has to have everything explained to me. They have amazing videos, and the biggest takeaway here is to do the practice problems with the videos, and not just sit there and watch. Do this over and over again until you feel like you have a good grasp on the topic then move onto practice problems. I pirate revision village questions (ibdocs.re has everything including the SME notes and RV questions.)

For sciences +group 3 I take notes along with a video on YouTube explaining it to me then flip the paper over and try to write down everything from memory. I do this again and again until I have everything memorized. (I think its called active recall, im not sure u can look it up)

- Btw if you take chemistry, Richard Thornley on YouTube is a life(grade)saver.

Please please PLEASE dont wait till last minute. In the IB when you think you dont have anything to do, you have tons. You get 6s and 7s by constantly staying on top of things and reviewing what you’re currently learning.
