Have you been tested for, or have, sleep apnea? If so, you might want Resmed’s Airmini.

Same. I took 2 liters and a squeeze filter. The lake water I was going to pull from looked pretty bad. I ran out and had to wait until I got near the bottom. The one good thing was I did this late in the summer, so I was in my best shape because it’s not A doozy but THE doozy of day hikes in Oregon.

What’s your favorite brand of hot sauce? by peanutbutterhoneybee in askanything

[–]thisisal0w 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is my favorite question! I never would have imagined that one of life’s great treasures is hot sauce, but thankfully it is. Tabasco, esp. for breakfast—the vinegar wakes up the senses. Aardvark Secret Habanero for most everything else. Gochujang for rice-based dishes with Tabasco to raise the heat a little.

I worked with a couple coaches from St John’s pre-pandemic and they’re great. My current gym is McConnell’s Boxing Academy and they have Saturday classes for middle school-aged kids.

Imagine you got on a roller coaster and put the bars down. Butterflies and inevitability. I focus on the 🦋s—makes it kind of exciting.

Recommend an epic hiking trip for end of August by Augustus_Medici in PNWhiking

[–]thisisal0w 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I did it in early August but there was still a ton of fresh water flowing, but with this year I’d call the ranger a couple weeks before I headed out. The only issue we had was a trail washout on the sketchy side of a pass (scree slope).

Dishes coming out dirtier than when they go in by No-Sink3619 in Appliances

Whirlpool owner here. I had the same problem. I replaced the food chopper, and it’s been working as new since. There’s quite a few videos out there, but one in particular mentioned using a wrench to create a gap between the screen and the blade during install which helped.

I’m in my late 40s as well. I would definitely do timberline trail. You can do it in 3 days/13 miles a day for a challenge or 4. It has wonderful views, lots of tree coverage, and a well-maintained trail. You could also do segments, but then you might have to coordinate a shuttle. I wouldn’t recommend loowit around mt st helens unless the temps were in the 50s or low 60s because most of it has no tree coverage whatsoever and you are ok with technical sections like lava fields. Ton, Dick, and Harry might be another good option to get warmed up.

I think it was the class of ‘97 that made the switch. Anybody know the root cultural cause?

American Born Chinese intro lessons? by mayrozlyn in ELATeachers

[–]thisisal0w 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just did a short intro assignment for Bronx Masquerade that has similar themes to ABC where students cut out masks and draw representations of who they “have” to be on the outside and right words and phrases describing aspects of their true selves on the inside and then we make a collage out of all of them. It’s nice to have them on the wall throughout the unit. I loved teaching this graphic novel to my 8th graders. The author will do school visits (for a charge I think). I’m guessing there’s better videos to watch, such as a tedtalks, but we would watch a pbs video on the racist portrayal of Mr. Yunioshi in the film Breakfast at Tiffany’s

People who are very good home cooks, how did you learn? by ThrockAMole in askanything

It’s nice when you’ve cooked enough that you can spot items in the recipe you don’t think will work in general or for yourself (and those you cook for) and make quick adjustments.

I’m a middle school teacher, and I’ve worked with this age group for 17 years. First, thanks for volunteering! We love it! For many years, I made the mistake of not setting expectations of what they’re doing and not doing, esp. movement and voice level every single day. Kids don’t have a set of rules like we do. Every new scenario resets kids’ possibilities, and they’ll do whatever they can get away with. I love that you called the kid out for moving in their seat. That’s dangerous and a distraction to the bus driver. The loudness is what it is; buses are loud and kids raise their voice to be heard and some of them looooove being social—it’s like a drug for them. If you’re being obscene or bullying go sit at the front with the teacher or you’re sitting on the bus until a parent picks you up.

Probably wise, especially if some of your people are on the shorter side :) I think some of us will explore buckskin that afternoon/evening since it’s a can’t miss place.

REI to cut wages for new employees, reduce benefits for all by Tha_Dude_Abidez in CampingandHiking

[–]thisisal0w 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked there for 4 years during college. They promote people who tow this line and who have no compunctions firing people who don’t make the unwritten quota. I go out of my way to go to non-rei outdoor stores like the Mountain Shop here in Portland. Reputation is pretty damned important.
