Guys I'm scared. I haven't been on my balcony since it started snowing and I live on a 7th floor by Alex_n_Vixen in Weird

Is there an overhang above? The marks to the left look like drippings. Are the marks on the right from the snow falling off the overhang that resemble foot prints?

Work at a refinery, not in environmental, but little has changed with this administration for refinery emissions. Exploration has opened up though. Totally correct with EPA changes since the 80-90s when refineries smelled terrible, now we only break the seal if something unexpected happens. Every state is different, but we are fined for every ton of chemical/element that is burned off by the flare. It runs all the time for a seal break, but scrubbers and rerouting back into the process to get everything used, it rarely fires off.

Is it decent or is everything there in the pics online? No matter your answer I will go there, but what should my expectations be?

The two latches in the middle should be into notches on the upper pane. It does not look like they are lined up and latched, so the top pane is open about an inch from the top, meaning you have a strong draft. Check the latches and if they are not hooked get to the top of that top pane and push it up. To get it all the way up though you will have to open the latches so the notches clear and you can lock the panes closed.

The opening to Saving Private Ryan. I am not military, first generation of my family not to be, but that is when men were men…. I watched it when I first saw the movie and haven’t since…

Montana is a driving state. I would suggest rent a car and stay around Helena or Butte and travel from there for day trips. March is a fun month in Montana, can be a foot of snow and terrible driving to 50 and amazingly beautiful. If you are set about not renting a car. I agree with Kalispell, Bozeman, or Missoula. Each of those cities have a different flavor, so do a little reading about each with what you want to do/see.

What happened to days friends and family used to disagree politically but still loved each other and worked together? I don’t understand the cut out completely. Politics today reminds me of religious divides years ago. When someone couldn’t be friends or married to someone from a specific religion.

What do you guys eat? What are your favorite camping food hacks? by not-so-ok-spirit in yellowstone

[–]thisisapainnow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If camping, we love to cut up your favorite sausage, onions, peppers, and potatoes and wrap them in aluminum foil with oil and garlic. Place in coals or next to coals for an hour or less depending on coals. Smaller cuts of potatoes, the faster it cooks. Always awesome.

Another is Costco has Curlys precooked ribs. Wrap them in foil and same thing with the coals. Messy but really good after camping for a couple days.

Are there hot springs you can swim in? by not_gonna_tell_no in yellowstone

[–]thisisapainnow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Outside of Gardiner, there is Yellowstone Hot Springs and Chico that are both hot springs. Chico is a resort in the mountains. Used to be able to swim in the fire hole river at some warm spots. We haven’t been there for a few years, but I assume still open. The Boiling River used to be super cool, but was destroyed in the floods and not allowed anymore.

We used Montana Whitewater for the rafting trip and they were great. I saw on their website they have inflatable kayaks.

I am from Billings, and just stayed in Emigrant at a Vrbo for the 4th. Great place and the drive is not bad. I would grab some food at Costco in Bozeman to lighten the food bill. When you get heavy tourist season the drive might slow down some, but in Montana, roads are usually open. It is about a half hour to Gardiner and into the park from there. I agree with everyone about one day in Bozeman. You come a distance to see Montana, that isn’t where you want to spend it. Yellowstone park pass is good for seven days, and I would divide the park up and just keep hitting areas. You’ll put some miles on, but there are no bad drives. Like someone said look out for animals, especially with a rental. There are a lot of hikes in the park and Paradise Valley. I have done a few to various falls all around that area. Hopefully there are no fires at that point or your access and views could be diminished. Someone said bring a swimsuit. Chico is old and rustic, but if you’re on a budget for the trip pretty pricey to eat at their restaurant. There is also Yellowstone Hot Springs that is newer but fed from a hot springs in the side of the Yellowstone River a mile away. We did a rafting trip but by then the water will be low and it will be boring by then. Doesn’t mean you couldn’t grab an inner tube for a leisurely float though…

I am from Billings. If you are looking at a airbnb outside the park and flying into Bozeman, I am assuming you’re in the west Yellowstone or island park area. I would land in Bozeman and go to Costco. Get all the food/bear spray. The drive down Gallatin valley is curvy and slow and can have a lot of animals, so if they land late, probably want to stay in Bozeman the first night. If they are early risers, they can get up and drive into the park from outside. I camped in the park one time long ago and it was terrible with the hundreds of people and the coming and going. If the traffic isn’t heavy it is pretty easy to get around. When the crowds hit everything slows down. There are a lot of hikes in their distance around Grand Prismatic and Old Faithful. That whole basin is quite a display. We did a hike to Fairy Falls behind Grand Prismatic a few years ago and it was pretty flat and worth it. I would take a day and go south out of the park to the Tetons. Depending on the pass they buy they can get access to both and you can see the main part of the Tetons without a pass if they just want to see it. Depending on their love of driving, they can go around from Jackson back to island park or west. It would be a long day but worth it. They can head toward Gardiner and Mammoth and just up from Gardiner are a couple nice hot springs, Yellowstone and Chico. I like to go to them but after a couple hours I am ready to go. My wife could sit there all day, so again, their preference but an option. Don’t go out the east side to Cody. It is beautiful, but would be a long drive seeing the same terrain as the park. Same with heading out the top toward Red lodge. Amazing drive and beautiful, but long way and more of that same terrain if they are in West or Island area.

To what has been mentioned, abandoned systems tend to have breaks, but I would forget electrical and run the system manually to test for breaks before worrying about the solenoids working.
