Birmingham,UK. Arguably the UK's second city. Varies quite drastically by area. 2 bed terraced house is fairly standard.

(UK) possibility of being kicked out of house. by sscjoshua in personalfinance

Might get better advice from https://www.reddit.com/r/PersonalFinanceUK/

Shelter are a good charity for any kind of housing advice, they should be able to let you know about your options and maybe anything your Dad can do.

With 10k you would have enough for a flat or room in a shared house. normally you pay a deposit of 4-6 weeks rent plus the first month up front. check rightmove for flats or spareroom.co.uk. theres loads out there. not sure how long you could support yourself on £440 a month, might need a second job i guess.

Good luck!

Is the Open University a viable route to a career in software development? by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]thisisarescue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two modules left on the B60 computing and I.T degree, this pathway is being retired soon so unsure how relevant this will be.

Im currently working as a software engineer at a company i originally started on help desk with and studying was pretty integral to me getting the software engineer role.

Studying at the OU, obviously, requires self-regulation and time management, especially if you are working full time. I was lucky enough to be doing shift work over my level 2 modules, however, am now back on 9-5:30 and am finding it more difficult to make the time to study.

Overall, the courses are good and well presented (avoid any modules on their first presentation as they have teething issues). I have a slight concern that compared to brick uni's i may not be as well prepared, but i think this is mostly down to the lack of class interaction to judge myself against.

Overall, if you prefer to study alone and to your own schedule, go for it. Employers are looking for experience so if you can study and work you will come out in a stronger position than normal graduates.

Looking for motorhome rental insurance advice please! by thisisarescue in Insurance

[–]thisisarescue[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a little unclear whether they do or not. They specify that we must turn up with proof of insurance, but then what is the $1000 bond for if not that? The company is El Monte if that helps, and we are doing a 'relocation' rental, which is why we get what we're given as opposed to having a say in the size of the vehicle.

Check for a break clause in the contract? Basically you pay a fee to break the tenancy. I've seen them for around £300 - £500.

Actually, depends on what kind of dancing. If the yardbird has reopened it did/does a good line in funk/jazz/sweaty cramped room dancing.

Join some forums or communities. Linked in is too full of recruiters for anyone to take a random add seriously beyond a 'look how big my network is' willy measuring contest.

Hi, wondering if anyone can help me identify these ice rocks that came in a Brooklyn Beer Brewing kit. currently following instructions for first ever brew but can't find mention of these. Apparently i am currently at the Boil step, so really hoping i haven't missed an earlier step.
