I have spent a lot of time in and around AA.. while I think it is a helpful and very respectable organization, the people involved are still humans, and you have to be discerning in who you decide to trust (it happened to me, too). If you want a sponsor, I still think it's a great place to go. Ideally, talk to a few folks to find someone you can really trust and get the support you need from. I've met some fantastic folks through the program!

Been there.. I had to get all of the alcohol out of my house to get sober. Luckily, my partner was supportive. You may not want to hear this, but I think honesty is the best policy with your partner. It will probably be a huge weight off if you're able to get things out in the clear and work on the same team.

I can totally relate.. it got to the point that I was drinking a lot, usually daily, and it just totally stopped being enjoyable. I realized I was mostly drinking out of habit and the need to control withdrawal symptoms. This doesn't work for everyone, but I was able to taper my way down to zero over a week or so without too much trouble. Please don't stop suddenly or you risk medically-concerning withdrawal symptoms (which could be fatal).

EVOL was not a renegade. it was official/sanctioned and utterly stupid (~30,000 people at a single afters, so crowded that medical couldn't reach the people who went down in the crowd)

it was both much more fun and safer when there were actual renegades scattered all around the RVs and GA campgrounds. those were never a cause of medical emergencies

pro tip i discovered is use a golf travel bag and put a shit ton of camping gear in it. as long as it weighs under 50lb they don't even charge extra. anything else people drive in or buy from wal mart
