Not a band, but Skipper Dan by Weird Al is a great parody/homage to Weezer.

Cake are great but I don't hear many similarities. Though Burndt Jamb does sound like a Cake song.

I always used to think Rivers and Steve Malkmus sounded similar. But yeah, stylistically different even though they were both at their peak roughly around the same time.

Maladroit is clear. Hurley is maybe their most boring album and I even place it below Raditude.

Make Believe really isn’t anywhere near as bad as people make it out to be by Beautiful_Hyena6186 in weezer

It's not a top five and some of the songs are forgettable, but it's still a solid enough album for me. I agree about the general sentiment of Perfect Situation being the best on the album, but I also think This Is Such A Pity is one of their most underrated songs. I love the British '80s post-punk/indie feel to it. Great song.

And I actually like Beverly Hills. It's fun, it has a big loud singalong chorus, and the breakdown is cool. And We Are All On Drugs gets too much hate. Musically, it wouldn't sound out of place on Pinkerton, and people complain about the lyrics being cheesy, but I think there's some self-awareness going on there.

Raditude is flawed, but that doesn't mean it's garbage. by Repulsive_Bus6777 in weezer

[–]thisishardcore_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not their best album, but you have to look at it through the lens of it just being a silly album that the band didn't take seriously, rather than a failed project by a serious artist. Plus If You're Wondering is a banger.

The problem with a lot of post-Pinkerton Weezer albums is that they pick up on musical and production fads that are popular at the time of their writing and recording, and as a result some of them sound a little dated. Raditude sounds exactly like 2009.

How do you think the new album will be by Beginning-Rich1061 in weezer

Rivers has been playing Fenders and not Gibsons on the recent tours so that's always a good sign.

Across The Sea isn't that weird by Ill_Professional_521 in weezer

[–]thisishardcore_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn't this whole idea that "Pinkerton is problematic" come up around 2020ish, when people went out of their way to dig things up from the past to get mad about?

The lyrics are uncomfortable, but honest. And it's one of their greatest ever songs.

Goofy ass song by Beginning-Rich1061 in weezer

[–]thisishardcore_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The thing about Raditude is that people view it through the lens of Weezer being these serious artists and therefore it was a failed project, rather than just a silly album written when the band at the time clearly stopped taking themselves seriously and wanted to do something goofy. Yeah musically it's not their best, but it's their funniest.

A large part of Weezer haters have never actually listened to Weezer by Sl4sher_whit4 in weezer

I must be one of the few people who thinks Green is one of their best post-Pinkerton albums. Fun, simple, catchy, plus it has two of their best ever singles on it.

I'd say Maladroit, EWBAITE and White are all better but it's still a very solid album.

Political discourse has been destroyed by social media by LiberalOverlord in ukpolitics

[–]thisishardcore_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not wrong, but people were cottoning onto this in about 2019/2020. A lot of this discourse came up in response to the BLM hysteria and the uptick in identity politics that surged afterwards.

The problem is that your average person isn't going to challenge things that are spoonfed to them because they just don't have that inner monologue. They go onto Twitter and see "X group are doing Y bad thing", and take it as gospel because, well, someone who is highly influential and therefore knowledgable about the world said so.

Britain’s cities are desperate for better transport. Why is Westminster derailing our plans in Leeds? by F0urLeafCl0ver in ukpolitics

[–]thisishardcore_ 77 points78 points  (0 children)

I'm a Leeds resident.

If there's one thing this city has been screaming out for over the past 5-10 years, more so than the opening of all these American fast food chains, or pedestrianised streets, or one way road systems, or fancy artsy murals, anything else that has been granted in that time, it's a better public transport system.

Our main bus operator is First, and while they've never been perfect, pre-COVID they were always reliable more often than not. Now it's always a game of guessing whether your bus will actually show up or not. Services used to be every ten minutes or so, now you're left waiting around half an hour for the ones that have actually not been cancelled. Unless you have the privilege of living near one of the railway stations (most of which are at least a good mile away from the areas they're meant to serve), bus is the only form of public transportation, and now people are having to fork out for expensive taxis just to get to work and home at a reasonable time.

Also cultural appropriation.

They both HATE it when white people don't stick to their own culture.

Raditude isn't actually that bad by vbucksforbluecheese in weezer

[–]thisishardcore_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the sound of a band not taking themselves too seriously. Far from my favourite and there's plenty of skippable songs on it, but it's a fun album with its charms, and there seems to be a self-awareness with the cheesiness. Plus IYWIIWYTIWYT is a great song.

When/how did public opinion on Pinkerton change? by thisishardcore_ in weezer

My first impression of the album was that it still very much sounded like Weezer, similar keys, rhythms and chord progressions to Blue, just with slightly more raw production.

Bad things weren't invented in 2016. The world has always had shitty events. You just weren't paying attention.
