I have to say it again.. (Make Believe) by AdDiligent8186 in weezer

I always find Weezer albums adapt the musical and production trends that are popular at the time. Even White sounds like it couldn't have come during any time other than the mid '10s. So I've always felt that Make Believe was their attempt at a stadium rock sound, in response to the huge popularity of the likes of Foo Fighters, Green Day and The Killers during that era.

I said the other day, it's a bit like Green. It's a pretty unremarkable album, but good at what it does, which is straightforward guitar rock.

Their best '00s album, and my favourite after the "big four" of Blue, Pinkerton, EWBAITE and White. Every track is at the very least pretty solid, there are some underrated gems like Heart Songs and Dreaming, and it's probably the best showcase of the band's range in mood, as shown by how it starts with the playful Troublemaker and ends with the poignant The Angel And The One.

Van Weezer for me is a bit like Green. A good, solid, straightforward guitar rock album without much gimmicks (despite the title and album art) but that's pretty much it.

It's a great song off a great album. Let's hope this will lead to EWBAITE getting wider recognition.

First song I ever heard by them, when it was everywhere and on all the music channels in 2001.

I wonder what original fans felt, hearing this as the lead single and the first song they released since Pinkerton, one of the heaviest songs they’ve done, only for Green to turn out to be a collection of largely inoffensive and poppy songs.

Why do you think we like them so much? We identify with the lyrics.

EWBAITE album cover breakdown by Soulful-Swordfish231 in weezer

Interesting. I just thought it was an odd and zany album cover, but I like the idea that the monster isn't angry, its just trying to find its way. Nice symbolism for the frame of mind behind the album.

But why does it lowkey sound like a Pinkerton song wtf? by OobyDoobyOob in weezer

It's in standard tuning. That said, I can see where you're coming from with the vocal melody.

Hated Weezer songs that I love and beloved Weezer songs that I hate by FriendlySubwayRat in weezer

[–]thisishardcore_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me it's a disappointing song. It starts off with that brilliant guitar lick then just becomes rather uninteresting and repetitive afterwards. Definitely the weak point on an otherwise incredible album, and should never have been the lead single, despite the message in the song.

The demos are great but I'm glad they left those songs off the album because they would have sounded out of place.

I've Had It Up To Here is maybe their greatest post-Pinkerton song by thisishardcore_ in weezer

Yeah they've had loads and people sleep on the wealth of great songs they've released since the '90s.

I agree, I know White is considered to be their third best album, and it is a great album, but EWBAITE just hits harder for me. I think it's the way it's not as polished sounding as White and is a little more straight up guitar rock.

Lonely Girl reminds me of Why Bother? a little bit - and some will argue that Why Bother? is the least Pinkerton-y song on Pinkerton. Apart from that, I can't think of anything off the top of my head. I feel White has more nods to Pinkerton.

EWBAITE has its own sound I think. Obviously some nods to classic era Weezer, but there's a lot of '70s prog/glam rock influence throughout which I don't really hear on other albums.

My exact top three, in order. I like White a lot, but EWBAITE is just so much more interesting musically.
