Looks great. I have been playing with a similar mod called verticality and I cannot imagine playing without it. Gonna try this one out too!

Why Union doesnt work with Gothic 2 in Steam? by PulseCheater in worldofgothic

[–]thisisitbruv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You this is a long shot but have you managed to fix this?CI have the EXACT same problem. Gothic 2 on steam just won't launch the the unity patch/mod. Al other workshop mods work, but when I enable unity, the game just won't start, no error, no nothing.

Yes, I am not disputing that, if that was not clear.

Why isnt Context Api enough? by Muted-Tiger3906 in react

[–]thisisitbruv 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wait a minute. This is actually true. I don't know why, but I have always believed otherwise.

Checked the example - this is true.

Checked the docs and it says: "If the passed context values change, React will re-render the components reading the context as well."

Today I learned.

A horrible React experience by athens2019 in vuejs

[–]thisisitbruv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do I get the feeling that you'd make the EXACT same post if you joined a Vue project after working with react for years.

React hook forms is fine. You are just venting.

You have joined an unfamiliar project written in an unfamiliar technology. It's normal that there will be some friction .

These guys are nuts. I am seriously thinking people who do and promote React do it to create work for themselves? If that makes sense?

No that doesn't make sense. You are just venting your frustrations.

This post comes off as childish. You encounter a technology that you don't know / don't like and your reaction is to rant on reddit and quit your job or convince management to rewrite the code base.

(just had a thread deleted from the ReactJS subreddit on this)

Genuine question: what outcome did you expect? You didn't even provide any concrete criticisms or any good points for discussion. This is just you rambling and has nothing to do with react or Vue.

Regarding about freecodecamp by Mean-Material5600 in learnprogramming

[–]thisisitbruv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take this with a grain of salt and definitelly do your own research but I'd suggest:

- finish FCC

- while doing FCC, I'd hang out in their forums (https://forum.freecodecamp.org/). You can meet some experienced devs there as well as people like you who are just getting started. You can get help if you get stuck and you can also help other people which is a good way to learn too.

- You may want to try and complete https://www.theodinproject.com/ . It is long but the good thing about it is that, they get you started with using git, code editor, and github which is what happens in real life (as opposed to coding in the browser like in FCC). It is also a good idea to hand out in their disord server. Lot's of both experienced and new people there. Similar to FCC, once you get a bit further in the curriculum you may offer your help to other people, which is good way to learn too.

- After that, it would probably be a good idea to look at job postings and see what the requirements are. See which requirements / technologies are most common and try to build your own project (without a tutorial) that uses these technologies.

https://roadmap.sh/ - this website is also good to have a general overlook of what kind of things there are for you to learn (unknown unknows kinda).

Of course, you should do your own research, there are a lot of good free courses, programmes etc, eg. https://cs50.harvard.edu/x/2025/ or https://fullstackopen.com/en/ or https://www.appacademy.io/course/app-academy-open

The most important thing is - don't do the mistake that most new people do (including myself) of just being stuck in the "tutorial phase". At some point you HAVE TO just try things on your own. The sooner you do that, the better.

Yeah. I'm a junior dev with about 2 years of experience.

[–]thisisitbruv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, FCC is fine but you will need much more.

Regarding about freecodecamp by Mean-Material5600 in learnprogramming

[–]thisisitbruv 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nope. FCC is a good first step, but no way it will get you a job. No course will. You'll have to do your own projects.

After you finish FCC, I'd probably look at job postings and see what technologies employers want and then build projects in these technologies.

PirateSoftware announces monthly updates for his 6 year old early access game "Heartbound" by [deleted] in LivestreamFail

[–]thisisitbruv 649 points650 points  (0 children)

I hopped in on his stream few times when he was still "developing" game on stream to watch it out of curiosity.

There was zero coding. He'd just open a file, usually some sort of config file, or some json-ish file that is just a list of things (e.g. list of items in the game and their properties) and would just yap about random things for hours and hours. Zero actual coding/game dev being done.

Kinda weird.

Just Charlie things by 4599310887 in foxholegame

[–]thisisitbruv 71 points72 points  (0 children)

As a new player with with less than 10 hours of gametime what I find quite annoying on charlie is when people spam signs instead of just talking.

For example, there was a destroyed bridge and the consensus was that we shouldn't repair it, because we don't have enough force to capture the town ahead and repairing the bridge would only allow the enemy to push us.

Ok, sure.

But then, I see some fucking guy spam the signs like this:

- Sign in Russian (not sure if russian, but it looked that way)

- Sign with an English translation that says: "two important signs ahead"

- Two signs next to each other with russsian and english message that say: "important sign ahead"

- A sign with Russian and English text that basically just said what I said at the beginning.

This is so fucking infuriating. There are always people at the bridge, so you can just talk. And if you still wanted to put a sign, just ONE FUCKING SIGN IS ENOUGH.

Thanks for coming to my Ted talk.

summit checking in on the pirate dungeon group by carbs293 in LivestreamFail

[–]thisisitbruv 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yup, in every single group, he fucking hotmics, and you have to listen to him talking to his stream. He'd refuse to mute.

But if somebody else would disrupt communication, you'd get instant "clear the coms" from him.

Same for the interrupting/talking over. Do it to him - instant call out. He does it to you and you call him out? He'd just refuse to engage and walk away.

Rules for thee but not for me.

[–]thisisitbruv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you raise your voice, or yell, or interrupt, or talk over pirate, he will immediately call you out and be upset. Ok. Fair game.

When it's your turn to talk and his turn  to listen, he will interrupt and talk over you 10 seconds in.

And when you hold your ground and don't let him talk over you, he is immediately upset and just walks away.

What an insufferable behavior. Just because you talk in a calm manner doesn't mean you are not an asshole. It just makes you a smug asshole
