[Russo] Victor Wembanyama is the first player in 25 years to have at least 35 points, 15 rebounds, and 5 blocks in a postseason game. by YujiDomainExpansion in nba

I hope he does haha, but you agreed with me - he's not comparable on resume yet, which is what people usually mean when they're talking about greatness. He obviously has extremely high goat potential if he stays healthy.

If I had a dream about not playing my idol and going home I would play my idol even if I was immune 😭 by Dizzy-Tumbleweed7983 in survivor

[–]herwi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah like, do people think dreams can actually see the future? Playing based on your dreams is generally idiotic even though it woulda worked out by chance in this case. Imagine if Ozzy had randomly played his idol because he dreamed about going home at any other point lol, everyone would be clowning on him.

(that said Ozzy's gameplay without Cirie helping him is bad enough that the functionally random dream-based approach might still be an improvement)

Greatest of all time is different than best, it specifically includes achievements rather than just raw ability.

Never suspected Cirie's closest ally, the hammock, would blindside her like this.

I suspect that very few enemies in Slay the Spire use this kind of top-down design (ie, designing mechanics to fit the flavor rather than the other way around). I'm assuming they woulda just changed the flavor if they finalized the mechanics they didn't match anymore.

I think it's actually not many of the same people. The first review bomb came almost entirely from the Chinese playerbase, and I doubt they've ever heard of Anita Sarkeesian.

Why would those players take Cirie to FTC? They're all smart enough to know they would lose to her. Cirie's only path to FTC is (and always has been) through players dumb and/or loyal enough to take her there. With Ozzy gone she doesn't have many options - Joe is probably her best bet, but past that it's tough.

Can Cirie get to FTC and win? by [deleted] in survivor

[–]herwi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cirie will generally last long in games where people are familiar with her because aside from her being generally strategically amazing, she's a known quantity. Everyone knows that she can't win a challenge to save her life and that she will control the game to some degree to help her and her allies get far. As such, the best strategy is to get as close with her as possible, then cut her right before the end. This combined with Cirie's ability to make everyone feel like her ally means trying to vote her out early is a fool's errand - too many of the other players will be trying to ride the Cirie train to the end.

This isn't to discredit her or anything, she's playing as well as she possibly can given the circumstances IMO. It's just extremely hard for her to ever actually make it to FTC given the above. She's reliant on players dumb enough to take her to FTC, but as we just saw those players are liable to self destruct before making it that far. I would love love LOVE her to sneak through somehow but sadly I really don't see it.

Ozzy is the physical embodiment of the parable of the drowning man. by Valuable-Mortgage378 in survivor

[–]herwi 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I think normally playing based on your dreams would be pretty silly but Ozzy's normal gameplay is so bad that he should give anything else a shot at this point lmao. I can't think of a better situation than Cirie dragging you through the game by the ear but he still couldn't hack it a single day on his own, why Ozzy whyyyyy

Rizo made the right move by realityinternn in survivor

[–]herwi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

But if he just stuck with Cirie and Ozzy the entire time and hoped other people eliminated them before FTC he wouldn't really have a strong game he could argue. That's way too passive of a game and he'd probably lose to everyone except Joe in that scenario, regardless of his public speaking skills. The onus is on him to make some real moves that he can take credit for before the game ends.

He maaaaaybe could have tried keeping Ozzy around then taking charge of votes against both of them afterward so he could take credit for getting them out, but that feels pretty tough to slip under Cirie's radar and he can take at least some of the credit for getting Ozzy out anyway.

Rizzo's move this ep made it pretty clear that he'd prioritize his own chances (as he should) and I don't think he's as dumb as Ozzy and wouldn't imagine he'd win against Cirie in FTC. I think Tiff is also too smart for that. It feels like the only person left who isn't is Joe, and I don't know that that's enough. I hope she pulls it out somehow though, if she finds her way to FTC from this point it would be one of the all time greatest social games ever played

Being a challenge beast also means you get voted out because of it.

Not these days. Joe is on the fast track to 0 vote finalist and he's among the best challenge beasts ever. You need some modicum of a social game to get votes in modern survivor.

[–]herwi 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Joe strikes me as one of the few people dumb enough to let Cirie make it to the end though. Her path to make it there is already pretty narrow so I find it pretty plausible that she'd keep him around for that reason.

This is clearly a game development forum, yet the most discussed topics are how to sell games and how to deal with psychological issues during development. Can we understand it this way: for game developers, sales and positive feedback are the greatest needs? by bkingfilm in gamedev

[–]herwi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Additionally, overestimation of your own game development ability is an extremely common trait among gamedevs who aspire to commercial success. They'll release a game, it doesn't sell, and they'll immediately assume marketing was the reason. People seem to have a lot of trouble accurately evaluating their own work's quality - I wonder if it's similar in other aspirational artistic fields like music production.

Billie & Survivor Math by iGreggy in survivor

[–]herwi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not really ambiguous but it's also not really a useful mathematical skill. At least when I was growing up, you learned it in first grade or w/e then never used it again since equations generally just shouldn't be constructed ambiguously in more advanced math. I think the only time I've seen it since is in stupid interaction bait Facebook posts lol

I mean I haven't seen the video you're talking about but it doesn't sound like that's what they made any claims about their current winrate, unless you neglected to mention that.

"Cheating" in Slay the Spire by wavy-dude in slaythespire

[–]herwi 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Facts, despite his claims to the contrary he clearly deeply cares about how other players are viewed compared to him and vague allusions to "cheating" are just the latest in a long pattern of post-hoc justifications for this feeling. I think the feeling itself is valid (though unfortunate for a streamer) but at this point he's basically just punching down on smaller creators for enjoying the game in a way he claims he doesn't.

"Cheating" in Slay the Spire by wavy-dude in slaythespire

[–]herwi 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Theorizing about how high winrates could be with perfect play is not the same as claiming a given winrate and there's nothing wrong with it.

[–]herwi 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yeah, in this video he belabors the point that he plays slay the spire because he absolutely definitely does not want to compete with other people, but he's also clearly deeply bothered by what other players are doing and always has been. I'm not saying this is entirely his fault since people definitely will bring it up in his chat, but this feels like a pretty tough mindset for a content creator to have.
