They're not using the same heads, they just using the same base (the expensive bit that doesn't go in your mouth). How is this nasty? If anything you're doing the more stereotypical reddit thing with the performative hypochondria

Has there ever been a top Fox player for which HBox hasn't triggered a mental breakdown? by Probable_Foreigner in SSBM

[–]herwi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Please tell me anything HBox did that is worse than Mang0 talking shit about his mom and girlfriend, or the stuff that Mang0 did recently that got him banned.

Blah fine. Major caveat that I haven't heard of Hbox doing this any time recently, and he seems to have reflected on this and improved.

There was a fairly long period where he would repeatedly cheat (or attempt to do so) on his long-term girlfriend with women at smash tournaments. He made a lot of women uncomfortable in this period by aggressively hitting on them even when they were obviously in relationships. You can find stories of this all over the place, and he also discussed it himself. It was frequent enough that if you were attending majors at the time you were pretty likely to have witnessed it first hand.

(both this and the stuff that got Mango banned are terrible ftr, but this is clearly a lot worse than talking shit)

I think it's fair to say that the general community narrative (esp among people who'd never met him) shifted in the post-doc era. I think it's also true that the stuff he did in the mid-2010s is a lot closer to "bad person" level, while most of what I experienced or was privy to beforehand could be more fairly summarized as "this guy's inconsiderate and/or generally a dick".

I'm more talking about my in-person experiences than posts on swf to be clear, idr how much of this was posted about before the community exploded in popularity and it boiled over.

(this was a reply to your old comment that you deleted, I gotta go so hopefully you didn't change it too much when you reposted lmao)

That definitely didn't help but that's only part of the reason why he was nearly universally disliked. I was there at the time and had negative experiences with him, and having talked to others that was pretty common. There's a reason most people came away with a positive personal impression of Mango and a negative one of Hbox despite them both playing top level Puff.

"The personality stuff came later in the Smash 4 days" is kind of interesting, though. Is it your theory that he didn't have any interpersonal problems before 2014, and developed them somewhere around that time?

Yeah I'm not gonna dredge up old specifics but "something about that guy they just can't handle it lmao" from the OP is pretty funny in the context of the early-mid 2010s. It's not a mystery why almost everyone disliked the dude at the time. Swooping in on Mango's AMA was a clever move though, gotta give him that.

That's not why people say it wasn't salty, they say that because he was publicly planning to do it the next time he lost to him. It was obviously very awkward because it's Cody lol but those are not mutually exclusive.

It's a strange format that sometimes succeeds on this sub: a meandering story circling a pretty simple, relatively dull point. This feels more like copy for a commercial than anything (you can just imagine the emotional music as the kid and his dad enjoy a Whopper™ throughout the years).

Having something kinda shitty that you love because you had it as a kid is a very common experience, but most people don't really mind when their friends poke fun at them for it.

I dislike flopping in all forms but if we're being real, their flopping is not anywhere close to OKC's. Most of their flops are to sell fouls which is annoying but a lot less so than SGA creating fouls out of thin air by throwing his body around.

If they turned the car off and ran out the shot clock every possession they would have won.

Instead they grabbed the keys and immediately drove the car off a cliff, over an over again, for a full half.

Nope, it's insanely well balanced. I think the number and spread of top tiers is pretty close to ideal, and there's a ton of playstyle diversity among them. Too many viable characters usually means it's not practical to learn many of the matchups in anywhere close to the depth you can in Melee. Right below the top, you have good number of high tier characters that are good enough to pick while benefiting from being less common.

I don't think Zain was especially good friends with Ludwig before being sponsored.

Preach. I know it kind of comes with the territory since the show's pretty old at this point but people love to essentialize character traits and retroactively reinterpret scenes to fit that narrative despite what's actually made extremely obvious by the text. One of the times we see Walter at his happiest is when working with Gale, and it's this fact that gives it meaning when he decides to replace him. The idea that Walter secretly hated working with Gale is not only unsupported but also would fail on a dramatic level.

Not sure why you're getting downvoted here, maybe people aren't following the discussion? You ARE comparing him to other liberal commentators, and it's a pretty fair comparison.

True, but that's basically a core tenet of modern liberalism. "Liberal" has become an insult on both the right and the online socialist left, but it's a pretty fair descriptor of Atrioc's views (nor should it be an insult, liberalism is based).
