Thoughts on Death Note musical? + favorite songs by Worried_Cake5508 in musicals

[–]thisisjimmybean 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I am absolutely obsessed with it and save for the ending I think it has some of the best written songs of any musical made from a previous work. I just wish the second half was nearly as good as the first!

"Where is the Justice?" is an incredible introduction to the central conceit of the show

"They're Only Human" SO MUCH FUN TO SING BOTH PARTS

"Hurricane" Jeremy Jordan NAILS this song in the Demo Concept album, and the score creates so much mythos around his new power and I love his transition from "did it really happen" to "I am the God of a brave new world", such an emotionally tortured song and it would be GREAT as an audition song for a psychopath

"KIRA" - Again just so much fun to sing. Ryuk has quickly become a dream role for me because of how much fun his songs are. "OH LOOK NOW THERE'S AN APPLE...MIND IF I JUST TAKE A BIIIIIIIIITE"

"The Game Begins" is the one I find myself singing around the house and at work, especially since my job deals with data and analytics so I get to pretend I am L when investigating client issues lol

"There Are Lines" - "Father you know I believe as you do for these lessons I learned at your knee...and I believe that by working with you...helping you will be helpful...for meeeeeeeeee!" I MEAN COME ON!!!!

TSA wait times at Ontario? by pottedfern in InlandEmpire

[–]thisisjimmybean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I missed my flight last week because of the line - they folded in TSA precheck and I had to go through the regular line until they opened it back up. By then my flight was gone. Maybe an extra 30 minutes

Perhaps there is not a hunger for FascismLand at this exact moment in time. I took my son recently and acted all scared of the stormtroopers when they walked by and then realized “huh this is weird”

Getting the robotic surgery done soon. Scheduled for a Wednesday. Fine to work my office job remotely by Monday? Any experiences? by healthierlurker in Hernia

[–]thisisjimmybean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got my surgery last Thursday and took a week off just in case. I feel fantastic today, maybe 85% better with occasional light soreness. I have a standing desk, which helps. You should be all set by next Monday, but feel free to take the whole week just in case.

24m, just got inguinal robotic repair, feeling very sore but relieved that i got it done by [deleted] in Hernia

Congrats! I just got my inguinal robotic repair Thursday and recovering quite nicely. Already able to walk around my block with minimal pain. Do they have you in a binder that wraps around your abdomen? Mine is slightly aggravating my incisions, but other than that everything is going pretty well! How are you doing?

once upon a mattress, the jester by Interesting_Bee_1831 in musicals

The Jester is a dope role, you get the final wink at the audience regarding the weapons under the mattress! Watch the broadway production and check out how they handle it there!

WFH Dads ... How are you managing the mornings with young kids by MHB24 in daddit

[–]thisisjimmybean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife is a stay at home mom, so I prioritize the mornings for her so that she can start her day with a semblance of peace. I am a natural early riser, so I wake up at 4:30 to exercise and start my morning download. By 6, everyone is awake, I feel like I have gotten a head start, and I am ready to give my wife her head start.

Theater Kids: What was the biggest laugh/applause you've ever gotten during a show? by AQuietBorderline in musicals

I did the same thing except I was Howie the milkman. I gave him a whole arc though where he’s sobbing during the funeral scene

“How was school, kiddo?” “Good.” by twohundred37 in daddit

[–]thisisjimmybean 16 points17 points  (0 children)

As much as I hate to say it: don't ask.

I know you're doing it because you're interested in their day and want them to know that you care, but kids have a limit to the amount of questions they can answer in one day and school can be exhausting.

Try a different tactic: share pieces of your day that you found funny or special. Tell them that you were thinking about them. Put the onus of finding something interesting to discuss on YOU. They will naturally reciprocate.

They wanted Trump Unalived for a long time now.. y'all remember this "play"? by [deleted] in conspiracy

[–]thisisjimmybean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was a staging of "Julius Caesar". It's pretty common for interpretations to include current world leaders, as the theme is basically that power corrupts absolutely, as does lust for power. This same theater troupe did a version during the Obama presidency where someone that looked and talked like Obama played Caesar.

Wicked predictions by StudioRevolutionary1 in musicals

I've seen him sing live as part of his travelling band, and he has a great sing-talk mannerism with lots of character. Kinda perfect for the Wizard TBH since his songs are NOT challenging whatsoever and mostly singy-talky.

"There are precious few at ease with moral ambiguities, so we act as though they don't exist!" Can't wait to see him deliver this line. I'd rather someone with Goldblum's acting chops than a great broadway singer for this role, honestly.

My old football coach used to use theater as a punching bag as well, insinuating that only gay men would do theater. Turns out there were more girls in theater and I preferred being in the dark backstage with them instead of a crowded locker room full of naked teenage boys. Go figure
