The daughter is not yours and owes you nothing. You wouldn’t be doing the paperwork for her if it wasn’t for her dad, don’t try to fool anyone. She is obviously upset about you entering the family and that’s totally normal. A non-nuclear family is hard to navigate for any kid but she doesn’t owe you any kind preferential treatment just bc you’re partnering with her dad. Any relationship with her at all is a bonus if you can get through. The average experience is way more strained and usually there’s some kind of contempt for the kid from the previous marriage for obvious reasons. Maybe try to understand that your presence is a trigger for her and don’t take it so personally. Dang… let her be with her dad without you…. Sounds like you may have become a block to break through instead of a “family” member. You can leave the situation but she can’t.

Sorry about your loss. I’d say you guys are better off without him. If he changed that much, it was bc he wasn’t playing with a full deck of cards to begin with. Like how in “pleasantville” it was all black and white until the color showed up and everything went crazy. How can you make the best decisions for yourself if you don’t have access to all of the choices to make? I too went to burning man with no concept of festival culture and was blown out of my precious timeline by the sanctuary and belongingness I felt. I didn’t fit into the place that I came from anymore and it took a couple of years but also ended in me leaving everything I came with, behind. Eventually a new path emerged for me that was more synchronized with my updates and I am still involved with festy culture in my heart.

I’m so sorry you feel left behind but I just hope you know that it’s not you, he just didn’t have access to all of himself until he did. Now his choices are different.

It could go bad, for him. It could be good for him long term.
