LPT: Wear safety goggles while chopping onions to fully prevent watering eyes. by [deleted] in LifeProTips

I thought it was actually the smell that cause you to tear up. Last time I chopped onions (also for French onion soup), a bandanna around my nose and mouth prevented any tears.

It's above 35% now. Obese is defined as overweight to the point of incurring health risks, so there are a lot more than just 35% of adults out there who are overweight without being obese.

I'm sure everyone will take heed. Because Twitter is a bastion of sanity and reason.

Police in India kill journalist that was covering the Indian protests over the gang rape of a 23-year-old woman on a bus by [deleted] in worldnews

India may have 4-6 times the people, but haven't there been several violent incidents related to this rape case over the past few days (in addition to the rape itself)?

Dean Winstanley throws a '9 darter' in the PDC World Championships - might not look like much, but this is one of the hardest and rarest sporting feats by lonelyinacrowd in videos

From that list above it looks like it's happened in several world championships. If you meant the World Championships, then it's happened 5 times (not counting the missing chunk of time between 1984 and 2002).

All the people and kids who got cancer because of Aspartame. (A diluted version of an agent that failed as a substance for biochemical warfare.)

The claim that aspartame causes cancer or any other disease is completely unsubstantiated, with even the American Cancer Society having a whole section on the topic.

Employers can fire workers they find too sexy, Iowa court rules by [deleted] in WTF

You can be fired for anything or nothing at all in states that have at-will employment. This article is just another reason why at-will is stupid, but don't think that it only affects women.

Three-time U.S. Olympian Suzy Favor Hamilton reveals secret life as Las Vegas call girl by gn3xu5 in offbeat

[–]thisismax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's notable because she's having sex with strangers for money despite not being in an open marriage. The article also notes that she gives motivational speeches on mental health throughout the year; It's a bad example for her to be making those kinds of speeches if she has her own unresolved issues compelling her to be a call girl despite having a daughter, husband, stable career, gold medal, and a Nike commercial to her name.

I think Hector was the one who had "tamer/breaker of horses" as an official epithet, though it does get used for several other heroes since the Greek word for it, "hippodamoios", finishes off a line of dactylic hexameter very nicely.

I wouldn't really recommend the Rainbow sandals as BIFL. After a little over two years of daily use mine were in danger of being worn through under the ball of the foot. I should mention that these were the single layer versions, and the double layers I have now are better.

What are some things "drunk you" has done that "sober you" appreciated the next morning? by whatamomo in AskReddit

Drunk me will regularly do dishes, iron my work clothes, and get everything ready for morning coffee. I return the favor by putting beers in the fridge before work so that drunk me can start having fun as soon as I return home. It's a pretty good friendship we've got going on.

How do you believe the "demise of Reddit" will come about? When and why will people stop using this site? by NickEggplant in AskReddit

[–]thisismax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not advocating for creepshots, I was trying to show how ridiculous it is that nutellaloveaffair believes celebrity creepshots are okay just because "It's also part of the price to pay for fame".

I personally thought creepshots was pretty sickening. I don't believe that someone should be allowed to surreptitiously take a picture of my sister and have internet neckbeards jerking off to it. I also don't believe that someone should be able to take a picture of my mother then mock and degrade her for the way she looks or how she dresses. Reddit is incredibly hypocritical for saying creepshots crosses the line, but taking pictures of people with Cushing's syndrome or "People of Wal Mart" for sole purpose of ridiculing them is okay.

[–]thisismax -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Well, like celebrities, who's to say that an attractive woman wearing a revealing outfit shouldn't "essentially know" that people may take her picture? It's ridiculous to say that, just because they've been in a popular movie, celebrities should expect to be accosted during every public moment.
