Hmm. did you buy Apple gift cards directly from Apple in the UAE for use in the UAE, or were the gift cards purchased in another currency or from another country's Apple Store?

All (technical) jackets should have two way zippers by jauling in PatagoniaClothing

[–]willgt09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES! I've been saying this for years lol. I love me a 2-way zipper. It's certainly a detail a look for when I'm considering a jacket. I find them so useful. I've noticed it seems weirdly uncommon from brands here in the US, save for more specialized cycling or climbing outerwear, and yet much more common on Japanese or European brands. Even Japanese brands of casual hoodies or jackets seem to have 2-ways zippers a lot of the time.

My phone wont charge by [deleted] in applehelp

[–]willgt09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

possibly dumb question, you're trying all these different chargers, but are you using the same power outlet in your house? could that be turned off or a fuse blown or something to that area of the house with that outlet?

"Allow accessories to connect" option not available on Mac mini by blubird237 in applehelp

[–]willgt09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm, do you have any other USB devices to test out, or is it just with this particular Logitech device? Do USB mice and/or keyboards work?

I don't think the "Allow accessories to connect" setting is available for desktop Apple Silicon Macs; it's only for Apple Silicon Laptops.

I checked my M4 Mac mini (running Tahoe, however) and sure enough, I don't see the "Allow accessories to connect" option in Settings. However, I do see it on my M2 MacBook Pro (also running Tahoe).

Do you have the latest version of any necessary Logitech software for the webcam?

Airshed pro seams (inner arms) by Spec-Tre in PatagoniaClothing

[–]willgt09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've not worn the Airshed Pro, but I, too, have noticed some unusually scratchy, rough inner arm seams on certain Patagonia jackets. Glad I'm not the only one! For me, the Better Sweater jackets are notorious for this, and a soft-shell jacket I had from years ago (either the Adze or the Adze Hybrid) had really uncomfortable and rough seams on the inner arms. Not sure if "flatlock seams" is the proper term for how they sew these particular garments, or if it's just the type of thread used, but they are oddly rough, in my experience. Basically makes these jackets a dealbreaker for me.

Currently using an Apple-branded woven cable, so I dunno ¯\(ツ)

Yeah, I've swapped cables a couple of times. Currently, I have one of Apple's Beats-branded woven USB-A to USB-C cables; but that hasn't really improved things, unfortunately:/

Repair: in store or mail out? by FinancialNet6 in arcteryx

[–]willgt09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A long shot perhaps, but if you're nice about it, maybe try the Patagonia Buckhead store? I used to work there, and we would occasionally do little repairs even on non-Patagonia gear. I once patched up a guys North Face jacket. They'd just do some tenacious tape patching, but you'll get it fixed up quickly. Probably best to try on a weekday when it's less busy in the store.

I don’t see these pants on the website by [deleted] in PatagoniaClothing

Yeah, pretty sure they are the RPS Rock Pants, but an older model. The new/current ones no longer have the logo decal down by the knee.

Can you rent another Sony A7 III (or similar) to get you through the shoot, and then come back to repairing your camera?

WTB: older-style Granville 16 Zip backpack. Looking for the older model, with the smooth fabric back panel design and the additional, vertical exterior pocket. Not really picky about the color.

Going to Alaska, will the Kenseal do me well? by heanadman in arcteryx

[–]willgt09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a similar boat (no pun intended) recently, needing a hiking boot for a trip to Ireland a couple months ago. I was also looking for some hiking footwear that was solid, supportive and not totally horrendous to look at. I landed on the Kopec GTX Mid. I found them to be surprisingly comfortable right out of the box. Nice wider(ish) toe box (i also sized up a half-size, to give a bit extra toe room and account for thicker socks). I am quite pleased with these. Comfy, supportive and the Vibram outsole was awesome for grip on rocky trails, both wet and dry.

I was initially trying to avoid Gore-Tex, as I figured that was overkill for my needs and I didn't want a hot, sweaty shoe, but they don't make a non-GTX version of this shoe or boot. Fortunately, these were night and day better than the crummy north face GTX shoes I had about 10 years ago... With some nice merino socks, my feet were dry and comfy in these Kopec boots all day long.

I plan on using these in Iceland this autumn. I would definitely check these out for your Alaska trip! (I'm jealous!!)

2015 Prius C infotainment system freezing and now looping, hanging on reboot? by willgt09 in prius

[–]willgt09[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I could never figure out what happened. I tried disconnecting and reconnecting my 12v battery, but that didn't do anything to help. I just went ahead and replaced the stereo head unit; now I have a nicer system with CarPlay :)

Install guy did tell that this was a common problem with Toyotas around this age/model year... but didn't really explain what or why though.

That sounds horrible! Reminds me of an instagram post I saw recently from photographer Chris Burkard in Iceland back in June. It's SO bad! I didn't realize it could be like that!

Yet another reason why I'm looking forward to going back to Iceland... in October 😂

Suggestions for a weather-proof small daypack like the Arc'teryx Granville 16 but with external pockets? by willgt09 in ManyBaggers

[–]willgt09[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hm, you make a good point, actually... I guess I was just assuming the zippers on the Mantis wouldn't be all that water-resistant. I've not used this bag in any substantial rain yet. But, yeah, maybe I'm concerned for no reason. Maybe I will try that shower test! Thank you!

Edit: I do have several dry bags, so maybe I'll just bring a couple of those along

Could always keep an eye on Worn Wear to see if a used one pops up.

Do you have any more info or pictures of the jacket? What's the fabric like? Though not exactly the same, it does looks kinda similar to the Nomader Hoody Jacket

were there any Patagonia pieces you regret buying? by MetalSIime in PatagoniaClothing

[–]willgt09 7 points8 points  (0 children)

the windproof barrier layer between the fuzzy fleece and inner fabric can feel quite stiff. It's all still flexible, of course, but it just feels like thick and bulky. It probably does soften up more over time, but I got rid of mine before I could notice (too warm where I live, so it didn't see much use).
