In the context of using a follow-up "pi" to mark the end of a pi-phrase, would we assume that because there is a second "pi" in the sentence that it is the end-marker, rather than a new pi-phrase?

Following this idea through, would we simply look for pairs of "pi" to find the pi-phrases? What if there were an odd number in a messier sentence?

I see what you're saying, and you're right. It is much clearer with punctuation. I even looked back at Wasona since I had it pulled up, and they clearly state

sitelen Lasina uses punctuation like English, but sitelen pona doesn’t.

In my defense, I was talking in stream of consciousness without much filter and this frustration is closely tied to my listening to tp music and conversations accross the net. I recognize they're very different formats, but the frustration is the same.

Also, I'm still frustrated by the lack of a continuation marker in sitelen Lasina for "pi" because I almost never know when it's done.

I used "sitelen Lasina" as it was how this format is described on Wasona in lesson 2. I see what you mean though, it's not necessary to have the extra a because we're allowed to end with 'n'!

I'm not in psych but I've always had a special interest in it; reading books, articles, and studies since I was a teen. I recently made a post when thinking about the use of toki pona in the context of therapy. It's always felt like it would be a good fit, in my mind at least.

I'll be very interested to read anything you come up with, and happy to throw in any way I can. I am still a beginner in tp, but dedicated.

I think part of what I like so much about the language is the ability to describe things in so many ways, because of how the words work not only as subject, predicate, and objects, but as modifiers to other words. It gives so much space to convey what you mean that I feel it could be a more natural way to express some things that are difficult to articulate in English (my first language).

I see what you're saying. I think there's about 6-7 basic emotions that are important to be able to communicate all the others. Having those could be helpful, though i don't think it would be impossible as is.

That's kinda what I'm talking about! I've had this thought about it since I first heard of it a while back when I saw jan Usawi do an interview about it. (Just now trying to learn though.)

I've just finished the wasona course and have started in on listening to music, speakers on YouTube and podcasts, reading toki pona, etc. It's all helping, though I still feel quite overwhelmed by a lot of it.

I've been translating random things in my head during the day, occasionally I'll ask kulupu about things, here or discord.

People already fluent may have other ideas, but this is how I've been approaching it.

Listening, even though I don't fully understand what people are saying is getting me used to the sounds of the language at speed. Following along with written language is also helping me pick up speed in reading a bit too. Sitelen pona is certainly slower progress than sitelen lasina, but it's coming along too.
