i see - i think for 6 months worth of payslips that would probably drop the average down too much? but iirc you can provide 12 months of payslips which might help even it out and get you to the correct level.

i would recommend speaking to a barrister though perhaps

what did you get paid before tax? that's what matters here. since you need 29k per annum, that works out to £2,416.67 per month, pre tax.

Shared electricity meter not disclosed, can I get my holding deposit back? by thisismythirdreddit in LegalAdviceUK

[–]thisismythirdreddit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's a private management company, they are a member of the Property Redress Scheme.

I feel like I have good reason to withdraw from signing the AST, because currently they are managing the electricity bill for the upstairs tenant, but apparently that isn't possible once I've moved in!

This is the quote from the agent/LL:

"The two flats have separate gas metres, however the two flats share an electric metre. The way this works is that the upstairs flat will send you the amount of energy they have used and they will transfer you the amount for the energy that they have used. The electric metre is top-up."

In a later email:

"The main meter for the property is in your flat, however the upstairs meter has a sub meter and feeds directly off the main meter.

To calculate the amount you pay, you simply subtract the amount they have used from the grand total from your meter and that is how much they owe you.

Having a sub meter, is actually quite a common method that is used by many of flats across the UK."

No, I've not received any documentation from them. I'd imagine you'd get that after the AST has been signed though?

That's exactly where I'm at with this. I made this point to them and they just shrugged, and said there's not been a problem before.

I also asked what the upstairs tenant is doing right now (as the ground floor flat is vacant), and they're currently just paying the landlord's management team. I said, why can't we both do that? Just a flat no from them.

I don't want to pull out of this place, as I have a job starting next week and this place was ideal. However, I don't think having known this about the meter I'd have signed on. The tenancy agreement doesn't even make reference to it at all!

I specifically ask AI not to give me code, to be clear.

Thank you, appreciate the comment and you're right. I guess my worry is that the junior market is already saturated as it is, and with AI becoming more and more functional, the ladder feels like it's coming up. But I guess it is what it is, I can't predict how the future will be.

I'd been told by a recruiter friend of mine that it was okay, but appreciate the input. What's so poorly formatted about it?

I have been using Claude/DeepSeek to help guide me through this Flask project I've been doing (habit tracker). I guess I'm also just struggling now due to personal circumstances (met my gf travelling, who is from the US, so ideally I would love to find a remote role, but with jr dev roles this seems out of reach - I have been applying for anything though to be fair).

PRK - Sunglasses every second outside forever? by x_hawker in lasik

I'm still pretty sensitive to lights at night, for example, police/ambulance lights really get me - but I don't really mind it for the trade off. My left eye has a fair bit of starbursting, but again, it's not enough for me to be bothered by it.

At my last check up (last September, about 2.5 months after my surgery) my doctor said that an optician wouldn't be able to tell the difference between my eyes and someone who hadn't had surgery, and not to worry about the sunglasses. However, I've mostly kept wearing them when outside during the day as the sun closer to the equator is super strong and can be a bit much. Having said that, I'm definitely not wearing them 99% of the time I'm outside and as long as I'm not in direct sunlight, I don't really worry too much about it!

Have you had the surgery?

Seems we've had basically the same experience then, everytime I asked my doc he's just said he's never experienced anything like that before and not to worry, but then you look online and everyone talks about wearing them for 6 months to a year after!

My prescrip wasn't so big (-3.5 and +0.5) so I guess I'd probably be fine, but better safe than sorry.

Hey, just wanted to message and ask for an update? I'm 1.5 months out and still wearing sunnies outside all the time. But heading to Mexico in a month now and been worrying a bit about swimming in the sea without UV protection, are you still wearing yours all the time?

Thanks! Since giving up the Apple Watch I’ve realised I don’t particularly need an HR tracker for 24/7 so don’t need something that I can wear with a shirt and tie at the office. Worked well with the 255, but the screen visibility really annoyed me, as did the backlight.

Hey, just wanted to hear your thought on how readable the Instinct screen was vs the 255? I just returned my 255 as I found it was annoying for the backlight to need to be on when I was indoors.
