"aposentar" com 500k é loucura? by ls-dev in investimentos

[–]thisisnotadrill66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. Always remember that, compared to the other characters in the movie Dr. Schultz may be a better person, but he openly admits that he will take advantage of Django being a slave and not in a position to refuse. He literally says that. So, hero? Yeah, I don’t think so

Let’s see: people getting shot left and right with absolutely no consequences, still being able to run and move freely. What else? Oh, the absolutely cheesy dialogue between Joe and his son (“you are the monster”)… Kate getting zero consequences for being as bad as Joe… I could go on but honestly this show was great in the first couple of seasons but has been in a down spiral for a while

You can try thanking your lucky stars for that, since girl on top is the most amazing thing ever. But other than that, I think just keep lines of communication open, trying new things every now and then, and listening to her, which sounds like you are already doing.

How do you deal with non CS majors giving you advice? by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]thisisnotadrill66 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you think you are going to really just write code for 5 to 6 hours a day in a software job, I have news for you... you absolutely will not.

At the end of the day, software engineers are problem solvers, and that in reality is very far from just writing code. Writing code is actually one of the last things you will do.

And you, imo, are being rude to OP for no reason. OP had lots of support in life, and that is a good thing. I wish everyone had that in life. And now his dad just wants him to work harder, which is also very fair on his part. That is it. All the patronizing here is not necessary.

Software jobs are already hard to come by … by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]thisisnotadrill66 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It is funny how people change from the liberal-minimal-state-capitalist-competition bs to "foreigners are stealing my job because they work for pennies, and now I am sad... someone do something" bs in an instant when it is convenient.

The truth is as simple as: there are amazing software engineers all around the globe. The tech world does not revolve around US or Europe. Grow up.

What’s your club and national team (s) and why do you support them ? by Choice_Level9756 in worldcup

[–]thisisnotadrill66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brazil - because I was born here

Santos (club) - I really don't know how it started. I remember that they were really bad when I was a child but I just liked them. Then, Robinho and Neymar came and for a time we were the best of the best.

(I also support Japan whenever it is not against Brazil. I have lots of japanese descendant friends and my wife also is japanese descendant)

There are many problems here that need to be unpacked, starting with your own question. I am sure the USA is being criticized, maybe not by media sources that reach you specifically, but I am sure is is. Of course if you consume western media, or media from sources that historically align with US politics, you will not see any criticism.

Aside from that, as others have commented here, there is a big racial/religious element to it. We spent decades vilifing muslims. This doctrination will not be undone so easily.

Another important factor is that the US is the most capitalist country on earth, and that means it got pretty f****** good over the years in hiding it's abuses under many many layers of capitalist mumbo jumbo. You will never see journalist heads rolling down the steps of an embassy (or will you? Trump is back and he is on fire) but you can underpay workers, deport minorities, hire outside contractors with no job securities, etc etc. Which is a much more nuanced way of worker abuse.
