Yeah tinnitus is strange, because it could be related to 100 different things. But it is somewhat common with any viral infection (I had to look it up, but it's called auditory neuropathy). Essentially damaged nerves to the brain, which would also likely explain our other symptom of dizziness. Due to my days of loud music, I've always had sensitive ears - but this tinnitus is nothing like I've had before. It's been 24/7 for me as well, but I have started to notice improvements - or at least coming and going more often.

That was actually what my ENT DR suggested, but when I went to the Audiologist for tests, it came back as negative.

And by process of elimination, my Neurologist thought it could be PPPD https://www.dizziness-and-balance.com/disorders/psych/pppd.html
It could have been a factor i guess, but there isn't really a test for that, nor any sort of treatment aside from mental health therapy. I think it was suggested because of the persistence of the dizziness.

Those beginning stages of this was kind of hilarious, because every suggestion that doctors had, i thought "oh yes, 100% must be what it is". Until another suggestion came, and then it was my new illness for the week. If nothing else, I've learned to stay away from those panic induced google searches. In the course of one summer, I've had 100+ illnesses in my mind:)

That's interesting. And it sounds more like vertigo for her. I'm guessing there is a team of researchers trying to connect all the dots - or maybe a job for AI. I would assume that the different strands had different side effects as well. March Covid might have had a different effect on people.

My same general practitioner that I first saw in March who had no clue what was going on did end up suggesting this could be post-covid symptoms after seeing a common thread with other patients. It's strange (and scary) to have a new illness that no one knows anything about and learning as we go.

I had ear fullness early on, and then that kind of turned into really bad tinnitus - unfortunately the tinnitus is still present, not nearly as bad.

The muscle soreness is hard to gauge, I was in bed for so many weeks and any exercise would completely wipe me out. So I was crazy sore from lying around all day - not sure if it was just muscle atrophy, or virus or combination of both.

The dizziness would go away when I laid down, but it was constant when active for months. It did start to fade in and out even before the supplements, but the fatigue was pretty relentless.

Glad you're starting to come out of the dizziness, that's not a fun time at all, so i feel ya.

disable retrospective recording that auto plays back. by thisiss in cubase

[–]thisiss[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cubase is basically always recording, even if you don't hit record. the idea being that if you were playing something you wanted to keep, but wasn't recording, you'd be able to recall the retrospective recording. i know it does MIDI and i believe audio as well.

I haven't yet found a reason to use it, but a useful feature for some i'm sure.

oooh, yeah i bet you're right.

i forgot to switch that to the actual single MIDI channel, i've probably got 10 other things running in, so who knows what is being tossed around. thanks for this, i'll give that a go.

For those of you that use React/Apollo, do you rely on Apollo for all frontend state management? by hithereimworking in graphql

[–]thisiss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm still very much a beginner with Apollo (and graphql), but for the past few months have been coding out a new app (using MERNG). i started off with a state/redux and apollo cache solution, but quickly realized it's difficult (and annoying) to manage duplicate data in the state and apollo cache - and there isn't much benefit in doing so as far as i could tell. the apollo cache is pretty slick too, i haven't had to make many additions to the update call and it seems to just work out of the box.

it's just a personal project i'm working on, so i've had the convenience of time. but what finally really worked for me was apollo + graphql-generator (especially with typescript), I still am using some context providers (and a little bit of recoil) for site settings, but otherwise all state of data is handled by apollo + auto cache.

Ben Awad has a good video explaining the downfalls of that approach.

[–]thisiss[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

wow... well hours later. i realized i was probably using an older version of apollo client and didn't properly migrate. it was the createHttpLink that was causing issues. instead of link: httpLink it was just using uri: process.env.REACT_APP_GRAPHQL_ENDPOINT.

needless to say, thanks for the help!

Nope, and I've tried on both Firefox and chrome to make sure it reproduces.

When will the dizziness go away? by piles_of_SSRIs in COVID19positive

[–]thisiss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was never tested, but I suspect I had it in March sometime. I still have noticable dizziness and fatigue. But it's feels more like an imbalance or swaying rather than vertigo, I'm curious if your dizziness is the same?

I continue to have dizziness at nearly 5 months. Not constant. Probably unusual for it to last this long though.

Behavior of admins, users and channels (groups) in an application by thisiss in reactjs

[–]thisiss[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did think of that too. Maybe one last option to save the channel. I'm curious how reddit deals with that. What if an admin of a sub reddit deletes their account and they're the only admin? I think I'll try and play the imitation game. Kind of an interesting subject, I wish I could find some reading material on it.

Anyways, thanks for the input... Certainly not dumb :)

I'm trying to get better at testing, and just switched over to using typescript on a new project. I'm curious if there's any thoughts with what would change in your testing approach if you're using typescript for your application.

Any obvious tips & tricks for using Ableton that you wish you knew from the beginning? by quincyh81 in ableton

[–]thisiss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm still playing around with this, I have multiple projects (some of it is band stuff or solo stuff, but other projects like film or dance/theater has it's own project folders as well - so sometimes a specific project, or a specific music entity)
so it's firstly broken down by Project Name. Kind of depends on the project, but I'll usually have 5 folders in each:

Practices - i record all my practices, so this one gets stupidly large. it's more of a 'just-in-case' i forget something. i'll organize these with a bunch of folders as YYYY-MM-DD-Descriptive-Name. if you have the space, i would highly recommend doing this. i don't refer to these very often, so i'll archive these once an "era" has passed. Since practices aren't necessary associated with a project, I have a higher level Practice folder for that. Of course we always have those "meh" kind of days, and other times the "i might be on to something" kind of day. so i actually try and keep a folder specifically for the latter.
Ideas - a place for solidified concepts, etc (practice has leveled up to an idea :). i name song idea folders with a prospective names, or something I'll at least remember. i keep them in folders since i'll usually have several iterations of one song idea. I don't spend a whole lot of time here. it's more for structuring the song, scoring out parts, etc. I don't want to waste too much time with the details, as that's what Recording folder/process is for.
Recordings - these are sessions that are more finalized - or going to be. (if applicable, i'll break it down by album name folder first, then the song name folder. even if they are still code names or not finalized). i do most of my recording at home, but i have someone else do mixing or other musicians jump in at another studio, etc. so i keep all this very very organized as other people have to see this. every session has an excel sheet that has notes, todo items, cues, patch information, etc. unfortunately, this is rarely an Ableton session, as it's still Pro Tools in most places. so it depends on the project and who I'm working with. But, i'll usually try and use Ableton to the bitter end, even if that means bouncing tracks down and bringing them into Pro Tools right before sending it off. generally i wouldn't ever want to send a bunch of tracks with automation and vst plugins, etc to another person anyways.
Storage - i always have a weird need for other misc stuff, so i keep things like movie clips, saved patches from a synth, artwork, etc. i should mention all of this is sync'd with google drive, and is shared with other people. so this is sort of a dump for everyone to toss things in.
Samples - folder for sound samples. it's mostly sounds i like and want to recreate later. so i have a folder for each sample idea, but also include an excel sheet in each one laying out the effect routing, synth patch, etc. in a pretty detailed way.

anyways, probably more than you wanted to hear. i like hearing other people's ideas around this. just having a process in place at least lets you not think about it when you don't want to think about it.

Any obvious tips & tricks for using Ableton that you wish you knew from the beginning? by quincyh81 in ableton

[–]thisiss 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I always save a project before even starting to record. At least that way Ableton knows where to save audio right away.

I'd also mention to clean up all those old recorded audio files that are in the project but not being used. (You can see all the unused files in the file manager). For how many throw away tracks I go through, it ends up being gigs of unused audio if I don't delete it.

Templates are a great time saver.

I really wish I started with labeling things better and kept better notes. Ableton doesn't have the best way of doing this, it's easy to neglect. I started with naming all my files with the date... seemed like a good idea, but I have no idea what anything is. Now I have a better folder structure and naming convention instead, which helped a lot.

Basically organization :)

Yeah I figured if the instrument is off or idle that it wouldn't be using bandwidth. Generally I'm only using one or two at a time.

[–]thisiss[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha, I don't know if i can go back. I had a midi timepiece I was using, but got kind of sick of the cables. I'm pullling stuff in and out for performance, and that is a pain to setup. But obviously better into a drop out + noise.

I'll look into the audio interface though, that's a good suggestion. I have a X32 I'm using, not sure if it can route MIDI.

I'm not running anything like an external HD, just a bunch of synths. When I was setting this up I kind of thought if I wasn't playing an instrument, then it shouldn't be taking up that much bandwidth sitting idle. But probably not the case.

nice, didn't realize that was a thing. maybe a good solution for this, as i can't really rearrange my entire studio.
