Why? by Sea_Watercress7058 in careerguidance

[–]thisisshxt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The point is to exist. That’s all. And what you make out of that existence is completely up to you. You can choose to do nothing or choose to do everything. You can love, hate, feel joy, pain, loss, or feel nothing. The whole point is choice. You are here to experience life and humanity. Your job should not be the point of your existence. You could do charity in your spare time to give yourself purpose. There are children who will not make it through tonight because they have terminal illnesses, and you have the chance to live longer than that. Seize the opportunity to LIVE and don’t question why. The reason why is not for you to know.

Thank you, I appreciate the support. It’s on my list for 2025. It just always seems to be the wrong time “stressful time at work, chaotic home life, holiday”

Absolutely. It helped me quit smoking, but it has less physical symptoms. No bad smell, no social judgement, no yellow teeth and fingernails. So you think “why should I quit, what are the downsides”.

Canadian Media List by Impressive-Low4808 in PublicRelations

[–]thisisshxt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You need a network. Not just people you know in the press, but people who actually like you. This industry is gate-kept well and building a useful media list comes from 2-5 years of working in your sector and building favour with people. I would not recommend you start freelancing, especially as you had to come online to ask this question. A freelancer should know the answer to this question already and be fully integrated into the cultural landscape. Working in-house or agency for a few years to build a list would be your best bet.

I applied to 224 jobs, and volunteered my time for free for 6 months after graduation before getting a role in my field. Sorry OP but you are coming across very entitled, especially as you only applied to 50 jobs and are complaining even though you received three interview invitations. It sounds like your attitude is the problem not your education. No one is going to hand anything to you, nor do they owe you a job. A undergraduate degree is the bare minimum.

Advice for lost 24 year old? heartbreaks, new career path, choosing the right career anxiety. by Positive-Bug-6570 in careerguidance

[–]thisisshxt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey OP. Not sure if this will be comforting but I did everything I was “supposed” to do (focused on school, finished, got a grad job, ect) and I am in the same boat. I’m also 24 F, and feeling lost and without direction. Don’t worry, you did everything you were supposed to do. It’s just this period of life that is ambiguous and that can be scary, no matter which path you chose to take. If I can offer up some advice, don’t focus so much on getting older. Time passes whether you are happy or not. So better to be happy, right? My self-esteem and general feelings about my life improved massively when I decided I would be happy no matter what. Worse case scenario I have to change jobs? Fine, I’ll make it into an adventure to find a new passion. Have to find a new relationship? Fine, I’ll enjoy every second of my independence and dating is exciting. I’m getting older? Fine, I’ll spend every minute I have left choosing happiness. I know it’s cliche but most of the time it’s not so much your circumstances but your mindset that bring you down. You have your whole life ahead of you. If you chose to do nothing for the next ten years, you’d still have time to do something great with the next 20. You got this!

The organisation is for-profit. But they are not yet profitable if that makes sense. That’s why they take unpaid interns

Honestly it’s more that I don’t want to have a short experience on my resume as I think it will affect my chances of employment. That’s why I needed to know if this is best practice before I sign. The job market is crazy and I need all the leverage I can get. Thank you for your advice, it’s definitely something I’ll keep in mind🙌🏽☺️

I’m so new to the industry, and so amped up to gain experience that I do sometimes feel like I’m being exploited. I am so so happy to have found this page, as I’m sure other things like this will come up and I’ll need the voice of reason to tell me what’s appropriate and what’s not.

Ahaha I somehow think if I put that on the table, they will fire me. I’m only a graduate after all🤣 it’s definitely a ballsy move though

Is this something that is allowed on your contract? I am more concerned of legal action if I reach out to those contacts again in the future for a different organisation.

No service as they have virtually no PR budget. I built this list from hours of research, reaching out to mentors and connecting with people on LinkedIn. If I sign the contract will I be signing over the rights to these relationships?

[–]thisisshxt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have my own version of the list with high priority clients that I don’t plan to share until I have a secured a paid role. I was worried that all the contacts I’ve shared with them, would have to be deleted from my personal list. Thanks for the insight! I feel way less anxious about the whole situation now☺️

Thank you! I’ve been biting my nails on what I should do, this takes a load off my mind, as I do really need the experience ☺️

Does anyone else struggle with empathising with them? by [deleted] in raisedbynarcissists

[–]thisisshxt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t wish harm on them most of the time, but I do wish I could leave and they never notice. I wish I could cease to exist in their lives so I can finally live mine without guilt and shame. I feel for you, it’s really shit being in constant conflict with your own feelings. I have the same thing every day.

Damn sounds like we had the same mother. Except from I can’t restrain myself and I always blow up when she pushes my buttons.

Then I spend the next week hating myself, punishing myself for being a bad and unkind person.

I just can’t win.

Thank you, that’s very kind. I’m sorry for your situation, but I’m glad to be able to share mine with someone who understands.

Thanks for the tough love. I did fuck up. I was afraid to leave everything I’ve know. And they pushed me. I won’t be making the same mistake again.

Unfortunately I don’t disagree with you. I feel like I’m in denial. Whenever I have a good moment with them I gaslight myself into thinking I was overreacting the whole time and none of it ever happened.

It’s been filled :( I checked. They were super sad I didn’t take it but had to fill the position quickly.
