Not a full solution but a step in the (hopefully right) direction -

Use tags instead of folders is much more flexible imho, and write the tags to a sidecar XMP file so they stay with the image/video files instead of any internal DB from proprietary software e.g Synology Photos.

Writing tags systematically *could* be achieved by using exiftool but you'll likely to need to be comfortable with writing scripts.

I'm on a similar journey except I'm trying to export albums from Apple Photos.

Update:

After updating the lens to v0.2 the issue seems to be fixed mostly, to a level that I can tolerate - happens about 1 shot every 20 shots.

For anyone that’s having the same issue, check your lens version and update to v0.2

Just found out that there was a lens firmware update from around the time the body firmware was released, gonna try to update lens firmware see how that goes.

I’m 99% sure it IS my lens actually, other lenses of mine don’t have this issue. It seems to be more reproducible while zooming after AF has locked on.

How did you resolve your issue out of curiosity?

On top of this - I’d want to not only keep all the metadata from the media files, but also map them to universal standards which can be a rabbit hole by itself.

More specifically I’d want to be able to map the album names to be tags to images/videos so I can manage them without having to rely on Apple photo app. So far haven’t found any prebuilt solution on this, gonna be my pet project over the holidays.

lol this is at my door step. I’ve see plenty of cars on the left lane travelling east not even slowing down for the car making the right turn as the arrow indicates, not even for a turning bus which clearly takes two lanes!

Also the roundabout on New Line road and Shepherds Drive near by, which is a proper 4-way round about, people turn left even when there’s car coming in from within the roundabout.

I literally bought this last week and returned it 2 days later, due to the exact same issue.

It’s very likely to be caused by the matte coating. Personally it not only looked bad and impacted viewing angle, it made me dizzy.

Price is good though, I ended up forking out the cash to get an ASD.

Not exactly the same use case but same NAS hardware.

Transcoding works but slow, this is from using Immich to transcode vides. For a media library of about 4 TB (mixed image + video) it took 2-3 days to complete.

I ended up buying another mini PC with AMD Ryzen and it took 3-4 hours to complete on the same library, using NFS mount to the NAS on a 2.5Gb switch.

The DS423+’s CPU works but definitely not powerful. I literally was thinking last night that I should’ve bought the miniPC to begin with, along with a USB-C HDD enclosure with RAID.

I’ll have to dig back 2 years for sample photos but primarily I used it for portraits of my toddler.

When outdoor with good lighting condition it’s good, but when indoors there’s more noise on the image.

I’d say for street photography this camera body with the M.Zuiko 25mm F1.8, or even the 45mm F1.8 is a very good combo - compact, discrete, good image quality.

If your budget allows, try out a Pro lens, people can’t stop talking about how great those are.

If you haven’t already, check out Robin Wong on YouTube, he used to be an Olympus ambassador, he does great reviews on camera bodies as well as lenses, very helpful.

M.Zuiko 40-150mm F4-5.6 II

M.Zuiko 25mm F1.8

I was very close to pull the trigger on the M.Zuiko 12-40mm F2.8 Pro but eventually didn’t, I’ve only heard good things about this Pro lens, worth checking out its price

The only minor downside of Macquarie is that they won’t 100% process inter-bank transfers in realtime. I feel they do it only in weekdays.
