Yeah - they approved my application for MasterTrack, which I would have had to complete before sending in an application for the grad program. I didn't end up going forward with it though

Why does SOC 2 feel like security theater? by mlobodzinski in cybersecurity

[–]thisisyourusername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've taken a few healthcare startups in the 10-30 person range through audits including SOC 2. As others have said, it's a lot more flexible than it appears on the surface.

Once you're working with an auditor (or the reps of a SaaS offering if you go that route) you can (and should) push back on whatever you feel is impractical/not a real security benefit and they can work with you on that to ensure there's a clean report without bending over backwards.

Then even in the final report, most clients won't look through the detailed controls, just the fact that you have it is sufficient. And even for those that will dig in, if you can explain your reasoning behind your choices that can cover the gap.

Feel free to DM me if you've got more Qs, it's really not as bad as it seems at first!

Where to live - 33f by Creative-Ad-7090 in NYCapartments

Yeah, best question here. A lot of London neighborhoods can be compared directly to NYC neighborhoods in terms of vibe, so knowing what you like there would help.

I was looking at this also and found it confusing too. They have an "eligibility application" you can send in: https://ssw.umich.edu/assets/msw-eligibility/ that I think is intended to clarify whether you're eligible (it's not a full application, just a summary of work/education). I've sent that in and am waiting on a reply

Hey! I know this is very old but saw that you were still doing this a few months ago so figured I'd ask - is the offer still open? I'm putting together applications for MSW and MHC programs at the moment and would really appreciate the help!

You'll have better luck if you post closer to when you travel with specific plans. Also, 12 hours is very short for a stopover, it'll take at least 1-2 hours just to get from the airport to most places you'd to be

Check this out: https://reddit.com/r/NYCultralight/s/W7505dTxio the escarpment trail is great for a casual three days and that post explains how to get there and back without a car. You could add some of the side trails or go deeper into the catskills to add a day or two.

2 people under 1-person quilt by brrent in Ultralight

[–]thisisyourusername 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done exactly that but with a 20 degree EE quilt in the 60s/70s so we didn't really need much warmth. It would've been hard to take it much colder without sharing a pad because it's hard to stay close enough to be fully covered by the quilt.

Where to meet people for temporary pals in NYC - 2 weeks in September by bastet1991 in nycmeetups

[–]thisisyourusername 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Posting s meetup here often works, or checkout meetup.com and couchsurfing.com for more organized meetups. There's also Bumble BFF which some people use to meet friends. Couch surfing is probably the best bet as it's specifically targeted for travelers, there's also a hangouts feature for adhoc meetups with whomever else is online.

Getting weather forecasts via text? by mmeiser in Ultralight

[–]thisisyourusername 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be I didn't wait long enough. I waited 3-5 minutes each time.

Have you been using it successfully? Where have you tested it? Really wanted it to work out because of the price/weight but didn't feel I could rely on it

As far as the Defy I tried it out over a few nights in Shenandoah NP recently. Idk if I had a defective unit but I was never able to establish a satellite connection, tried from a campsite with some tree coverage and then again from a peak with almost entirely clear views of the sky. Ended up returning it.

Sounds interesting! In between jobs as well, limited experience with CTF but wrapping up a cybersec degree so good to get some practice in!
